Fate of the Galaxy, a free fan-made Star Wars space combat game built on FreeSpace 2, is out after 19 years
Fate of the Galaxy, a Star Wars total conversion for the FreeSpace Open engine that grew out of 1999's FreeSpace 2, is now available as a free download, its team says on the project site. Work on the fan project started in 2007, and it offers story and dynamic campaigns, arcade and training modes, standalone missions and LAN multiplayer, with more than 64 ships and working cockpits. It runs on Windows, Linux and Mac and is downloaded from ModDB; Destructoid notes you don't need a copy of FreeSpace 2 to play.

Bungie's head of product tells Destiny fans not to buy Marathon as a donation
Bungie head of product Josh Deane posted on X on October 30 that "in no way is the Destiny plan contingent upon Marathon," and asked players not to buy Marathon as a donation to keep Destiny going. Some players had read a recent Bungie leadership update, which said nothing could help bridge the studio's future more than Marathon becoming sustainable, as meaning Destiny 2's plans depended on Marathon's sales. Deane took the blame for the confusion ("that's on me"), according to GamesRadar+ and Forbes.

Digital Extremes said during today's Soulframe Devstream 18 that Open Preludes starts on Friday, November 6, Shacknews reports: no invitation needed, anyone on PC can sign up at soulframe.com and download the launcher. Players get the 16 Preludes updates released so far, and the next one, Preludes 17: Verse of the Veilands, with mounts and a world progression system, is due later in November.

Bandai Namco will stop selling the 'One Piece Film Red Animation Song Pack' DLC for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 at 8:00 a.m. JST on November 26, 2026 (23:00 UTC on November 25). The cutoff covers Switch 2, Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows and Steam. Anyone who already owns the pack can still re-download it after it is delisted. The publisher did not give a reason.
VRChat rules out an AI-generated label even though 95% of survey respondents asked for one
In an October 28 post on its official forum, VRChat said 95% of the 21,595 people who answered its AI survey wanted some kind of AI label, but they could not agree on how it should work, so it will not add an AI-generated tag or AI filters. The team argued that a label would be easy to dodge and could encourage creators to be harassed. Instead it plans likes and dislikes on worlds (aimed for the end of 2026 or early 2027), multi-image world galleries in the first half of 2027 and stricter rules against misleading thumbnails, while a 'Human-authored' mark is only being considered. New threads demanding a filter kept appearing on the forum through today.

Highlights listed by the official site include a life-size Albert Wesker statue making its debut, a seated Alcina Dimitrescu figure about 290 cm tall, a life-size Leon S. Kennedy and Victor Gideon's headgear shown in public for the first time. Tickets are date- and time-specific, with general adult entry at 3,300 yen on weekdays and 3,600 yen on weekends from October 31.

Anthropic confirms Claude Code now steers users away from recreating existing games
Anthropic added two sentences to Claude Code's prompt on Opus 5.5 to discourage building recreations of a specific existing game, technical staff member Addy Osmani said in a statement an Anthropic spokesperson pointed Game Developer to on October 30. Osmani said using Claude to infringe IP is against the company's usage policy, while original games, genre games and games built from a user's own designs and assets are meant to keep working. The change was first spotted by X user Chasm around October 27; the exact rule text comes from that report, not from Anthropic.

Aang gets a new Super Technique, Roku's Inferno, Nightmare Korra's moveset is rebuilt around a new Final Technique, and the update also brings Ranked Mode 2.0, Combo Trials, Story Mode+ with difficulty settings and balance changes for every fighter. Digital Foundry: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 hits 60fps in multiplayer but drops to 30fps in the campaign
Digital Foundry's tech review, as summarized by Nintendo Life, calls the Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 a job well done: multiplayer targets 60fps with occasional dips into the 50s or high 40s, the campaign is locked to 30fps and DMZ runs at 40fps on 120Hz screens. Docked, the DLSS option runs at a dynamic 900p that can fall to 450p, while handheld play is a dynamic 720p that can drop to 360p, with cut-back shadows, reflections and more pop-in than other versions. The game launched on October 23 at $69.99.

FromSoftware takes Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III online servers down on every platform
FromSoftware said on its official support account on October 30 (07:01 UTC) that it had found a problem with the game servers for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III and is stopping them on all platforms, taking the games' online features offline. The studio gave no cause and no return date, saying only that it will post a separate notice once a recovery timeline is known. The outage comes two days after scheduled Dark Souls II server maintenance; any link to a security issue is player speculation, not something FromSoftware has said.

World of Warcraft's roguelike Talebound mode is free to try on the PTR through November 1
Blizzard's Talebound demo for WoW: Midnight is running on the Player Test Realm from October 30 to November 1, and no subscription is needed to take part. It includes the Red Hollow introduction, three tales (Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood and Greywake's Expedition) on Normal, Veteran and Heroic, and all three new classes: Slayer, Inquisitor and Witch. Respawn's Cipher notes confirm Apex Legends Season 31 starts November 3 with a Crypto rework and Akimbo Wingman
EA and Respawn have now published the official designer's notes for Apex Legends: Cipher (Season 31), which launches on November 3, 2026, with full patch notes due November 2. Confirmed changes include reworks for Crypto (a battery-powered drone that can mark enemies), Lifeline and Revenant, a new Akimbo Wingman, and Strongholds, a new air drop squads must capture and hold to unlock its loot. Loba's Tactical and Ultimate cooldowns go up, and the Hemlok Burst AR returns in place of the Breach AR.

GameMill is pulling both Street Outlaws racing games from sale at the end of December as its license expires
GameMill Entertainment said on Steam on October 29 that Street Outlaws: The List and Street Outlaws 2: Winner Takes All will leave the store at the end of December 2026 because its licensing agreement for the games has ended. Anyone who already owns them keeps them in their library and can keep playing. Game Rant reports the PS5, Xbox and Switch versions are also being delisted on December 31, so after that the games will only be available on disc.

Pokémon Center and Fender reveal Pokémon Red and Green guitars for the series' 30th anniversary
The Pokémon Company announced on October 30 a Pokémon Center collaboration with Fender: a Made in Japan Pokémon Red Version Stratocaster and a Pokémon Green Version Telecaster. Both have Pokémon pixel art, a toggle that switches the sound to 8-bit audio and a neck plate marking the 30th anniversary. Preorders are coming soon to Pokémon Center, but the guitars won't release until 2027, and no price has been given yet.

They are not a new version update: you get them by visiting Nintendo's official island (Dream Address DA-6382-1459-4417) or by entering the design codes MO-BJY7-XKPP-C724 (tee) and MO-9FRX-HMW1-WXS6 (umbrella) at the Able Sisters. Scanning any Zelda amiibo still unlocks the earlier crossover furniture and can bring Mineru or Tulin to your island.

Retro action RPG Queen's Domain launches today, with a launch discount on Xbox
Queen's Domain, a retro-fantasy action RPG from Freshly Baked Games and publisher Future Friends Games, launched on October 30. Xbox Wire's launch post lists it on Xbox Series X|S at $19.99, discounted to $16.99 on the Microsoft Store at the time of writing, and the Steam page lists the same October 30 date for PC; PS5 and Switch 2 versions were also announced for today. You play alone on the monster-filled Isle of Neasied with a holy sword that doubles as a dash and gliding tool, and the developers promise 50+ melee weapons, 20+ throwing weapons and 100+ enemies and bosses.

World of Horror's free 1.2 update is out on PC, adding two Old Gods, three characters and a Scenario Mode
Developer panstasz's Junji Ito-inspired horror RPG World of Horror got its v1.2 'As Below So Above' update on October 30 as a free update for owners on Steam, GOG and itch.io (Windows and macOS). The patch notes list two new Old Gods, including Ikt-Yosis, the First Nightmare, and a four-cult 'War for Shiokawa' mode, three new playable characters, a new Scenario Mode starting with Forest of Fear / Tapes of Tragedy, and expanded Steam Workshop modding tools. The developers say the update reaches consoles in 2027.

Studio Atelico opens Early Access for its on-device AI engine for Unity, Unreal and Godot
Studio Atelico has opened Early Access to the Atelico AI Engine, a toolkit that runs language models, image generation, speech, semantic search and AI character behavior locally on players' devices instead of in the cloud. It supports Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot on Windows, macOS, iOS and Linux, and developers request access through the studio's website (no pricing announced). The company says its scheduler runs AI alongside rendering without frame drops, a claim that has not yet been tested in shipped games; its own creature battler Bobium Brawlers, now in closed beta, runs on the engine.

Capcom is putting life-size Rathalos and Lagiacrus statues at a new Fukuoka outlet mall
Capcom announced on October 29 that life-size statues of Monster Hunter's Rathalos and Lagiacrus will stand at Mitsui Outlet Park Fukuoka Marinoa in Fukuoka City, Japan, which is scheduled to open in April 2027. Capcom says the pair will come with light, sound and mist effects. It has not given exact dimensions yet.

Star Trek Online players fill Starfleet Academy and Earth Spacedock to honor Patrick Stewart
Star Trek Online players held in-game tributes to Sir Patrick Stewart on the evening of October 29, raising torches at Starfleet Academy and gathering their starships for a fireworks display at Earth Spacedock. Kotaku reports the MMO's concurrent player count rose from its usual 1,200 or so to about 2,000 that night. The official Star Trek Online account posted its own tribute, and some fans are asking Arc Games for a permanent memorial such as a visitable Chateau Picard; the developers have not responded to that request yet.

John Romero says his cancelled Xbox-funded shooter has found a new publisher
Speaking to VGC at Gamescom Asia, John Romero said Romero Games has signed with a new publisher, which he declined to name, after Microsoft pulled funding for the studio's unannounced shooter this summer. He said the studio shrank from 110 people to five and has since brought 10 sub-team leads back, and that the game is being rescoped for a team of about 15 rather than finishing the original 110-person project. No announcement date was given.

Nintendo calls off Kirby Air Riders' Halloween event over a screen-freeze bug, promises a rerun
Nintendo has cancelled the Switch 2 racer's 'Trick or Treat!' event partway through, saying in a notice from its Japanese support account on October 30 that it had confirmed a bug where the screen temporarily freezes during play. The event had been due to run from October 28 to November 4, according to Nintendo Life. Nintendo apologized and says it plans to hold an event with the same reward again, with details to come.

HoYoverse's cozy life sim Petit Planet gets a December 4 launch date
HoYoverse has set December 4, 2026 as the launch date for Petit Planet, its free-to-play life sim about building and decorating your own little planet with fuzzy Neighbors, in a new release date trailer reported by Gematsu. It comes to PC through the Epic Games Store and HoYoverse's own launcher, plus iOS and Android, and the App Store pre-order listing already shows December 4. Pre-registration is open on the official site, and a pre-launch preview stream is set for November 1 at 6:00 a.m. EST, according to Gematsu.

Death Stranding Isolations gets its first teaser trailer ahead of a 2027 Disney+ debut
Kojima Productions has posted the first teaser trailer for Death Stranding Isolations, a hand-drawn 2D animated series set in the Death Stranding world, in English and Japanese on its official YouTube channel. The studio says the show tells a completely new story separate from the games and will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027, with Hideo Kojima as executive producer, Takayuki Sano directing, E&H production animating and Ilya Kuvshinov on original character design. Gematsu reports that Tow Ubukata is writing the series; no exact premiere date has been announced.
