Spirittea is free on Xbox Free Play Days until Nov 1. What to do first, all 40 spirits with season and favourite food, seating rules and fast Moolags.

Spirittea is free to try on Xbox this weekend. Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members can play it on console and PC as part of Xbox Free Play Days, which run from Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 1. With only a few days, focus on the bathhouse: seat spirits by season, keep the boiler fed and the towels clean, and cook each guest’s favourite food. This guide covers what to do first, every spirit’s season and favourite food, and how to earn Moolags quickly.

Spirittea is a life sim with a spirit-bathhouse twist from solo developer Cheesemaster Games, published by No More Robots. It came out on November 13, 2023, and costs $19.99 on Steam. On Xbox it is 50% off during Free Play Days, at $9.99. The steps below come from the developer’s Steam posts and patch notes, plus figures from the community Spirittea Wiki on Fandom.

Quick answer: what to do first in Spirittea

  • Days 1-2: follow the tutorial. Collect tea leaves from Tifa in the tea fields east of your house, brew them, and drink the Spirittea that lets you see spirits.
  • First quest: catch the two spirits hiding in EKO’s Convenience Store. They are Fatherog and Aurum, and they have the bathhouse key.
  • Every day: wash and dry towels, feed wood into the boiler, and seat guests so their seasons get along. Happier spirits pay more Moolags.
  • Early money boost: finish the “Fix A Shrine” quest for Bruce. It unlocks Fenias, a spirit who buys your items for Moolags.
  • Before the trial ends: if you buy the game you keep your Gamerscore and achievements, and the Xbox version supports cloud saves.

Spirittea Free Play Days: dates, price and how to play

Detail Xbox Free Play Days (checked October 30, 03:40 UTC)
Who can play Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members
Platforms Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Xbox Play Anywhere)
Dates (Xbox Wire) Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 1
Store license data Trial licenses expire on November 2; the earliest listed end time is 20:00 UTC
Price to keep it $9.99 (normally $19.99), with the sale price listed until November 2, 23:59 UTC
Where to find it On console: Store, then the Subscriptions tab, then the Free Play Days collection

Plan around Xbox Wire’s dates; the later store end times are not an official extension. The Steam version has had more content updates than the console versions. The big 2.0 update arrived on Steam on December 4, 2025, and added riddles, Divine Formations, four new spirits and town improvements. The developer’s posts give no console date for it, so some 2.0 late-game systems may not be on Xbox yet. The early-game steps below apply everywhere. Free Play Days is one of several free offers this weekend; this week’s free games on Epic, PS Plus, Prime Gaming and Steam lists the rest.

Spirittea beginner guide: your first days

You play a fantasy author who moves to a mountain town in search of inspiration. According to the wiki’s walkthrough, the first in-game days are a tutorial:

  1. Arrive and settle in. Miko meets you at the bus stop. Amelia brings a rice ball the next morning and takes you to Song’s shop to get a desk.
  2. Get tea leaves from Tifa. She works in the tea fields east of your house. Brew the leaves in the teapot at home and drink the tea. After that you can see spirits, starting with Wonyan, the grumpy spirit cat who shows you to the bathhouse.
  3. Chase down the key. The bathhouse is locked and the key is in the hands of lost spirits. Wonyan says to look somewhere sweet: EKO’s Convenience Store. Catching them reveals Fatherog and Aurum, your first two guests.
  4. Next quests. The wiki lists “Haunted Bathtub” and “Vandalized Boat” as the quests that follow the tutorial. From then on, new spirits come from solving townspeople’s odd problems.

Spirit Vision (Enter on keyboard by default) shows spirits and hidden clues. It drains a bar on the right of the screen, which refills when you sleep or drink brewed tea. Tifa sells tea leaves for 20 Moolags each, so keep a stack in your bag. In a pre-launch dev update, the developers said some quests start just from things you spot with Spirit Vision while walking around, with no townsperson involved. Turn it on often.

Sleeping saves the game. There is no other save point, so sleep before you quit. If you sleep too few hours, you tire faster the next day.

How to run the bathhouse (and keep spirits happy)

A spirit’s happiness when it leaves decides how many Moolags it pays. The bathhouse chores feed into that:

  • Towels: pick up dirty towels from the basket at the entrance and wash them in the tub in the prep room (the kitchen area). Hang them on the rack, then take the dry ones back to the green bamboo mat. Towels only dry while the boiler is running.
  • Boiler: the boiler room is through the door straight ahead of the main entrance. Use the saw on the regrowing roots to make wood and keep the fire fed. Spirits want the water as hot as possible, and the dial left of the boiler door shows the temperature. If you “can’t heat” the baths, check whether the fire has run out. The Lord Bath has its own separate boiler.
  • Scrubbing: hit bathing spirits with the floor broom. Since the Phantom Friends update, each scrub (5.5 seconds) has a 45% chance to drop a spirit material, according to the patch notes. The two brooms also clean dust and cobwebs from the bathhouse.
  • Food: serve a spirit its favourite dish (see the table below) and it leaves at full happiness, according to the wiki.
  • Elixirs: each season has an elixir. Pour in the one that matches a bath’s spirits; an opposite-season elixir hurts. Purifying Elixir cleans dirty water, and Gentle Breeze Elixir works for every season.

Spirit seasons: who to seat together

Every spirit belongs to a season. A poster next to the boiler door hints at the rule, and the wiki spells it out:

Season Likes sitting next to (+1 mood) Dislikes (-1 mood)
Spring Summer, Winter Fall
Summer Spring, Fall Winter
Fall Summer, Winter Spring
Winter Fall, Spring Summer

Same-season neighbours are neutral. Some spirits also have special bathing behaviour:

  • Singers raise the mood of everyone in their bath.
  • Sludgers dirty the water after a while, which lowers everyone else’s mood until a Purifying Elixir clears it.
  • Swimmers move into empty spaces.
  • Blockers drop a block into the bath that affects their neighbours.
  • Branchers summon two small filler spirits that just take up space.

Once you dig up a spirit’s Spirit Tome, its season appears under its mood icon. (On Steam this was added in 2.0.)

This list is the Spirittea Wiki’s sortable spirit table (last edited July 5, 2026). The wiki’s gallery also shows four newer spirits (Baosage, Faelit, Mammoton and Yomsvik) that don’t have season or food details yet, plus 2.0’s riddle-loving Aramachi.

The four Lord Spirits (Vulpish, Panthermas, Ochress and Hibernus) only bathe in the Lord Bath. They pay by far the most: according to the wiki, their Moolag multiplier is 0.2 to 0.35, compared with 0.015 at most for a normal spirit. The developer warned before launch that Lord Spirits are hungry and won’t share a bath.

How to make money fast in Spirittea

Moolags are the only currency. You earn them from bathhouse guests and by selling items. Here is the fastest order, based on the wiki’s figures:

  1. Fill the baths with happy spirits. Seat seasons that like each other, keep the water hot and serve favourite foods. Recipes at Song’s shop cost 30-50 Moolags each.
  2. Unlock Fenias early. Bruce complains that a picture keeps falling off his wall. Visit his house on a weekday between 9am and 5pm to catch the spirit doing it. Then buy a repair kit at Song’s shop and fix the damaged shrine west of the school three times (3 hours each). Talk to Bruce afterwards. Fenias then buys items at his shrine while Spirit Vision is on.
  3. Sell what you find. Townspeople let you take items from their homes. The developer’s own “10 things you might not know” post jokes about grabbing slippers to decorate with. Fish, bugs and dug-up treasure sell too. Friendship gifts can be valuable: Quill’s Money Collection sells for 2,000 Moolags.
  4. Dig smart. Strangely coloured patches you see with Spirit Vision, and spots the yellow Poo-Birds mark, are good places to dig, according to the developer.
  5. Get help. At the third friendship level, a townsperson can work in the bathhouse as a wood cutter, washer, towel runner or scrubber. According to the wiki, Gale and Julian are the fastest workers (efficiency 1.0), followed by Quill (0.92), Kenzo and Yumi (0.9) and Tifa (0.88).

Bathhouse upgrade costs

Fae’s Upgrade Table opens after you unlock the large spirit Morinoba. Prices are from the wiki:

Upgrade Cost (Moolags)
Overgrown Cooking Area 1,000
Overgrown Fish Pond 1,000
Small Bath 2,500
Private Bath (left / right) 5,000 each
Overgrown Stairs 6,000
Large Bath 12,000
Right Wing Hall / Left Wing Halls 15,000 each
Lord Bath (after the Left Wing Halls) 6,000
Bridge to the hot springs 15,000 + 6 logs

Song’s shop sells a shovel, fishing rod and bug net for 400 Moolags each, extra towels at 500 for three, and backpack upgrades for 1,500 and 6,000. On a short trial, buy the tools and small upgrades first.

Fishing, bugs and friends

A fishing rod from Song’s shop opens up fishing. The Hook, Line & Spirit update (June 2024) replaced the minigame with a casting bar and a stamina fight, and the options let you switch back to the old version. The wiki counts ten fish per season. The developer says fish spawn more often when a friend fishes with you, and recommends trying odd spots such as near the hot spring. The townspeople who list fishing as a hobby are Clarence, Julian, Quill, Song, Sujin and Tobi. For insects that run from you, Song sells bug traps. Spirittea’s 2.0 update also added a Promise Ring to give the townsperson you care about most; for a deeper gifting system, see our Moonlight Peaks gift guide.

Is Spirittea worth buying after the trial?

It’s worth your time if you like Stardew-style town routines, light puzzle-solving and running a business. The bathhouse seating puzzle is the hook. It’s a single-player game with no co-op, so if you want to play with someone, see our best cozy co-op games instead. At $9.99 it is half price, and the developer said in October 2025 that 2.0 may be the game’s last content update, so what you see now is close to the finished game. FAQ

How do you clean the baths in Spirittea?

Dirty, dark-blue water (left by Sludger spirits) clears with a Purifying Elixir. Dust and cobwebs come off with the floor and ceiling brooms, which are in the passage to the prep room.

How do you get more ducks in Spirittea?

Your first duck’s nest arrives on its own, and ducks eat the algae in the baths. More nests come from a travelling merchant in the north of town near the bridge to the mountain. Each one costs more than the last, according to the wiki.

Why can’t I heat the baths in Spirittea?

The boiler needs a steady supply of wood from the roots in the boiler room. How often the roots regrow depends on your Spirituality level, and the Lord Bath needs wood carried to its own boiler.

Does Spirittea progress carry over after Free Play Days?

Xbox Wire says that if you buy the game, you keep the Gamerscore and achievements you earned during the event. The Xbox version lists cloud saves, so your save should carry over too.
