Written by Vera

Press ~ on PC and type cgf “Game.AddPerkPoints” 10 for perk points. Every Fallout 4 cheat for caps, levels, SPECIAL and carry weight, plus item IDs.

Fallout 4 console commands only work on PC. Press the ~ (tilde) key in game, type a command such as player.additem f 1000 for 1,000 bottle caps, and press Enter. The perk points command is cgf "Game.AddPerkPoints" 10 (quotation marks included), and player.setlevel 50 takes you straight to level 50. Below are the exact commands for caps, perk points, leveling, S.P.E.C.I.A.L., carry weight and power armor, plus a table of item IDs and the commands that can wreck a save. Checked October 30, 2026 UTC, against the Fallout Wiki’s console page and the latest PC patch (the August 18, 2026 update, version 1.11.240).

Quick answer

  • Open the console: ~ or `, the key left of 1 on US keyboards. UK keyboards use ‘ (the @ key), German ^ or ö, French ² or ù.
  • Bottle caps: player.additem f 1000
  • Perk points: cgf "Game.AddPerkPoints" 10
  • Level up: player.setlevel 50 (can’t go down), or player.modav experience 5000 to earn the levels normally.
  • S.P.E.C.I.A.L.: player.setav strength 10. Use setav, not modav, or the perk chart won’t unlock.
  • Carry weight: player.modav carryweight 1000
  • God mode / noclip: tgm / tcl
  • Power armor: player.placeatme 2079e 1 spawns a frame, player.additem 75fe4 10 adds 10 fusion cores.
  • Any item ID: help "gauss" 4 weap, then scroll with Page Up and Page Down.
  • Not available: on Xbox, PlayStation, or in Survival difficulty.

How to open the console in Fallout 4 (PC only)

The Fallout Wiki’s console commands page describes the console as a debugging tool in the PC version. It works in the base game, the Game of the Year Edition and the Anniversary Edition that Bethesda released on November 10, 2025.

  1. Load a save, then make a separate save before your first command.
  2. Press ~. The HUD disappears, a prompt appears in the bottom-left corner and the game pauses.
  3. Type the command and press Enter. Case doesn’t matter: tgm, TGM and tGm all work.
  4. Press ~ again to close it. The Up and Down arrows scroll through commands you’ve already typed.

If the key does nothing, find your layout in the wiki’s list (Spanish ñ, Italian or ò, Nordic ø, å or Æ, Russian ё). The wiki’s fallback is to switch the Windows keyboard layout to US and restart the game. A controller can stay plugged in; you just need a keyboard to type.

Two places the console won’t open: Xbox and PlayStation, which have no console at all, and Survival difficulty, where it’s disabled on PC too.

“player.” commands and clicking a target

Commands written as player.command act on you. Leave player. off and the command hits whatever you last clicked while the console was open. Its reference ID shows at the top of the console. Your own ID is 14, so prid 14 selects you. Leading zeros in IDs are optional: player.additem 000D83BF and player.additem d83bf both give you a pipe wrench. You can chain commands with a semicolon: player.additem f 500; player.resethealth.

Fallout 4 caps, perk points and level up commands

What you want Command What it does and the catch
Bottle caps player.additem f 1000 Caps are form ID 0000000f. To remove caps, use player.removeitem f 1000: unlike Skyrim, a negative additem amount crashes Fallout 4.
Perk points cgf "Game.AddPerkPoints" 10 Adds points to spend in the normal perk chart without changing your level. Keep the quotes.
Set your level player.setlevel 50 Jumps to that level. It can’t lower your level.
Earn levels and their perk points player.modav experience 5000 Adds XP, and each filled level bar gives a level-up with a perk point. The wiki advises against amounts over 400,000 at once; let the bar finish before entering more (or save and reload to skip the wait).
XP as a reward cgf "Game.RewardPlayerXP" 5000 Rewards that amount of XP directly.
A specific perk player.addperk <perk ID> Adds one rank only. For rank 4 of a perk, add ranks 1 to 3 as well. IDs are in the table below.
Remove a perk player.removeperk <perk ID> Doesn’t refund the point. The wiki notes it fails on V.A.N.S. and Critical Banker.
Carry weight player.modav carryweight 1000 Adds 1,000 on top of your normal limit, and Strength still raises it. forceav locks an exact number that nothing changes afterwards.
Full health player.resethealth Refills health but leaves radiation damage.
Movement speed player.setav speedmult 150 Percent of normal speed; 100 is the default.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. commands

Each stat has a console name: strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, luck. For example, player.setav charisma 10.

The difference between the two commands matters here. According to the Fallout Wiki, setav changes the stat and unlocks the matching perks in the chart. modav changes the number in your Pip-Boy but doesn’t unlock perks. Stats above 10 work, but the wiki lists diminishing returns from 11 up. showspecialmenu reopens the menu where you set your name and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points. showlooksmenu 14 1 reopens the face editor for your character.

Perk IDs for the most popular perks

Use these with player.addperk, in order, one line per rank. The IDs come from the Fallout Wiki’s all-perks batch list.

Perk Rank 1 Rank 2 Rank 3 Rank 4
Local Leader 0004d88d 001d2468 – –
Gun Nut 0004a0da 0004a0db 0004a0dc 0016578e
Science! 000264d9 000264da 000264db 0016578f
Armorer 0004b254 0004b255 0004b256 001797ea
Scrapper 00065e65 001d2483 – –
Strong Back 0004b24e 00065e5b 00065e5c 001d2489
Locksmith 000523ff 00052400 00052401 001d246a
Hacker 00052403 00052404 00052405 001d245d
Lone Wanderer 001d246b 001d246d 001d246e –

For any other perk, type help "idiot savant" 4 perk and the console lists every rank with its ID.

Fallout 4 item IDs: ammo, aid, materials and power armor

Use player.additem <ID> <amount>. IDs are from the item pages and batch lists on the Fallout Wiki. These are base-game IDs. DLC items carry a load-order prefix instead of 00, so look those up with help in your own game.

Item ID Example
Bottle caps 0000000f player.additem f 5000
Bobby pin 0000000a player.additem a 50
Stimpak 00023736 player.additem 23736 20
RadAway 00023742 player.additem 23742 10
Nuka-Cola Quantum 0004835f player.additem 4835f 5
Fusion core 00075fe4 player.additem 75fe4 10
Fusion cell 000c1897 player.additem c1897 500
Mini nuke 000e6b2e player.additem e6b2e 10
5.56 round / .308 round 0001f278 / 0001f66b player.additem 1f278 500
10mm round / shotgun shell 0001f276 / 0001f673 player.additem 1f276 500
Adhesive 001bf72e player.additem 1bf72e 200
Aluminum / Steel 0006907a / 000731a4 player.additem 731a4 1000
Screw / Circuitry 00069081 / 0006907b player.additem 69081 200
Nuclear material 00069086 player.additem 69086 100
One of every material shipment 001ec66a player.additem 1ec66a 1

Power armor commands

  • Frame: player.placeatme 2079e 1. The wiki says additem doesn’t work for a frame, so it has to be placed in the world. If you freeze when you climb in, click the frame and use setangle x 0 and setangle y 0 to level it first.
  • X-01 pieces: helm 154ac5, torso 154ac8, left arm 154ac3, right arm 154ac4, left leg 154ac6, right leg 154ac7. Add them with player.additem and attach them at a power armor station.
  • Weapons: Fat Man bd56f, Gauss rifle d1eb0, Minigun 1f669, Combat shotgun 14831c. Use player.additem for weapons, not placeatme: the wiki says weapons spawned with placeatme can’t be picked up.

How to find any other item ID

Type help "<name>" 4 <type>. Types include weap (weapons), armo (armor and clothing), alch (food, drinks and chems), ammo, misc (junk) and perk. Use quotation marks around names with spaces, for example help "combat armor" 4 armo. If you’d rather break junk down than spawn materials, our guide to scrapping junk in Fallout 4 shows which items give what.

Cheat commands list: god mode, noclip, map, quests and settlements

Command What it does Caveat
tgm God mode: no damage or radiation, unlimited ammo, AP and carry weight, unlimited workshop resources Stimpaks and RadAway don’t work while it’s on. Fusion cores still drain.
tim Immortal: you take damage but can’t die A kill animation (a Deathclaw, for example) can permanently cripple your character. The wiki says only an older save fixes that.
tcl Noclip: fly through walls and terrain Click empty space first so no target is selected. Map borders still stop you.
tmm 1 Reveals every map marker with fast travel tmm 0 removes all markers
coc <cell> Teleports you, for example coc RedRocketExt coc QASmoke opens a developer test cell with most items in the game
unlock Unlocks the clicked door, safe or terminal Not doors locked from the other side
kah / killall Kills all hostiles / everything nearby killall spares companions; essential NPCs only fall down
tai / tcai / tdetect Toggles all AI / combat AI / detection Global when nothing is selected
resurrect Revives the clicked NPC Doesn’t work on NPCs scripted to stay dead
setstage <quest> <stage> Moves a bugged quest forward The wiki recommends it over completequest. It can’t go back a stage. sqs <quest> lists the stages.
movetoqt <quest> Teleports you to the quest target sqt lists current quest targets and their IDs
caqs Completes every quest stage Very buggy, can crash, and unlocks quest achievements
setav CA_affinity 1000 With a companion selected: sets their affinity The wiki advises setav rather than modav for affinity
setav 349 <value> With a workbench selected: raises the settlement size limit (triangle budget) setav 34b <value> raises the draw-call budget
player.placeatme 20593 Spawns a settler Move them to a settlement in Workshop mode before assigning work
set timescale to 20 Game time speed (20 is the default) The wiki warns it can crash when spawned NPCs fight
tfc / tm / fov 90 90 Free camera / hides the HUD / field of view tfc 1 also freezes animations for screenshots

To unlock a settlement without its quest, the wiki’s method is to select the workbench, enter setpv OwnedByPlayer True and then setav 33c 1, and fast travel away and back.

Do Fallout 4 console commands disable achievements?

Bethesda doesn’t document it, and guides disagree. GamesRadar’s cheats guide says using cheats disables achievements. Other community sources say the console doesn’t. Here’s what the sources agree on:

What you use Achievements
Mods (a save marked [M]) Blocked, according to the Fallout Wiki’s achievements page
caqs Unlocks quest achievements by itself, so you get them without playing the quests
Other console commands Sources conflict. Don’t count on achievements unlocking in a save you’ve cheated in

If achievements matter to you, keep one clean save for them and cheat in a separate one.

How to cheat without breaking your save

  • Save first, under a new name. The console can’t undo most changes.
  • Never type a negative amount with additem. It crashes the game. Use removeitem.
  • Don’t duplicate quest NPCs or unique items with placeatme or spawndupe. The wiki warns it can cause bugs and crashes.
  • Avoid saq (start all quests). The wiki says it crashes the game and you can’t get past the opening scene.
  • Batch files save typing: put one command per line in a .txt file in the Fallout 4 install folder (for example SteamsteamappscommonFallout 4cheats.txt), then type bat cheats in the console.

Cheating in another Bethesda RPG? See our Skyrim console commands for gold, perks and item IDs. We also have Cyberpunk 2077 console commands for patch 2.5, Valheim’s 1.0 devcommands and Schedule 1 money and item commands.

FAQ

What is the Fallout 4 perk points command?

cgf "Game.AddPerkPoints" 10 adds 10 perk points without changing your level. Change the number to add more or fewer. The quotation marks around Game.AddPerkPoints are required.

Why are my Fallout 4 console commands not working?

Start with three checks. Did you put player. in front of a command meant for you? Without it, the command hits whatever you clicked last. Is your difficulty set to Survival? The console is disabled there. Is the ID from your own load order? DLC and mod items don’t start with 00. If the console won’t open at all, try the key for your keyboard layout listed above.

Are there Fallout 4 cheats on PS5, PS4 or Xbox?

No. The console is PC only. Console players can install mods through the in-game Creations menu, and some add similar options, but a modded save can’t earn achievements or trophies.

How do I get caps fast in Fallout 4 with a command?

Type player.additem f 1000 and change 1000 to the amount you want. The f is the caps form ID with the leading zeros dropped.
