The Elder Scrolls 6 will be officially titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, and Bethesda could announce that name as soon as November, according to a report by The Verge’s Tom Warren published on October 29. This is a report based on unnamed sources, not an announcement: Bethesda and Microsoft have not commented on it.

What The Verge reported about The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel
Writing in his Notepad newsletter, Warren said “sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans” told him the Xbox-owned publisher is about to confirm Sentinel as the game’s subtitle. His key claims:
- The name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
- The timing: the announcement “could come as soon as next month”, around the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which launched on November 11, 2011.
- The scope: Warren said he expects “only” a name reveal next month “and nothing more”, so a trailer or release date is not part of the report.
- Development: Bethesda has been showing Sentinel gameplay in recent months, including a live playthrough for Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in August.
Light spoiler for the reported setting: Warren also wrote that he understands Sentinel will be set in Hammerfell, a province that has appeared in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, and that it will be “the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls,” the ancient artifacts the series is named after. Bethesda has not confirmed a setting.
The report was picked up by VGC, Pure Xbox, Push Square, Polygon and others, all citing The Verge. None of them added independent confirmation.
What Bethesda and Xbox have actually said
Nothing on the official record names a subtitle, setting, platforms or release date.
| Date | Source | What it said |
|---|---|---|
| June 10, 2018 | Bethesda, E3 2018 | A teaser confirming The Elder Scrolls VI exists. No subtitle, platforms or date. |
| July 17, 2026 | Bethesda Game Studios | TES VI is the studio’s “primary development focus” with most of the team on it, built on Creation Engine 3. No date. |
| August 11, 2026 | Xbox CEO Asha Sharma | Saw a live playthrough; title hidden behind asterisks. |
| October 29, 2026 | The Verge (report) | Subtitle Sentinel, possible name reveal in November. Not confirmed. |
The original teaser is still on Bethesda’s YouTube channel:
In its July 17 studio update, Bethesda Game Studios said Fallout 5 is in preproduction and that ZeniMax Online Studios will “partner closely” with it on The Elder Scrolls franchise. On timing, it said only: “The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”
On August 11, Sharma posted: “Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning. The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.” The subtitle was masked with eight asterisks, and fans quickly noted that “Sentinel” has eight letters. Sharma never named the game, so that match was a fan theory until The Verge’s sources pointed the same way.

Is The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel confirmed?
No. As of early October 30 (UTC), Bethesda, Bethesda Game Studios and Xbox had not commented on the report, and their official X accounts had posted about other things since it went live. Until Bethesda says otherwise, Sentinel is a reported title, not a confirmed one.
Platforms are also open. The game has not been announced for any system, and Windows Central reported earlier this month that Xbox has been surveying some players about making franchises like The Elder Scrolls console exclusive. That is a survey, not a decision.
Why November makes sense for a name reveal
Skyrim turns 15 on November 11, and Bethesda says the game has sold more than 65 million copies. The original Xbox also turns 25 in November, which gives Microsoft a second reason for a big franchise moment. The month is crowded: GTA 6 launches on November 19. For Xbox, the reveal would land in a turbulent stretch that includes its 2% revenue drop in the latest quarter, a voluntary exit offer that reportedly reached Xbox staff and the search for a buyer for Bethesda’s Arkane Lyon.
What’s next
The date to watch is November 11, Skyrim’s anniversary. If Warren is right, expect a title card rather than gameplay, with no release date or platforms. We will update this story if Bethesda confirms or denies the name. Until then, Skyrim’s console commands are a good way to get more out of the last game while you wait.
