Phantom Blade Zero endings come down to one question for most players: did you do enough side content before the finale? Post-launch guides document two endings that matter, a default Normal ending and a True ending (also called the Perfect Ending), and only the True ending has its own trophy. The “eight endings” figure that circulated before the October 29 launch has not been confirmed by any post-launch guide so far.
This guide covers how many endings are actually documented, the full True ending checklist, the two points of no return and what to do if you miss it. Requirements name quests, items and optional bosses but no story events; anything about the finale itself sits behind clearly labelled spoiler boxes.
- How many endings: 2 documented by PowerPyx (Normal and True). Game Rant says there are multiple endings, “most of which are variations of the regular ending.” The pre-launch count was 8.
- True ending trophy: With Heart and Blood (“All Comes to Light”), one of 66 Steam achievements. The Normal ending has no trophy.
- Main requirement: finish every quest marked with a purple icon in the journal, plus the Acolyte masks, both Crystal Puppet Eyes, all five Long Pillars and Quick Hand Zhang’s relics.
- Points of no return: the Green Serpent House door into Mirage Estate (first warning) and The Last Chance bell in Mount Soulrend (final warning).
- Playthroughs needed: one. Difficulty does not matter, according to director Soulframe Liang via Push Square.
- Missed it? After the credits you can load back to The Last Chance bell or start New Game+, Game Rant reports.

How many endings does Phantom Blade Zero have?
The honest answer on day two is “it depends who you ask”, so here is what each source says and when. The ending count matters less than it seems: every post-launch guide agrees that the ending you want is the True ending, and that it is decided by side content rather than one final choice.
| Source | Date | What it says about endings |
|---|---|---|
| PowerPyx true ending guide | Oct 29, 2026 | 2 endings: Normal (default) and True (Perfect). Only the True ending is trophy-relevant. |
| Game Rant | Oct 29, 2026 | “Multiple endings, most of which are variations of the regular ending.” Side quests with major NPCs can change the regular ending. |
| Game Informer | Oct 28, 2026 | Calls the Perfect Ending “the only satisfying one” and lists its requirements. |
| Steam achievement list | Checked Oct 30 | One ending achievement (With Heart and Blood). All Dreams Must End is for beating the normal final boss, per PowerPyx, not a separate ending. |
| Pre-launch reports (Game Rant, Dec 2025, cited by Wikipedia) | Dec 2025 | “Eight distinct endings” depending on side quests. Not yet matched to eight documented outcomes. |
Before launch, S-GAME also played down a morality system. As Wccftech reported in April, the official account said there is no Red Dead-style Honor meter, but completing side quests in certain ways can shape the main story. That fits Game Rant’s description of the regular ending changing with side quests. Whether those variations add up to eight is the part nobody has documented yet.
Phantom Blade Zero true ending requirements
PowerPyx sums the rule up in one line: complete every quest with a purple icon in the story menu. Gold-icon quests are the main story and happen anyway. The purple ones are mostly optional, which is why many first runs miss the True ending. We already list the ten purple Tales and the order PowerPyx gives for them in our Phantom Blade Zero side quests guide, so this checklist covers the items, bosses and collectibles those Tales depend on.
| Requirement | Where | Source |
|---|---|---|
| All purple-icon Tales, ten of them before entering Mirage Estate | Across regions 1-7 (list in our side quests guide) | PowerPyx |
| Secrets at the Heart of the Lake | Starts when you pick up one of Firefly’s Memory Flowers in Village of Lu; TheGamer says all six unlock it | PowerPyx, TheGamer |
| Four Acolyte masks (fire, lightning, poison, ice) | Scarecrows in Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Meigu Lake and Crimson Manor | Game Informer, TheGamer |
| Repaired Illusory Pipa | Three parts, repaired by Myst at the Pangzhen tavern; clears the mist to Mountain of Imprisonment | TheGamer, Game Rant |
| Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] and [Yang] | Sources differ, see the table below | Game Informer, TheGamer |
| Meigu Lake mirror realm boss, then insert both eyes in the statue | Sail the Sha-Chi boat to the icy west side of Meigu Lake; needs all four masks | Game Informer, TheGamer, Game Rant |
| All five Long Pillars (Bloodline Awakening) | Can be finished after entering Mirage Estate | PowerPyx, Game Informer |
| All of Quick Hand Zhang’s relics | Five requests, three relics each, in green-glowing chests | Game Informer, Game Rant |
| Optional bosses Zhu Yuan and Bi Feng | Sha-Chi Tower (Meigu Lake) and Mountain of Imprisonment | PowerPyx trophy guide |
Game Informer warns that the Acolyte fights are “extremely challenging” and that each Acolyte attacks with one element, so equip matching resistance accessories. For where every optional boss sits, see our Phantom Blade Zero bosses list.

Where the guides disagree
Launch-day guides were written in a hurry, and a few details don’t match yet. Neither version is confirmed by S-GAME, so collect everything you can before Mirage Estate whichever source turns out to be right.
| Detail | Game Informer | TheGamer | Game Rant / PowerPyx |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Crystal Puppet Eye | [Yin] for completing Mountain of Imprisonment | Chapter boss in Village of Lu | Not listed |
| Second Crystal Puppet Eye | [Yang] from the hidden boss in Crimson Manor | Crimson Manor, after the Mountain of Imprisonment boss | Not listed |
| Long Pillar locations | Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Meigu Lake, the mirror realm, and the fifth in the finale area | Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Meigu Lake, the Meigu Lake Hidden Realm, Crimson Manor | Game Rant: one in the mirror realm and another in Mirage Estate |
Phantom Blade Zero point of no return
There are two warnings, and both are the game telling you to stop and check your journal.
- Mirage Estate (first warning). At the end of the main quest The Four Serpent Houses you open the door at the back of the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen. If any of the ten pre-Mirage Tales are unfinished, PowerPyx says the game warns you before you go through. Game Rant adds that if you ignore it, you will not trigger the Perfect Ending.
- The Last Chance bell, Mount Soulrend (final warning). This one appears no matter what, because you can’t leave the final boss area until the ending plays. Clear any other side quests here too: PowerPyx notes some become missable once you push through Mount Soulrend.
PowerPyx’s advice for the whole game holds here: keep a manual save at the start and end of each region, and check the journal for quests marked red as “failed” before moving on. Our Phantom Blade Zero beginner’s guide covers bells, saves and the early systems.
Spoiler: the final fights and the True ending trigger (tap to show)
According to PowerPyx, the normal final boss is Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil; beating her unlocks All Dreams Must End. If every True ending step is done, a true final boss follows straight after her, and beating that fight plays the True ending and unlocks With Heart and Blood. Game Rant describes the same extra fight as exclusive to the Perfect Ending.
Game Rant also says that before the final boss at Mount Soulrend you should listen to Inanis: if she doesn’t mention anything major left to resolve, you’re clear to continue.
What if you get the normal ending?
You don’t have to replay the whole game. Game Rant says that after the credits you can either start a new cycle (New Game+) or load back to The Last Chance bell, before the point of no return, finish the missing requirements and fight the final bosses again for the Perfect Ending. PowerPyx adds that after the final boss you can free-roam all areas to finish collectibles and Tales, except the missable trophy Tales.
Game Rant lists the True ending rewards as Broken Long Body (a Soul tempering material) and the Legacy Outfit, unless you already have the outfit from pre-ordering.
Ending trophies and achievements
Only a handful of the 66 Steam achievements are tied to the ending route. The table below is that subset; the full list with every missable is in our Phantom Blade Zero trophy list.
| Achievement | Steam description | Link to the ending |
|---|---|---|
| With Heart and Blood | All Comes to Light | The True ending. Missable; PowerPyx rates it the hardest trophy. |
| All Dreams Must End | All Schemes Come to Nothing | Beat the normal final boss (story, can’t be missed). |
| Forbidden Arts Beneath the Lake | Complete [Secrets at the Heart of the Lake] | Required True ending Tale. Missable. |
| Phantom and Blade | Complete [Bloodline Awakening] | All five Long Pillars. |
| Lost and Found | Complete All [Quick Hand’s Requests] | Quick Hand Zhang’s relics. |
| The Two Blade Masters | Defeat Zhu Yuan and Commander Bi Feng | Both bosses are required for the True ending, per PowerPyx. |
A day after launch, Steam’s global stats still round the share of players with With Heart and Blood and All Dreams Must End to 0.0% (checked October 30, 05:40 UTC). Few players have reached the finale yet, which is no surprise given the campaign length covered in our Phantom Blade Zero how long to beat guide.
Spoiler: what the Long Pillars are about (tap to show)
TheGamer says the Long Pillars give background on Soul and his relationship with a masked figure, revealed a little more at each Pillar. Game Rant ties them to the Gold-Masked One encounters in Bloodline Awakening.
FAQ
Does Phantom Blade Zero have 8 endings?
That was the pre-launch claim. As of October 30 no post-launch guide lists eight separate endings: PowerPyx documents two, and Game Rant says the others are mostly variations of the regular ending. We’ll update this page if S-GAME or a full ending guide confirms the count.
Can you get the true ending on the easiest difficulty?
Yes. Director Soulframe Liang said all achievements can be earned on any of the first three difficulties, even entirely on Wayfarer, in one playthrough (Push Square). That includes With Heart and Blood.
Do you need New Game+ for the true ending?
No. PowerPyx lists one playthrough as the minimum for every trophy. New Game+ is only needed if you missed a missable trophy Tale and have no earlier save.
Is the true ending missable?
Only in the sense that you can walk past the warnings. The game warns you at Mirage Estate and at The Last Chance bell, and Game Rant says you can load back to that bell after the credits to try again.
