Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey comes to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 on December 8
Publisher Fictions and developer Panache Digital Games have announced new versions of the 2019 evolution survival game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, launching December 8. According to the announcement, the game has been rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and adds documentary-style narration, a photo mode and quality-of-life improvements. Existing owners get a free upgrade to the new versions, and the same additions come to PC as a free update.

Steam begins testing Achievement Sets, with separate DLC and seasonal achievements
Valve has opened a Steam Client beta for Achievement Sets, which let developers group a game's achievements into collections such as single-player, multiplayer or DLC, each with its own progress bar and a 'set complete' trophy. DLC achievements no longer count against your overall progress until you own that content, and developers can now archive time-limited or seasonal achievements so missed ones don't block completion. Valve says a redesigned achievements page also lets you compare progress with up to three friends; it works today in the client beta and in a growing number of games that support it.

Squad is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027, free PS5 alpha starts October 16
Offworld Industries is bringing its 100-player tactical shooter Squad to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as Squad Console Edition, with launch set for 2027 according to the official site. PS5 players get free early access through an alpha preview running October 16 to 25 (details at alpha.joinsquad.com). Offworld promises handpicked maps, a radial wheel for commands and pings, and optional crossplay between consoles, IGN reports.

Jagex cancels RuneScape Reignited after player backlash
Jagex has scrapped RuneScape Reignited, the fresh-start character type it revealed at RuneFest on October 3, after veteran players objected that it would split the community. "It is clear that we missed the mark on this, and so we are not moving forward with it," creative director Mod Ryan said in a video and blog post on October 15. In its place, new characters and players who have not been members since June 2 get a free 10-day RuneScape membership trial from December 2 to 12 (Old School RuneScape worlds excluded), arriving alongside the new Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey.

Zero Parades: Director's Cut is coming to Switch 2 on November 3
ZA/UM's espionage RPG Zero Parades: Director's Cut will launch on Switch 2 on November 3, the same day as the previously announced PS5 version, the studio announced on October 15. The Switch 2 version supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, touchscreen input and HD Rumble 2. The Director's Cut adds a new Dramatic Encounter, a Backstage Mode with cut content and about 40,000 words of new writing, and is already out on PC as a free upgrade for existing owners.

Soulslike Western shooter Guns of Eschaton is dated for December 8
Guns of Eschaton launches on December 8 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment announced. The first-person Soulslike is set in an apocalyptic Western world shaped by the art direction of Viktor Antonov (Half-Life 2, Dishonored) and pairs a solo-first campaign with optional co-op. No price has been announced yet; the game can be wishlisted on Steam.

Activision QA testers vote to authorize a strike on the eve of Modern Warfare 4 early access
Quality assurance testers at Activision Publishing, represented by the Communications Workers of America, voted on October 15 to authorize a strike after more than two years of talks over a first contract, the CWA says. The union accuses Activision of stalling on wages, AI guardrails, contractor use and disability accommodations; the vote lets CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. call a strike if talks stay stuck. Activision told Kotaku it has made meaningful progress, has offered to meet again on October 21 and 22, and has plans in place so players and upcoming releases are not disrupted.

Gravity Circuit 2 adds a Switch 2 version, targets spring 2027
Dear Villagers and Finnish studio Domesticated Ant Games have added Switch 2 to the platforms for Gravity Circuit 2, their side-scrolling action platformer sequel. It is due in spring 2027 on PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), with a new release-window trailer. The game lets you play as Kai or Cable in one shared campaign, with more than a dozen stages and 8 Hunter Circuit bosses. No price has been announced.

When Sirens Fall Silent is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S too
Wired Productions has announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of When Sirens Fall Silent, the psychological thriller from LKA (The Town of Light, Martha Is Dead). It was previously announced only for PC. The news came with a new trailer, Act III: The Man. Mila, a police officer in 1990s Italy, is investigating a string of kidnappings and murders. There is still no release date or price.

Diablo 5 starts shooting its cinematics
Diablo cinematic director Neil David Carter posted a photo of an empty motion capture stage on X with the caption "First shoot #Diablo5", signalling that filming for the game's cinematics is underway. Blizzard revealed Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026 with a spring 2029 release window; it is set 100 years after Diablo 4, in a Sanctuary that has already fallen to Diablo.

Arizona Sunshine's flat-screen remake dated for January 21, 2027
Vertigo Games says its third-person take on the VR zombie shooter launches January 21, 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, priced at $24.99, with a $29.99 Deluxe Edition that bundles the original Legacy campaign and its DLC. Pre-orders are open now on Steam, Epic, PS5 and Xbox (20% off on Steam, Epic and PS5), Switch 2 pre-orders come later, and Deluxe pre-orders get 48-hour early access. The game supports solo play, online co-op and local split-screen, and a second player can control Sunny's dog Buddy.

Quarantine Zone gets free Miami Zero expansion, out now on Xbox and PC
Brigada Games released Miami Zero, a free expansion for zombie checkpoint sim Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, on October 15 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Game Pass. Set in Miami at the start of the outbreak, it brings a new campaign, more than 30 new survivors, new symptoms and contraband to spot, a research centre and dynamic weather, according to the developer's Xbox Wire post. It is free for everyone who owns the base game.

Star Wars Zero Company update 1.2 adds hardcore campaign modifiers and cheaper upgrades
EA and developers Bit Reactor and Respawn released patch 1.2 for Star Wars Zero Company on October 15. New campaigns can now switch on optional modifiers, such as instant-death injuries, a chance of permanent death on defeat and slower health growth, and most Upgrade Facility upgrades are much cheaper (Rifle Range I drops from 3,000 to 1,500 credits). The patch also tones down the Astromech, Scout and Cly, and fixes PS5 profile-saving bugs, Overwatch hit chances and a main-menu crash.

WWE 2K26 adds Street Fighter versions of five wrestlers on October 28
The WWE 2K26 X Street Fighter Elite Pack arrives October 28 and is based on Mattel's crossover action figures. It adds The Rock as M. Bison, Rey Mysterio as Ryu, Bianca Belair as Cammy, Ultimate Warrior as Blanka and Dominik Mysterio as Ken, each with their own entrance plus moves like the Shoryuken and Shinku Hadoken, and 15 create-a-superstar parts. According to VGC it is paid DLC that isn't included in any existing bundle or premium edition, and no price has been reported yet.

Hitman: Absolution gets a Switch 2 Edition on October 22
Feral Interactive's port of Hitman: Absolution comes to Switch 2 on October 22, with higher resolution in handheld and docked play, up to 60fps in handheld mode, and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. It costs $29.99 at launch (25% off) through November 4, then $39.99. Owners of the original Switch version can upgrade for free until November 4, after which the upgrade pack costs $9.99.

007 First Light locks in March 18, 2027 for Switch 2
IO Interactive's James Bond game finally has a firm Switch 2 date: March 18, 2027, revealed in a new trailer at IGN Fan Fest, with pre-orders open now. The port was pushed back several times and has been waiting on a release day since IOI moved it to March 2027 in September. VGC reports the Switch 2 version is listed as a Deluxe Edition at $69.99, and the game has been out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC since May 27.

Caves of Qud expansion becomes the first Early Access DLC on Steam
Freehold Games and publisher Kitfox Games are releasing Diaspora, the first expansion for roguelike RPG Caves of Qud, through Steam Early Access, which Game Developer reports is a first for a DLC on the platform; Valve made a manual backend change to allow it. The developer says it doesn't want to be "beholden to a timeline" that compromises the expansion. The Steam store page currently lists December 9, 2026.

Xbox Free Play Days: NBA 2K27, Crusader Kings III and more this weekend
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members can play Crusader Kings III, Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop, Soccer Story and Ravenswatch free from today until Sunday, October 18, with NBA 2K27 joining from Friday, October 16 at 12pm PDT. Xbox survey floats making Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Minecraft console exclusives
Xbox is polling select Xbox Insiders on whether they would buy more if future Fallout, The Elder Scrolls and Minecraft games became Xbox console exclusives, according to survey screenshots verified by Windows Central. One scenario goes further and asks about making every future release from Xbox-developed franchises except Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox consoles, with PC unaffected. Microsoft has not commented, and surveys like this often test ideas that never happen, so treat it as a sounding-out rather than a plan.

Edge of Memories slips four weeks to December 3
Nacon has moved Midgar Studio's action RPG Edge of Memories from November 5 to December 3, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Gematsu reports. The publisher says the quieter release period will let players discover the game at their own pace, which also keeps it out of the way of GTA 6 on November 19.

GTA 6 squeaks into The Game Awards 2026 eligibility window
The Game Awards' official rules set this year's cutoff at November 20, 2026 at 9 p.m. PT, which means Grand Theft Auto 6, due November 19, qualifies for Game of the Year and the other jury categories by a single day. The Players' Voice category has a later cutoff of November 30. The show streams live on Thursday, December 10 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

SEGA pulls Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition from sale two days after launch
SEGA says it is removing Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition from sale on PC and restoring the original 2011 release while it investigates problems, admitting in a statement on X that the current experience "is not where it needs to be." The Complete Edition launched on October 13 and quickly fell to an Overwhelmingly Negative rating on Steam, with players reporting bugs, performance issues and what they say are AI-upscaled assets. Existing owners keep access, and SEGA has given no date for its return.

Ubisoft asks about 100 staff at its German studios to take buyouts
Ubisoft has started talks with the works council at its three German studios, Düsseldorf, Mainz and Berlin, about a voluntary departure plan, Game File reports. The studios employ roughly 600 people and the target is around 100 departures, with a reported payout of 1.5 months' salary per year of service, though the terms are not final. It follows this week's news that Ubisoft is closing Trials studio RedLynx and cutting staff at Ubisoft Singapore.
