The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 launches Oct 29 at $519.99 with no game. What’s in the box, the matching accessories and where to pre-order.

The Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition arrives on October 29, 2026, and Nintendo’s US store lists it at $519.99. That’s a standard Switch 2 dressed in green, gold and Triforce art for $20 more than the regular console. One thing to know before you order: no game comes in the box, so Ocarina of Time, out a week later on November 5, is a separate purchase.

Here’s what you get, what the full Zelda setup costs, and where to look for a console now that stock is patchy.

What’s in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 box

According to the official Nintendo Store listing, the bundle includes:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 system, with Zelda-inspired patterns and symbols on the back
  • Joy-Con 2 (L) and Joy-Con 2 (R) in green and gold
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock in black and gold, with a golden Triforce on the front
  • Joy-Con 2 Grip and two Joy-Con 2 straps
  • AC adapter, USB-C charging cable and Ultra High Speed HDMI cable

Inside, it’s the same hardware as any other Switch 2: a 7.9-inch 1080p screen, up to 4K output in TV mode with compatible games, and 256GB of storage you can expand with microSD Express cards. The anniversary edition doesn’t add storage or performance. The extra $20 pays for the design: a gold Triforce on the left Joy-Con, with patterns that carry onto the back of the console and dock.

Price: how it compares with other Switch 2 bundles

Nintendo Switch 2 option (US, Nintendo Store) Price Release
Standard Nintendo Switch 2 $499.99 Out now
Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition (no game) $519.99 October 29, 2026
Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle $529.99 October 22, 2026
Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle $549.99 Out now

If you mainly want a Switch 2 and the design doesn’t matter to you, the bundles that include a game are better value. The Zelda edition only makes sense if those Triforce Joy-Con are a big part of why you’re buying.

The matching Zelda accessories (also October 29)

Already own a Switch 2? You can still get the theme through the accessories, which launch the same day:

Where to buy or pre-order the Zelda Switch 2

When we checked Nintendo’s US store on October 15, the console was listed as out of stock, and the page points shoppers to other retailers through a “Find retailers” button. TechRadar’s pre-order guide lists Amazon, Best Buy, Target and the Nintendo Store as US retailers, and says the console was selling out at most stores within days of the September reveal. If you missed out, check those stores again as launch gets closer. Stick to the $519.99 list price rather than paying a reseller’s markup.

How it ties in with Ocarina of Time on November 5

The console lands one week before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the rebuilt 1998 classic that launches on Switch 2 on November 5. In its 40th anniversary announcement, Nintendo promises overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, orchestral music, new jump and camera controls, and an ocarina you can play by humming into the Switch 2 microphone. We’ve covered what Nintendo’s latest trailer showed in our Ocarina of Time Switch 2 overview.

To play Ocarina on day one, the full setup costs:

  • Zelda edition console + digital Ocarina of Time ($59.99): $579.98
  • Zelda edition console + physical Ocarina of Time ($69.99): $589.98

The first print run of the physical game comes in special packaging with textured foil cover art, while supplies last. If you go digital, Nintendo estimates the download at 27GB, so it fits easily in the 256GB of built-in storage.

Who the Zelda edition is for

It’s worth your time if you haven’t bought a Switch 2 yet, Zelda is your series, and you’d pay $20 to have Hyrule on your shelf every day. If you already own a Switch 2, the $99.99 Pro Controller gives you most of the look for far less than a second console.

What’s next

The anniversary console and accessories launch on October 29, and Ocarina of Time follows on November 5. We’ll keep an eye on restocks as launch gets closer and cover the Ocarina launch, including what’s changed from the N64 original.
