The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is on sale now for $1,299.99, or $2,499.99 with XREAL AR glasses. Here’s what’s new versus the Ally X and how to buy it.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is on sale now in the US for $1,299.99, ASUS announced on October 15, 2026. A premium bundle with ROG XREAL AR glasses and two cases costs $2,499.99. The 20th-anniversary handheld is the first Ally with an OLED screen, and it sits above the existing ROG Xbox Ally ($599) and Ally X ($999), which stay on sale at those prices.

ASUS confirmed the launch in an official press release, and Microsoft pointed players to it from Xbox Wire. ASUS first revealed the X20 back in June. It has a translucent black shell with gold details, and it marks 20 years since the Republic of Gamers brand started in 2006.

ROG Xbox Ally X20 price and how to buy it

  • ROG Xbox Ally X20 (standalone): $1,299.99, on the ROG product page and the ASUS eShop.
  • ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle: $2,499.99. You get the handheld plus ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case with an exclusive skin and stick caps, and a Pelican Protector case with room for everything (ASUS eShop listing).
  • Extras: the US spec sheet lists two months of Xbox Game Pass Premium in eligible markets. ASUS notes that whether a charger comes in the box depends on the country and model, so check your local listing.

When we checked at about 14:15 UTC, the ASUS US eShop listed the bundle as in stock. Expect launch-day stock to change quickly. ASUS’s press release only lists US pricing.

What’s new compared with the ROG Xbox Ally X

The X20 uses the same chip, memory and battery as the $999 Ally X. The extra $300 pays for the screen, the controls and the cooling. Here’s how they compare, using ASUS’s official spec pages:

ROG Xbox Ally X20 ROG Xbox Ally X
Price (US) $1,299.99 $999.99
Display 7.4-inch 1080p OLED, 120Hz, 1,400 nits HDR peak 7-inch 1080p IPS-level, 120Hz, 500 nits
Processor AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme
Memory / storage 24GB LPDDR5X / 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD 24GB LPDDR5X / 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
Battery 80Wh 80Wh
Sticks and D-pad TMR magnetic sticks, transforming 4/8-way D-pad Standard analog sticks and D-pad
Weight 756 g (1.67 lbs) 715 g (1.58 lbs)

For many players, the TMR joysticks will matter most. ASUS says their magnetic sensors greatly cut the risk of stick drift, with a tight 3% dead zone. The D-pad switches from four-way to eight-way movement without tools, which helps in fighting games. The screen supports Dolby Vision and VRR, and ASUS says the redesigned fans move 20% more air to keep the OLED panel and the grips cool. Like the other Ally models, the X20 runs Windows 11 Home with the console-style Xbox mode on top.

Software updates and the AR glasses

The launch also brings an Armoury Crate SE update. You can now remap the Command Center, Library and Action buttons, and save your wattage settings to a game’s profile in one click. A new Travel Mode limits charging to 65W so the handheld works with plane and train seat sockets. It turns on by itself when Airplane Mode is on. Bigger updates will first go to an opt-in preview channel.

The bundle’s XREAL R1 Edition 20 glasses connect with one USB-C cable. ASUS says they show a virtual screen equal to 171 inches at 4 meters, with a 240Hz micro-OLED display, 3DoF head tracking and an Anchor Mode that keeps the screen in place.

Is it worth $1,299?

The first reviews are arriving. Dexerto’s review calls it the best gaming handheld you can buy and says the upgrades justify the premium, though it is “far from cheap”. If you already own an Ally X, you’re mainly paying for the OLED screen and the drift-resistant sticks. If you’re buying your first Xbox-ready handheld, the $599 and $999 models are still on sale. What’s next

The announcement only covers US pricing, so check the ROG product page in your country for local prices and dates. More reviews should follow over the next few days, and we’ll update this post if ASUS confirms prices for the UK or Europe.
