New to Steal an Egg on Roblox? Claim 10,000 free Speed, farm the right eggs, buy the best early trails and treadmills, and unlock every biome faster.

Steal an Egg is the biggest game on Roblox right now: on October 15, 2026 it had more than 1.1 million people playing at once and over 8 billion visits, according to its Roblox page. The whole game comes down to one stat, Speed. You grab eggs from guarded nests, hatch them into pets that earn cash, and turn that cash and the hatch rewards into more Speed so you can reach farther biomes with better eggs. This guide shows the fastest way through the early game and what is worth spending on first.

  • Do this first: like the game, favorite it and join its community group to get 10,000 free Speed. That is already enough for the Lake (900) and the Desert (10K) biomes.
  • Speed is the main stat. It decides which biomes you can steal from and whether you outrun the guardian on the way back.
  • Cheap, fast eggs are your Speed engine. A Frog egg from the Lake gives +2k Speed after 15 seconds; a Jerboa from the Desert gives +7.2k after 20 seconds.
  • Trails multiply your treadmill gains, they don’t make you run faster on their own. Buy the Grey Trail ($100) and Green Trail ($5k) early.
  • There are no codes. As of October 15, 2026 the game has no code redemption at all.

How Steal an Egg works

Every biome has nests guarded by a sleeping monster (the guardian). You take an egg, run it back to your pen before the guardian catches you, and wait for it to grow. When it hatches you get a one-time reward of Speed and cash, plus a pet that earns money every second for as long as it sits in your pen. The game’s Roblox description sums the loop up the same way: steal eggs, hatch them, earn money from pets, and upgrade your treadmill and base.

Three things decide how good a pet is, according to the community wiki:

  • Rarity sets its base income per second, from Common up through Legendary, Mythic, Cosmic, Secret, Eternal and Divine.
  • Size: bigger eggs hatch into heavier pets that earn more, but they also slow you down while you carry them.
  • Mutation: a separate roll at hatch time (Silver, Golden, Rainbow and event-only ones) that multiplies income.

The egg’s color does not matter. The wiki’s egg page says colors only change how the egg and pet look, not what they earn, so judge an egg by its shape and size. Nests reset every 5 minutes, so if someone beats you to an egg, wait for the reset rather than leaving the biome.

Your first 15 minutes: the fastest start

1. Claim the free 10,000 Speed

Before you touch a nest, like the game, add it to your favorites and join the developer’s community group. The wiki’s Speed page and TechWiser’s guide both list the reward as 10,000 Speed. Starting players have almost nothing, so this is the single biggest boost you’ll get early on.

2. Grab a few Forest eggs for cash

The Forest needs no Speed and its guardian is a Chicken. Its eggs are slow sources of Speed but a fine source of starter money. Each egg’s cash reward is 100 seconds of that pet’s income, so the Epic eggs pay out well the moment they hatch.

Forest egg Rarity Income Grow time Hatch reward
Chicken Common $1/s 10s +420 Speed, $100
Dog Common $2/s 15s +460 Speed, $200
Bird Uncommon $8/s 25s +500 Speed, $800
Fox Epic $180/s 1m 30s +720 Speed, $18k
Bear Epic $240/s 2m +820 Speed, $24k
Brr Brr Patapim Legendary $1.8K/s 5m +1k Speed, $180k

3. Move to the Lake, then the Desert, for Speed

This is the part many new players miss. Hatch rewards jump with every biome, and the cheapest eggs in a new biome give far more Speed than the best eggs in the old one. A Lake Frog gives +2k Speed in 15 seconds, almost five times what a Chicken gives. With the free 10,000 Speed you also meet the Desert’s 10K requirement on paper, and its Jerboa egg gives +7.2k Speed after only 20 seconds.

Early Speed egg Biome (Speed needed) Grow time Hatch reward
Chicken Forest (none) 10s +420 Speed, $100
Frog Lake (900) 15s +2k Speed, $300
Duckling Lake (900) 20s +2.2k Speed, $400
Jerboa Desert (10K) 20s +7.2k Speed, $600

One caution: the wiki’s biome page notes that big eggs slow you down, so you need more Speed than the listed requirement to carry them out. If you’re right at the threshold, take the small eggs. The Lake’s top prize, the Cosmic Leviathan ($220K/s, 25-minute grow time), is a heavy egg worth coming back for once you have Speed to spare.

What to buy first: treadmills and trails

Cash goes into two Speed upgrades. Treadmills give a fixed amount of Speed per step while you run on them, and you can stand on one while waiting for eggs to grow. Trails are where many guides get it wrong: according to the wiki’s Trail page, a trail multiplies the Speed you gain on the treadmill, and it does not make you faster when you’re off the treadmill. Only one trail can be equipped at a time.

Upgrade Price Effect
Grey Trail $100 1.5x treadmill Speed
Green Trail $5k 2x treadmill Speed
Sci-Fi Treadmill $15K +5 Speed per step (base: +2)
Blue Trail $75k 2.5x treadmill Speed
Flame Treadmill $250K +12 Speed per step
Purple Trail $1.5M 3x treadmill Speed
Celebrity Treadmill $5M +30 Speed per step

Prices from the wiki’s trail and treadmill data, checked October 15, 2026. The lists continue far beyond this, up to the Moonbloom Trail (20x) and the Astral Treadmill (+3k per step).

A simple order that works: Grey Trail as soon as you hatch anything, Green Trail next, then the Sci-Fi Treadmill. A single Fox or Bear egg from the Forest covers the Sci-Fi Treadmill on its own. After that, keep alternating between the next trail and the next treadmill, whichever is cheaper.

Pocket Gamer’s hands-on tips add one easy win: after hatching, use Pets > Equip Best so your highest earners are always the ones making money.

All biomes and the Speed they need

Each biome is farther from your base than the last and has a faster guardian. These are the requirements listed on the wiki as of October 15, 2026:

# Biome Speed needed Guardian
1 Forest None Chicken
2 Lake 900 Swan
3 Desert 10K Scorpion
4 Jungle 40K Tiger
5 Snow 170K Yeti
6 Volcano 700K Cerberus
7 Abyss Ocean 2.5M Moby
8 Prehistoric 18M T-Rex
9 Cosmic 700M Cosmic Skeleton
10 Cherry Blossom 2.5B Oni Tiger
11 Titan Temple 7B Gorilla King
12 Angels & Demons 20B ArchAngel, World Burner, Aetheron
13 Enchanted Forest 50B Not yet documented

The pattern to remember: as soon as you unlock a new biome, spend a few rounds hatching its cheapest, fastest eggs. Their Speed rewards are what carry you to the next one.

Mutations and sizes: which pets to keep

Two copies of the same pet can earn very different amounts. The wiki’s Mutations page lists these income multipliers:

Mutation Income How you get it
Silver 1.2x Normal hatch roll (weight 6 in 100)
Golden 2.5x Normal hatch roll (weight 4 in 100)
Rainbow 3.5x Normal hatch roll (weight 1 in 100)
Fractured 2.75x Mutation Consumable, 10% chance
Scrambled 2.75x Dr. Scramble’s shop, 10% chance
Parasite 3x Parasite Egg from the feeding event
Bloom / Spirit Bloom 1.25x / 2.5x Sakura Incubator (not currently active)

Size stacks on top of the mutation. The wiki’s example: a $100/s pet that is Golden and Giant makes $750/s, and a Rainbow Huge one makes $1,750/s. Size has diminishing returns, though. By the wiki’s formula an egg 100 times a pet’s base weight is worth about 17 times its base income, and one 1,000 times heavier only about 45 times. In practice, a big mutated pet from a biome you can comfortably reach is often worth more than a tiny one from a biome you can barely escape.

Bear traps and other players

You can also steal from other players, and they can steal from you. Your defense is the bear trap. According to the wiki:

  • You can only place traps while holding an egg, and never in the safe zone.
  • You can have up to 3 on the map at once, with an unlimited supply.
  • Anyone who steps in one is stuck for 7 seconds, and the trap comes back to you.

Drop traps behind you on the route home when you’re carrying a heavy egg, since that’s when you’re slowest and easiest to catch.

Robux boosts: optional

The shop sells a 2x money game pass (399 Robux), a 2x egg growth pass (467 Robux) and Speed multipliers, according to the wiki’s game pass page. None of it is needed to progress; everything in this guide uses in-game cash.

Latest updates and what’s next

The developers ship an update almost every Saturday at 15:00 UTC, announced through the game’s official Roblox events. Recent ones:

  • October 3, 2026, new biome: the Enchanted Forest, the farthest zone so far, with 8 pets and a 50B Speed requirement.
  • October 10, 2026, Mounts: you can now ride your pets. RBLXGUIDE reports that turning a pet into a mount uses a Shooting Star, which can’t be undone, so choose the pet carefully.
  • October 17, 2026, Halloween Dimension: the next official event teases a gateway to a Halloween Dimension with bosses and secret eggs.

Pocket Gamer’s advice is worth following here: check the upcoming event and save cash or train extra Speed in the days before an update lands, so you can make the most of the new eggs.

FAQ

Are there any Steal an Egg codes?

No. As of October 15, 2026 there are no codes and the game has no way to redeem them, according to the wiki’s codes page, TechWiser and Pocket Gamer. Ignore sites or videos promising “free egg codes”.

What should I do first in Steal an Egg?

Claim the free 10,000 Speed by liking, favoriting and joining the community group. Then buy the Grey Trail ($100) and Green Trail ($5k) and start hatching Lake and Desert eggs for Speed.

How often do eggs respawn?

Nests reset every 5 minutes. Limited eggs, such as event eggs, don’t appear in normal nests and only come from the store or special events.

Does egg color affect income?

No. Color only changes how the egg and pet look. Size and mutation are what change a pet’s income.

Do trails make you run faster?

Not directly. Trails multiply the Speed you gain while training on a treadmill, so they pay off over time rather than instantly.
