Peter Berg says his Call of Duty movie is about the cost of war
Director Peter Berg told ComicBook.com that the live-action Call of Duty film is about "the cost of war, the cost of having to be a warrior," adding that "there's a real soul to the Modern Warfare universe." He spoke while promoting his Netflix WWII film The Mosquito Bowl. The Paramount and Activision film, written by Taylor Sheridan, is dated for theaters on June 30, 2028.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma receives his French knighthood in Paris
Eiji Aonuma was formally made a Knight (Chevalier) of the Order of Arts and Letters at the French Ministry of Culture in Paris this week, nearly three years after France announced the honor in 2023, Kotaku reports. Culture Minister Catherine Pégard presented the medallion and called him "a storyteller who always leaves room for the player's imagination." Shigeru Miyamoto received the same French honor years ago.

Discord says Nitro members can now claim the Code Blurple weapon blueprint for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, a one-time code available only through Nitro, from October 23, 2026 through August 6, 2027. Claim it from the Bring Nitro to your loadout card in Nitro Home on the desktop app, then redeem it at callofduty.com/redeem with your Activision account. Nitro Basic and Nitro Classic subscribers, and members on some partner or large-scale promotional trials, are not eligible, according to Discord's support page.

A free Knightmare adventure game with the show's original cast is coming in 2027
A free point-and-click adventure based on the classic CITV dungeon show Knightmare is in development, written and designed by Ewen Watson, with series creator Tim Child credited and backing the project, according to the game's official site and VGC. Original stars including Hugo Myatt (Treguard) and Mark Knight (Lord Fear) voice their characters. It's planned for 2027, the show's 40th anniversary, and VGC reports it's coming to PC only, with no console plans.

Probably Stolen leads Steam Next Fest's most-played demos with two days left
Cyberpunk shopkeeper sim Probably Stolen has topped the October Next Fest demo charts for most of the event, with about 31,600 concurrent players on day six according to Output Lag's hourly tracking of Steam player counts, ahead of classroom chaos game Worst Class Ever (about 22,700), Abyssal Lapidary, Frostrail and just volleyball. Steam's own player-count API showed nearly 20,000 people in the Probably Stolen demo this evening, and the full game from Questing Goose Studio and tinyBuild launches on October 28. Next Fest runs until 10 a.m. PT on October 26, so the free demos are still live on Steam.

Tim Sweeney calls Steam's AI disclosure requirement "abhorrent"
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has hit out at Valve's rule that developers disclose generative AI content on Steam, a disclosure that is shown to players on the game's store page. Replying on X on October 23 to a post from Matt Workman, who called the premise of the disclosure "ABSURD in 2026", Sweeney wrote: "Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they're helping organize is abhorrent."

Paralives' first major update will miss its end-of-2026 target
Paralives Studio says its first major Early Access update, originally announced for the end of 2026, needs "a little more time", and it has not given a new date. The October development update on Steam lists the plans: deeper relationships and Together Cards, more autonomous interactions, a Jester trait rework, a tougher economy, two new skills and new jobs, build-breaking bug fixes and new furniture, plus wider fat and muscle sliders and new hair and clothing in the Paramaker. The team says the list is not final, and that weather, seasons, pets and cars are saved for later major updates.

Unverified: YouTuber says he advised BioWare and shares claimed details of the cancelled Mass Effect Universe
YouTuber Dantics says he sat on BioWare's 'Mass Effect Council' and saw the cancelled Mass Effect Universe during development. In a post on X, he claims the game was set more than 600 years after the Reaper War, around a 'galactic Cold War' between three blocs, with the Geth as one superpower. He also claims you'd play a customizable N7 agent with implants for hacking the environment, and that Liara would return as a powerful Asari Matriarch. None of this is confirmed: neither BioWare nor EA has commented, and Eurogamer notes that his council role hasn't been independently verified.
Steam's Personal Calendar leaves Steam Labs and becomes a full store feature
Valve says the Personal Calendar has graduated from Steam Labs with its October 23 Steam update and now sits on the Steam store homepage, or at store.steampowered.com/personalcalendar. It shows recently released and upcoming games over an eight-week window. To pick them, it finds players whose playtime looks like yours, based on the games you play most, and checks what they're wishlisting and playing. Valve says the recommendations are retrained daily, so a few minutes in a new game won't shift them much.

Diablo 4 patch 3.2.4, due October 28, will let Prime Evil Splinters stack to 99
Blizzard's patch notes for Diablo 4 version 3.2.4 (build 74043), dated October 28, raise the Prime Evil Splinter stack size from 1 to 99 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Until now Season 15 players could hold only one Splinter of each type, so duplicate drops were wasted. The rest of the patch covers general stability, visual and UI improvements.

PSA says the FBI is investigating the theft of 6,451 cards bound for collectors
Grading company PSA says the FBI and the Santa Ana Police Department are both investigating the October 13 theft of more than 200 packages from a FedEx truck outside its Santa Ana, California, headquarters, and it has published the full list of 6,451 stolen items. PSA says it has deactivated the certification number of every stolen graded item, refunded grading fees separately from any later compensation, and is contacting affected customers directly. Police have put the loss at nearly $1 million in Pokemon and sports cards.

Fallout Shelter is getting more Seasons, including TV-inspired content and an adoptable Baby Deathclaw, with no dates yet, and Fallout 4 gained two new Creations, Command Override and FEVer Dreams. Fans can also vote on a Nuka-Cola Twist soda flavor with JONES Soda until October 31.

Bethesda's Fallout Day roundup confirms Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, an elimination-style competition series from Amazon Prime Video, Kilter Films and Studio Lambert, where contestants face escalating vault challenges for a large cash prize. It premieres January 13, 2027, only on Prime Video. This year's Fallout Day was a week of social posts rather than a live broadcast, and Bethesda says next year's will be held live in Washington, D.C. for the first time.
