Skyrim Console Commands: Gold, Perk Points, Skills and Item IDs

Press ~ on PC and type player.additem f 1000 for gold. Every Skyrim cheat for perks, skills, carry weight and dragon souls, plus item IDs and achievement rules.

Skyrim console commands only work on PC: press the ~ (tilde) key in game, type a command such as player.additem f 1000 for 1,000 gold, and press Enter. That works the same in Skyrim Special Edition and the Anniversary Edition on Steam. According to UESP, the console doesn’t disable achievements, even though the game may warn you that it does. One thing many lists get wrong: there is no command that adds perk points directly, but there are three workarounds. Below you’ll find the exact syntax for gold, perks, skills, carry weight and dragon souls, a table of common item IDs, and the commands that can break a save. Checked October 29, 2026 UTC, against Steam update 1.7.99.

Quick answer

  • Open the console: press ~ or `, the key under Esc. On non-US keyboards it’s the key in the same spot (for example ^ on German, ² on French, § on Nordic layouts).
  • Gold: player.additem f 1000
  • Perk points: there’s no vanilla command. Use incpcs <skill>, which gives a normal level-up with a perk point, or add a perk with player.addperk <ID>.
  • Skills: player.advskill <skill> <xp> counts toward leveling. player.setav <skill> 100 doesn’t.
  • Carry weight: player.modav carryweight 1000
  • Dragon souls: player.modav dragonsouls 10
  • God mode / noclip: tgm / tcl
  • Find any item ID: help "daedric", then scroll with Page Up and Page Down.
  • Achievements: console commands don’t block them. Mods do (unless a Creation is flagged achievement-friendly). caqs and saq can unlock quest achievements by themselves.

How to open the console in Skyrim (PC only)

The UESP Skyrim console page calls the console “a powerful in-game tool only available to PC players”. It works in the original 2011 release, Special Edition and the Anniversary Edition upgrade.

  1. Load a save. Make a separate save first, because UESP warns that some commands cause problems you won’t notice until much later.
  2. Press ~. A prompt appears in the bottom-left corner and the game pauses.
  3. Type the command and press Enter. Commands aren’t case-sensitive.
  4. Press ~ again to close the console.

If the key does nothing, Game Rant suggests checking the “Open Console” binding in the controls settings (under Other). On non-US layouts, UESP lists the right key for each language (Spanish º, Italian and Portuguese , Danish ½, Hungarian 0). You can also remap it in DataInterfaceControlsPCControlMap.txt, where the console’s default value is 0x29. The Steam Deck runs the Steam PC version, so the console is there too. You just need a way to press tilde, such as a keyboard or a Steam Input binding.

Xbox, PlayStation and Switch have no console. On Xbox, UESP points to Debug Menu, a third-party mod on Bethesda.net that adds similar commands, but mods turn achievements off.

player. commands vs clicking a target

Many commands are “targeted”. Put player. in front to affect yourself (player.setav health 500), or click an NPC or object while the console is open and then type the command alone. The selected object’s reference ID shows at the top of the screen. To target someone without clicking, use prid <RefID>. Lydia, for example, is A2C94 in UESP’s examples.

Skyrim gold, perk points and leveling commands

What you want Command What it does and the catch
Gold player.additem f 1000 Adds 1,000 gold (Gold’s form ID is 0000000f; leading zeros are optional). A negative number removes gold.
Perk point (one at a time) incpcs <skill> Raises one skill by one level. If that fills your level bar, you get a normal level-up with an attribute choice and a perk point.
A specific perk player.addperk <perk ID> Skips perk points entirely. Find the ID with help "juggernaut". UESP’s example: player.addperk 000c44c0 is Adept Destruction.
Remove a perk player.removeperk <perk ID> Doesn’t refund the point. For ranked perks, remove the highest rank first.
Skill XP that counts for leveling player.advskill <skill> <xp> The number is XP, not levels. Crafting skills move fast, armor skills need much bigger numbers.
Set a skill to an exact level player.setav <skill> 100 Instant, but gives no character levels and no perk points.
Permanent skill or stat boost player.modav <value> <amount> Adds a permanent modifier, shown in green in the menu. forceav forces an exact value the same way.
Character level only player.advlevel +1 level with no attribute, no perk point and no skill gain. Enemies still scale up.
Carry weight player.modav carryweight 1000 Characters start at 300 (150 in Survival Mode). setav carryweight also works.
Dragon souls player.modav dragonsouls 10 Souls to spend on shout words.
Movement speed player.setav speedmult 150 Percent of normal speed. Sprint or sneak once so it takes effect.
Full health player.resethealth Restores health to 100%.

Is there a Skyrim perk points command?

Not in the base game. Bethesda’s script engine has a Game.AddPerkPoints function (it adds points up to a cap of 255), but that’s for mod scripts in the Creation Kit, not a console command. Game Rant reaches the same conclusion. Your vanilla options:

  1. Fastest, one point at a time: repeat incpcs <skill> on a skill you plan to raise anyway, and take each level-up as it comes.
  2. Bulk: player.advskill <skill> <large number>. Game Rant says a value like 999999 takes a skill to the maximum, and every skill-up along the way counts toward character levels, so you collect several perk points at once. The points don’t have to go into that skill’s tree.
  3. Skip points: add the exact perks with player.addperk. Game Rant advises adding the earlier perks in a tree too, not just the endgame ones, because perks added without their prerequisites can cause problems.

If you only want to respec, you don’t need the console. When a skill reaches 100 you can make it Legendary, which resets it and refunds its perks.

Skill names for advskill, setav and incpcs

The console uses Skyrim’s internal actor value names, listed on UESP’s Actor Value Indices page. Two of them catch people out: Archery is marksman and Speech is speechcraft.

Skill in the menu Console name Skill in the menu Console name
One-Handed onehanded Alchemy alchemy
Two-Handed twohanded Speech speechcraft
Archery marksman Alteration alteration
Block block Conjuration conjuration
Smithing smithing Destruction destruction
Heavy Armor heavyarmor Illusion illusion
Light Armor lightarmor Restoration restoration
Pickpocket pickpocket Enchanting enchanting
Lockpicking lockpicking Sneak sneak

Example: player.advskill smithing 5000 or player.setav marksman 100.

Skyrim item IDs for common materials

Use these with player.additem <ID> <amount>. The IDs come from UESP’s item pages. Base-game IDs start with 00, and you can leave the leading zeros out.

Item ID Example
Gold 0000000f player.additem f 5000
Lockpick 0000000a player.additem a 50
Iron Ingot 0005ace4 player.additem 5ace4 100
Steel Ingot 0005ace5 player.additem 5ace5 50
Gold Ingot 0005ad9e player.additem 5ad9e 20

Grand Soul Gem (empty) 0002e4fc player.additem 2e4fc 10
Grand Soul Gem (filled) 0002e4ff player.additem 2e4ff 10
Black Soul Gem (empty) 0002e500 player.additem 2e500 5

How to find any other ID

Type help "<name>", for example help "ancient nord". Use quotation marks for names with more than one word. The results list items, spells, perks and locations together. DLC items don’t start with 00. According to UESP’s form ID page, Special Edition loads Dawnguard as 02, Hearthfire as 03 and Dragonborn as 04, and the prefix shifts when you add other plugins, so use the ID that help shows in your own game.

Do Skyrim console commands disable achievements?

No. UESP’s achievements page says: “Despite what the console command interface states, console commands do not disable achievements.” Here is how the rules stand in October 2026:

What you use Achievements
Console commands (PC) Still unlock
caqs or saq Can unlock several quest achievements at once, which you may not want
Mods (PC and consoles) Turned off for Special Edition achievement progress
Creation Club / official Creations Don’t turn them off
Verified Creator Creations flagged achievement-friendly Don’t turn them off on Xbox and PlayStation (since update 1.7.99, new game required)

The last row comes from Bethesda’s update 1.7.99 notes (August 20, 2026, hotfix August 27). They say Verified Creations can now be “Achievement-Friendly (Xbox) and Trophy-Friendly (PlayStation)”, but you have to start a new game for that to apply to updated Creations.

How to cheat without breaking your save

  • Keep a clean save from before your first command. UESP says broken quests or display problems can show up long after the command that caused them.
  • Use the smallest fix. For a stuck quest, try sqs and then setstage to the next stage before you reach for completequest, and never use caqs on a save you care about.
  • Don’t spawn named NPCs with placeatme. To bring one to you, UESP suggests prid <RefID> and then moveto player.
  • Batch files save typing: put commands one per line in SkyrimDataname.txt, then type bat name in the console. coc can’t run from a batch file (UESP says it crashes the game).

FAQ

Why are my Skyrim console commands not working?

Did you put player. in front of commands meant for you? (Without it, they hit whatever you last clicked.) Is the item ID from your load order? DLC and mod prefixes change, so use help. And is the skill name the internal one, such as marksman for Archery? If the console won’t open at all, try the key under Esc on your keyboard layout.

Can you use console commands on Xbox, PS5 or Switch?

No. The console is a PC feature. On Xbox, the Debug Menu mod adds similar options, but mods turn achievements off.

What’s the difference between setav, modav and forceav?

setav sets the base value, modav adds a permanent bonus or penalty on top, and forceav adds whatever modifier is needed to reach an exact number. For carry weight and dragon souls, modav is the usual choice.
