Enable the console, press F5 and type devcommands. Every Valheim cheat for 1.0, the debug mode keys, item IDs and what cheats do to your achievements.

Valheim console commands still work in 1.0, but the rules changed with the full release. To use them on PC, turn on the developer console (in the gameplay settings or with the -console launch option), press F5, type devcommands and confirm the cheat prompt. Since Valheim 1.0 launched on September 9, 2026, most cheat commands mark your character, your world and any spawned items as cheated, and that blocks achievements unless you run Iron Gate’s opt-out command. This guide lists every command, the debug mode keys, the new 1.0 dev commands and what each one does to your save. Checked October 29, 2026 UTC against patch 1.0.21.

Quick answer

  • Open the console: enable the developer console in Settings > Gameplay, or add -console to Valheim’s Steam launch options. Then press F5 in game.
  • Turn on cheats: type devcommands and press Enter. Since 1.0 the game can ask you to confirm with confirmcheats before your save is flagged. Type devcommands again to switch cheats off.
  • Most used cheats: god, ghost, fly, debugmode (then B for free building), spawn [item] [amount], raiseskill all 100, exploremap, tod 0.5.
  • Achievements: most cheats lock the character and world out of achievements. Hotfix 1.0.12 added yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway to opt back in.
  • Where they work: cheat commands work in single-player and self-hosted games, not on dedicated servers. Server admins get a separate set of admin commands.

How to enable console commands in Valheim 1.0

The console has been off by default since Patch 0.221.4 (September 2025). According to Iron Gate’s patch notes on Steam, that patch added “the option in the settings menu to enable the developer console”, and the -console command-line argument overrides the setting. Both methods still work in 1.0.

Steam (Windows, Linux, Steam Deck)

  1. Start Valheim, open Settings > Gameplay and switch on the developer console. Or right-click Valheim in your Steam library, choose Properties, and type -console in Launch Options.
  2. Load your character and world.
  3. Press F5 to open the console.
  4. Type devcommands and press Enter. The game shows a warning about cheats. If it asks you to confirm, enter confirmcheats, and the cheat commands unlock.
  5. Type help to list every command your version supports. Help pages can be split, for example help 2 4 shows the second quarter of the list.

PC Game Pass and Microsoft Store

The Valheim Wiki says to make a desktop shortcut to Valheim.exe (usually in C:XboxGamesValheimContent), add -console to the end of the shortcut’s Target field, and launch the game from that shortcut. The in-game setting is the simpler route if your version shows it.

Xbox

The wiki lists holding LB + RB + Menu in game, then pressing A to bring up the keyboard. KeenGamer’s 1.0 guide lists LB + RB + LT + RT + Menu. If one combo does nothing, try the other. We found no official instructions for PlayStation 5 or Switch 2.

Do Valheim cheats disable achievements?

Yes, mostly. Valheim 1.0 added achievements (Dexerto counts more than 50), and Iron Gate’s official 1.0 FAQ explains the cheat flag. Here is how it works after the September and October patches:

Situation What happens Source
Most dev commands (for example spawn) The current character and world are flagged as cheated and locked out of achievements 1.0 FAQ
A few commands, such as freefly Exceptions: they don’t set the flag 1.0 FAQ
Characters that cheated before 1.0 Also flagged 1.0 FAQ
Spawned items Marked “cheated item” in the inventory tooltip 1.0 patch notes
A clean character picks up a cheated item Temporary cheat state; throw the cheated items out to become eligible again 1.0 FAQ
Hammer mode world modifier Counts as a temporary cheat 1.0 FAQ
yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway Opts a character blocked by devcommands or mods back into achievements (Steam on Sep 11, other platforms later) Hotfix 1.0.12
Items wrongly flagged by the 1.0 launch bug Cheated flag reset on all items and build pieces from earlier versions Patch 1.0.20 (Oct 15)

Iron Gate left the bypass to players’ conscience. In the hotfix notes it wrote: “We will leave it to your own judgement whether or not to activate this function – Oden will surely know if you use it dishonourably.” Patch 1.0.15 added that items changed by dev commands are no longer marked for characters that have turned the bypass on. If you want to cheat without risking your main save, KeenGamer suggests a separate test world.

Valheim cheat commands list (devcommands)

These need devcommands switched on. The descriptions follow the Valheim Wiki’s command table and Iron Gate’s patch notes. Text in brackets is a value you type, such as raiseskill swords 50.

The old cheat switch imacheater was renamed to devcommands in patch 0.148.6 (March 2021), so older guides that use it are out of date.

Valheim debug mode keys

Type devcommands, then debugmode. These keys then work in game:

Key Action
B Creative building: no workbench or materials needed
Z Fly (Space to rise, Ctrl to descend)
K Kill nearby enemies (tames are safe)
L Remove nearby item drops
Ctrl + middle mouse on the map Teleport to the cursor
Shift + C Set time to day

New dev commands in Valheim 1.0

The 1.0 patch notes name 19 new dev commands and say their descriptions are in the console’s help command. Iron Gate didn’t publish the syntax anywhere else, so the “what it does” column uses the command names and KeenGamer’s 1.0 list. Check help in game before you rely on one.

Command What it does
confirmcheats Confirms that you accept your character and world being marked as cheated
achievements / getstat Developer tools for achievements and tracked statistics
inventorysize [rows] Changes how many inventory rows you have (more slots, not more carry weight, per KeenGamer)
inventoryclean Cleans up inventory data
repairall Repairs your equipment
biomeinfo Shows information about the biome you’re in
findbiome / findbiometp Finds a biome / finds one and teleports you there (useful for reaching the Deep North)
altbiomes Tools for alternate biome variants
haslocation Checks whether the world has a given location
snow Snow tools for the Deep North’s snow cover
updatecover Recalculates cover (shelter) values
height Height tools
cinematic / cinematicsleep Cinematic camera tools
clearpopups Clears pop-up messages from the screen
resetbuildui Resets the building menu (the 1.0 hammer menu was overhauled)
pevents Persistent events tool; only works with devcommands on since patch 1.0.14

Valheim spawn item IDs

The syntax is spawn [ItemName] [Amount] [Level]. Names aren’t case sensitive, and items spawn one at a time, so very large numbers can freeze the game. Common IDs from the wiki’s Item IDs list:

Item Spawn ID Example
Wood / Fine wood / Core wood Wood / FineWood / RoundLog spawn Wood 50
Stone Stone spawn Stone 50
Coins Coins spawn Coins 500
Copper / Tin / Bronze Copper / Tin / Bronze spawn Bronze 20
Iron / Silver / Black metal Iron / Silver / BlackMetal spawn Iron 30
Flametal / Flametal ore Flametalnew / FlametalOreNew spawn Flametalnew 20
Surtling core / Resin / Refined eitr SurtlingCore / Resin / Eitr spawn SurtlingCore 10
Troll (creature) Troll spawn Troll 1 3 (two stars)
Eikthyr (boss) Eikthyr spawn Eikthyr

Deep North items such as Draumyx and Grimvarn weren’t on the wiki’s ID list when we checked. Type spawn and a few letters, then press Tab to autocomplete, or end a name with * to spawn every entity whose ID contains it.

Player commands that don’t need cheats

These work without devcommands, and many work from the chat window too. They don’t flag your save.

  • fov [number], maxfps [number], lodbias [1-7], exclusivefullscreen: display settings.
  • bind [key] [command], unbind, printbinds, resetbinds: bind commands or emotes to keys.
  • sortcraft and filtercraft [text]: sort or filter crafting lists.
  • resetspawn, resetsharedmap, resetknownitems, tutorialreset: reset your spawn point, shared map, known recipes or tutorials.

Valheim admin commands for servers

Admin commands only work if your SteamID64 or crossplay ID is on the server’s admin list. Cheats like god or spawn don’t run on a dedicated server, even for admins.

Command What it does
kick [name/IP/ID] / ban / unban / banned Remove, ban, unban or list banned players
save Saves the world (and, since 0.213.4, your character file)
setworldpreset [name] / setworldmodifier [name] [value] / resetworldkeys Change or reset world modifiers
randomevent / stopevent Available to all admins since 0.217.11

Valheim console commands not working?

  • F5 does nothing: the console is off. Turn it on in the gameplay settings or add -console, then restart the game.
  • “Unknown command” or nothing happens: you haven’t run devcommands yet, or you didn’t confirm with confirmcheats.
  • Works solo but not on your server: cheat commands don’t work on dedicated servers. Host the world from the game instead, or play single player.
  • Old command names: imacheater no longer exists. Use devcommands.
  • Mods: Iron Gate’s FAQ says Valheim has no official mod support, so console mods may break after a patch. The latest is 1.0.21 (October 28), and its notes list no command changes.

FAQ

How do I turn on cheats in Valheim?

Enable the developer console in the gameplay settings (or add -console to the Steam launch options), press F5 in game, type devcommands, and confirm the cheat prompt.

Does using devcommands disable achievements in Valheim?

Most commands do. They flag your character and world, and spawned items are marked as cheated. A few, such as freefly, are exceptions. The command yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway from hotfix 1.0.12 lets a flagged character earn achievements again.

How do I fly in Valheim?

Turn on devcommands, then type fly, or enter debugmode and press Z. Space takes you up and Ctrl brings you down.

Do Valheim console commands work on a dedicated server?

Cheat commands don’t. Admins on the server’s admin list can use admin commands like kick, ban, save and the world modifier commands.

How do I teleport in Valheim with commands?

Use pos to read coordinates and goto [x] [z] to jump there. You can also open the map in debugmode and press Ctrl + middle mouse. In 1.0, findbiometp takes you to a biome.
