The Elder Scrolls 6 finally has its name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda revealed the subtitle on November 3 at the end of a video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios, more than eight years after it first teased the game. There is still no release date, no platform list and no gameplay breakdown.

Elder Scrolls 6 name: what Bethesda announced
The reveal came in two videos on the official Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel: Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios, posted at 14:59 UTC, and a short clip titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Official Name Reveal. Minutes later, Xbox Wire editor-in-chief Joe Skrebels published the logo under the same headline on Xbox Wire, along with a second post, Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios. Both posts carry only the artwork and the tag “The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel”.
In the anniversary video, Todd Howard looks back at the studio’s games and the teams that made them, then turns to what comes next. According to VGC’s transcript, he says the studio is “looking forward to all we’re doing, particularly with the Fallout franchise and obviously The Elder Scrolls,” adding: “everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.” The logo follows.
The video’s YouTube description reads: “For 40 years, we’ve explored new worlds, told unforgettable stories, and gone on incredible adventures together.” It ends with “Here’s to 40 more.”
The teaser quote points to Hammerfell
The name reveal closes on an in-world quote, reported identically by Gematsu and Eurogamer: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” It is attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell.
In series lore, Sentinel is a Redguard city and the capital of the kingdom of Sentinel in Hammerfell, according to UESP. Bethesda itself has not said where the game is set or what its story covers.

How this compares with last week’s report
On October 29, The Verge’s Tom Warren reported that the game would be called Sentinel and that Bethesda could name it in November. We covered that in The Elder Scrolls 6 ‘Sentinel’: What the Report Says. The official title matches the reported name. The report’s other claims about the setting and story are still not confirmed by Bethesda.
The game was first shown as a short title card in The Elder Scrolls VI – Official Announcement Teaser at E3 2018. Today’s reveal lands in the month Skyrim turns 15. If you’re going back to Tamriel while you wait, our Skyrim console commands list and our look back at Patrick Stewart’s Oblivion role are good places to start. For Bethesda’s other big RPG, see our Starfield console commands.
What’s next
Bethesda hasn’t said when it will show more of Sentinel, and Xbox hasn’t announced platforms or a date. We will update this post when Bethesda shares a trailer, release window or platform list. For the bigger picture at Xbox, see our breakdown of Xbox’s latest quarterly earnings.
