The biggest new Switch 2 games this week are Minecraft‘s native Switch 2 version and Village in the Shade, both out on Tuesday, October 27, followed by Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition on October 28 and Hello Kitty Party Land on October 29. Minecraft costs $29.99, but if you already own the Switch 1 game digitally, Nintendo says the Switch 2 Standard Edition is free until the end of January 2027.
We checked every game’s US Nintendo eShop page for its release date, price and download size, and noted which ones carry over from Switch 1. Last week’s list is new Switch 2 games for October 19-25.

Minecraft on Switch 2: is the upgrade free?
Yes, if you own the Switch 1 game digitally. The Switch 2 eShop listing says digital Switch owners can get the Switch 2 Standard Edition for free, or the Deluxe or Ultimate Collection at a discount, until January 31, 2027. Nintendo’s announcement says the free offer applies “in most territories”. Neither page offers anything for owners of a physical Switch copy. On Switch 2 you get Vibrant Visuals, the game’s new lighting and shadow mode, and every edition includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. You can also bring your Switch 1 worlds with you. One catch from the listing: Vibrant Visuals doesn’t work in split-screen.
Cities: Skylines gets a bigger map on Switch 2
The Expanded Edition is the week’s best pick for strategy players. Paradox lists 10 DLC expansions and content packs in the $49.99 price, and Tantalus Media adapted the game for Switch 2. The upgrades are real ones: 25 buildable tiles instead of 9, a map editor, keyboard and mouse support, and a choice between a 60 fps Performance option and a 30 fps Quality option. It’s worth your time if you’ve wanted a full city builder you can play handheld.

Cozy and spooky picks for Halloween week
- Village in the Shade (October 27) is NIS America’s farming sim with a horror side. It’s sold as separate Switch and Switch 2 versions, both $49.99.
- Fangtopia (October 26) is a relaxing tile-laying puzzle game with a “scare-free” spooky theme and three modes, per its store page.
- A Tower Full of Cats (October 28, $5.99) is a hidden-object game with over 1,400 cats to find.
- The Séance of Blake Manor (October 27) from Raw Fury is a supernatural detective mystery set in 1897 Ireland, in the days before All Hallow’s Eve. It’s a good fit for the week.

Hello Kitty Party Land: buy the right version
Bandai Namco’s party game has 45+ minigames, 16 playable Sanrio characters and online play for up to four. The Switch 2 listing warns that the Switch version is sold separately, there’s no upgrade pack, and save data doesn’t transfer between the two. STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT has the same split. If you play on Switch 2, buy the Switch 2 version. Pre-orders of Hello Kitty Party Land include an avatar T-shirt bonus.

Also this week
Frog Sqwad ($7.99) supports online co-op for up to eight players. SULFUR is a roguelike shooter with cooking. Joe & Mac Retro Collection bundles three Super NES-era Joe & Mac games. On October 27, three games join Game Boy – Nintendo Classics. Some older lists still show two games that aren’t coming this week. The Switch version of The Wolf Among Us Remastered was delayed with no new date. And the eShop now lists Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy for December 3.
