Has GTA 6 been delayed before? The full timeline
Yes, twice. Both delays came straight from Rockstar, and Take-Two published each one in an official press release the same day. That matters for spotting fake delay claims, which comes up below.

The first delay: fall 2025 to May 26, 2026
On May 2, 2025, Rockstar posted: “Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.” Take-Two’s press release that day said the game “was expected to launch in Fall of 2025”. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company would “support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision”.
The second delay: May 26 to November 19, 2026
Six months later, on November 6, 2025, Rockstar posted: “Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.” The studio added: “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect”. Take-Two’s quarterly results the same day carried the headline “Grand Theft Auto VI now launching November 19, 2026”. Zelnick said Take-Two remained “both excited and confident” in Rockstar.
Is GTA 6 delayed to 2027? What Take-Two has said since
No. Since the November 2025 delay, Take-Two has repeated the November 19 date in every official update. None of them mentions 2027 or 2028 for the game.

What happens next: November 9 and November 10
Two official dates come before launch, and both will show whether everything is still on track.
- Monday, November 9: Take-Two reports its second-quarter fiscal 2027 results after the market closes. Its October 13 notice puts the call at 4:30 pm ET (9:30 pm UTC). This is the publisher’s last scheduled public update before launch. The second delay was announced on a results day, so this is the date to watch. We’ll update this page after the release.
- Tuesday, November 10: pre-load opens. PlayStation says it starts at “November 10 local midnight” for pre-orders, with at least 212GB of free space needed. After that, the next date is launch itself: midnight local time on November 19. The US store listings use one timestamp, 05:00 UTC, which is 12 am ET on November 19 and 9 pm PT on November 18. Our GTA 6 release time and pre-load guide has the full time-zone table.
How to tell if a GTA 6 delay rumor is real
Fake “GTA 6 delayed” posts spread fast, especially in the weeks before a launch. Both real delays had the same official trail, so check for it before believing a new claim:
- Rockstar posts it itself on its official channels. Both earlier delays were posted on its X account, @RockstarGames.
- Take-Two publishes a press release on its investor relations site. It did this the same day for both delays.
- The store dates change. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings would move off November 19.
If a claim has none of these, such as a screenshot, an “insider” post or a video title, treat it as a rumor. As of this check, all three show November 19.
