The count is by calendar date, and the game unlocks at midnight local time, so for most players launch starts at the very beginning of November 19. The US and Canadian store listings are the exception: they carry one timestamp, midnight Eastern, which works out to 9 pm PT on November 18. What happens on each date before GTA 6 launches
These are the official dates from Rockstar Games, PlayStation and Xbox, plus one from Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company. Each entry links to where the date comes from.
Monday, November 9: Xbox pre-load starts early in the Americas, Take-Two earnings
Xbox pre-loading starts at the same moment everywhere: 00:00 GMT on November 10. In North America that falls on Monday evening, at 7 pm ET, 6 pm CT, 5 pm MT and 4 pm PT on November 9, according to the regional times Pure Xbox listed from Rockstar’s announcement. Xbox Wire shared the same Rockstar Newswire post on November 3.
The same day, Take-Two holds its second-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call at 9:30 pm UTC (4:30 pm ET), per Take-Two’s investor relations page. Earnings calls are not game announcements, but it is the publisher’s last scheduled public update before launch.
Tuesday, November 10: digital pre-load day
This is the big one before launch. Rockstar’s Newswire post moved digital pre-loading to November 10, two days earlier than the November 12 date in its June pre-order announcement:
- PS5: pre-download opens “starting at November 10 local midnight” for players who pre-ordered, says the PlayStation Blog’s November 3 post, which also tells players to clear at least 212 GB.
- Xbox Series X|S: pre-install begins globally at 00:00 GMT on November 10. That is 1 am CET in central Europe, 9 am JST in Japan and 11 am AEDT in Sydney, per Pure Xbox’s list.
- Rockstar Store: its GTA 6 page now shows “Pre-load begins November 10, 2026” on the digital editions (checked November 4, 2026, 19:05 UTC).
Rockstar puts the download at up to 212 GB and says the figure can vary by console. One timing point to know: PlayStation’s refund rules say “if you have started to download the main part of the order, you will not be able to request a refund”, and auto-downloads count. Settle on an edition before November 10.
Thursday, November 12: code-in-box physical copies
There is no game disc. The physical version contains a download code, and Rockstar’s June 24 pre-order press release says it “will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading”. The Rockstar Store lists November 12 as its estimated shipping date and says orders placed after launch ship in about 1-7 days. Wednesday, November 18 to Thursday, November 19: launch
Both console stores list GTA 6 for midnight local time on November 19, and Pure Xbox reports that Rockstar confirmed the release time as “midnight local time”. The main times:
- US and Canada: 12:00 am ET on November 19, which is 9:00 pm PT on November 18 (one store timestamp, 05:00 UTC)
- UK: 12:00 am GMT on November 19
- Germany and France: 12:00 am CET on November 19
- India: 12:00 am IST on November 19
- Australia: 12:00 am AEDT on November 19

On launch day, Rockstar also adds a free printable poster of the cover art and a map of Leonida. In Rockstar’s words, quoted by Push Square: “On November 19 we will be adding an official printable Grand Theft Auto VI cover art poster and map of Leonida as a free digital download to the official site.” A double-sided printed version follows “shortly after launch” on the Rockstar Store for $0.99.

Friday, November 20: Vintage Vice City Pack cut-off
One date falls after launch. Rockstar’s pre-order announcement says “all Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026” include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+.
