GTA 5 cheats work three ways. On PS5, PS4 and Xbox you enter a button combination during play. On every platform, including PC, you can also dial a 1-999 number on the in-game phone. On PC you can type a word into the cheat console as well. There are 36 Story Mode cheats in all. They cover invincibility, health and armor, weapons, wanted level, physics tricks and 14 vehicles, and the same codes work on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
Two things to know first. There is no money cheat, and a cheat switches off Trophies and Achievements for the rest of that game session. Rockstar Support’s website didn’t load for us on November 5, 2026, so every code below was checked that day against four established references: GamesRadar+ (updated October 13, 2026), PC Gamer (updated July 1, 2026), PCGamesN and the GTA Wiki (Fandom, “Cheats in GTA V” page). Where they disagree, we say so.
Table of Contents
Quick answer: the GTA 5 cheats people use most
- Invincibility: PAINKILLER on PC, or dial 1-999-7246-545-537. It lasts five minutes, according to the GTA Wiki and PCGamesN.
- Max health and armor: TURTLE, or 1-999-887-853
- All weapons and ammo: TOOLUP, or 1-999-866-587
- Lose the cops: LAWYERUP, or 1-999-5299-3787. Each use removes one wanted star.
- Super jump: HOPTOIT, or 1-999-467-8648
- Attack helicopter: BUZZOFF, or 1-999-2899-633
- Money: there isn’t a cheat for it. GamesRadar+, PC Gamer and PCGamesN all confirm this.
- Catch: cheats are Story Mode only, and they block Trophies and Achievements until you restart the game.
How to enter cheats in GTA 5 (PS5, PS4, Xbox and PC)
Button codes on PlayStation and Xbox
- Load a Story Mode save and get into free roam. On a new save, PC Gamer says that’s after the opening mission, once you’re playing as Franklin.
- Press the buttons in the order listed, without long pauses. In the tables, Left, Right, Up and Down mean the D-pad.
- A notification in the corner of the screen confirms the cheat (GamesRadar+). You can also enter codes from the pause menu. The GTA Wiki says the cheat then switches on when you unpause.
- To turn off an ongoing effect, enter the same code again. Slow motion and the weather cheat work differently: they step to the next setting each time you enter them.
Phone number cheats (all platforms)
- Press Up on the D-pad, or the up arrow key on PC, to bring up the phone.
- Open Contacts and press the keypad button. PC Gamer lists this as Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox and Spacebar on PC.
- Dial the number and press the same button again to call.
Every number is 1-999 followed by the cheat’s PC word spelled out on a phone keypad, so 1-999-887-853 spells TURTLE. The game doesn’t store cheats you’ve dialled, so redial when an effect wears off. The GTA Wiki notes that phone cheats don’t exist on the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
PC cheat console
Press the key to the left of 1 (~ on US keyboards, ¬ on UK keyboards) to open the cheat box. Type the word, such as PAINKILLER, and press Enter. PCGamesN and PC Gamer both describe this method.

Do GTA 5 cheats disable trophies and achievements?
Yes, but only for the current game session. GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer both say a cheat disables Trophies and Achievements. The GTA Wiki adds that, unlike in GTA 4, they aren’t disabled permanently. It says that’s why an autosave made while a cheat is on doesn’t cause problems. What cheats switch off or limit:
- Trophies and Achievements: can’t be earned until you quit and restart the game.
- Mission medals: PC Gamer says you can’t get more than a Bronze rating on a mission while cheating. The GTA Wiki says a cheat entered during a mission rules out 100% on that mission.
- During missions: PC Gamer says cheats only work outside missions. The GTA Wiki says some are blocked in missions.
- GTA Online: none of these cheats work there (PC Gamer, PCGamesN).
Cheats won’t stop you reaching 100% game completion and won’t corrupt a save, according to the GTA Wiki. GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer still suggest making a separate manual save before you experiment, so you have a clean one to go back to. Reloading a save also turns active cheats off (GTA Wiki).
Is there a money cheat in GTA 5?
No. GamesRadar+, PC Gamer and PCGamesN all say there’s no money cheat in Story Mode, and GTA Online has no cheats at all. GamesRadar+ explains why: the in-game economy is central to the story. Anything sold as a GTA 5 money cheat is a mod menu or an exploit, and we don’t cover those.
All 36 GTA 5 cheats: PC codes and phone numbers

| Director Mode | JRTALENT | 1-999-5782-5368 | Opens Director Mode |
| Black cellphone | Phone only | 1-999-367-3767 | Sets off an explosion nearby |
The sources split on two numbers. For drunk mode, the GTA Wiki and PCGamesN give 1-999-547-867, which is what LIQUOR spells on a phone keypad, while GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer print 1-999-547-861. For fast run, the wiki and PCGamesN give 1-999-228-2463 (CATCHME on the keypad), while GamesRadar+ and PC Gamer print 1-999-2288-463. If one doesn’t work, try the other, or use the button code or the PC word.

Vehicles to unlock first: the Kraken needs the Wildlife Photography Challenge, the Dodo needs the Sea Plane random event and the Duke O’Death needs the Duel random event. PC Gamer and the GTA Wiki agree on all three. PCGamesN ties the Dodo and Duke O’Death to story missions instead. PC Gamer adds that vehicle cheats only work while you’re standing, usually outdoors, with enough space around you.

GTA 5 cheats not working? Common fixes
- Are you in a mission? Some cheats are blocked during missions. Try again in free roam.
- Weapon cheats: explosive bullets, flaming bullets and bullet time need a gun in your hands. Explosive melee needs empty hands.
- Vehicle won’t appear: stand still outdoors with space around you, and unlock the Dodo, Kraken or Duke O’Death first.
- Skyfall does nothing: in the newer enhanced versions, the GTA Wiki says Skyfall won’t work while super jump is on.
- Phone number fails: check the digits against the table. For drunk mode and fast run, try the second number or use the button code.
- Invincibility wore off: it lasts five minutes and ends when you switch characters. Enter it again.
- GTA Online: no cheats work there.
If you play GTA 5 through PS Plus, it’s on our list of games leaving PS Plus in November 2026 (November 17, according to Sony’s in-console notice).
