How to enter cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox)
We found no Rockstar Support article or Newswire post that lists RDR2’s cheats. The system lives inside the game itself, where the codes appear as taglines in newspapers and as messages hidden around the world. The steps are the same in every version:
- Load your Story Mode save and open the pause menu (Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox).
- Go to Settings. A Cheats prompt sits in the bottom-right corner.
- Press Triangle or Y (on PC, the key shown in that prompt) to open the Cheats list.
- Press it again to open the text box, type the phrase and confirm.
- The cheat is added to your list. From then on you just toggle it on or off from the same screen, without typing it again.
PowerPyx and Push Square give the Triangle and Y button steps. GamesRadar+ and PCGamesN describe the bottom-right Cheats prompt. Those guides were written for PS4 and Xbox One, but the same buttons apply when you play on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Do cheats disable achievements and saving in RDR2?
Yes. Every guide we checked says the same thing: with a cheat active, you can’t earn Trophies or Achievements and the game won’t save your progress. GamesRadar+ says autosaving is disabled, and PC Gamer and PCGamesN say saving stops altogether. The guides don’t fully agree on when saving comes back, so play it safe:
- Make a manual save in a spare slot before you activate anything, and keep your main story save untouched.
- GamesRadar+ suggests typing in every phrase you want first, then saving manually to keep them on your list, and only then switching cheats on.
- PCGamesN advises using them at the end of a play session, not before a stretch of story progress you want to keep.
- To carry on legitimately, load your clean save.
Cheats are a Story Mode feature for Arthur’s campaign. None of the guides lists any cheat for Red Dead Online, and we don’t cover Online exploits, money glitches, trainers or mod menus. Those break Rockstar’s terms.

PowerPyx’s list names the guns in each set. Basic is the Cattleman Revolver, Lancaster Repeater and Springfield Rifle. Gunslinger is the Schofield Revolver, Double-Action Revolver and Double-Barrel Shotgun. Stealth is the bow, fire bottles, tomahawk, throwing knives and machete. PowerPyx also notes that Eat of knowledge teaches the recipes, but you still need the ingredients to craft anything.

These 8 cheats stay locked until you’ve bought the newspaper that prints them, even if you already know the phrase. The story points come from GamesRadar+, PC Gamer and PCGamesN, which all agree. The issue numbers come from PCGamesN.

The issue numbers differ between guides. PowerPyx’s 2018 list also names Blackwater Ledger issues, such as No. 65 for the heavy weapons and No. 66 for the map, and it ties a few cheats to different story missions. Go by the story point, then buy whatever’s current at the nearest stand. The same 2018 list prints the map cheat as “You long for sight but see nothing”. The newer guides, and Push Square, all give “and see nothing”, so use that.

Where to buy and read newspapers in RDR2
- Where to buy: newspaper sellers in Valentine, Rhodes, Blackwater, Strawberry and Annesburg (Push Square), plus Saint Denis. PC Gamer pairs them up like this: the New Hanover Gazette in Annesburg and Valentine, the Saint Denis Times in Rhodes and Saint Denis, and the Blackwater Ledger in Strawberry and Blackwater.
- How to read one: open your satchel, go to Documents, then Newspapers (Push Square). Pick a paper, flip it over and zoom in on the bottom. The cheat is the short tagline under one of the stories (GamesRadar+).
- Tip: papers are cheap, so GamesRadar+ suggests buying every new issue as the story moves on. Some codes also turn up as messages in the world, such as carvings and graffiti.
Is there a god mode cheat in RDR2?
No. None of the 37 phrases makes Arthur invincible. The closest you can get is combining Be greedy only for foresight (infinite Dead Eye), The lucky be strong evermore (infinite stamina), Seek all the bounty of this place (bigger meters) and You flourish before you die (instant refill), which you can re-enter mid-fight. Infinite ammo needs the Chapter 1 paper. Anything sold as a true “god mode” is a trainer or mod menu, not part of the game.
RDR2 cheats not working? Common fixes
- Check the punctuation. “Vanity. All is vanity” needs the full stop, “Run! Run! Run!” needs all three exclamation marks, and the circus wagon code ends with a question mark.
- Is it a newspaper cheat? The 8 codes in the newspaper table do nothing until you’ve bought that paper.
- Toggle it on. Typing a phrase adds it to your list. Check that it’s switched on in the same screen.
- Re-enter one-shot cheats. Money and refills happen once per entry. Enter Greed is now a virtue again for another $500.
- Red Dead Online: the cheats are Story Mode only.
