Nintendo says more Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 consoles are coming but has no dates. It’s out of stock at Nintendo; Best Buy has units Nov 5.

Nintendo says a Zelda Switch 2 restock is coming, but it has no date yet. With the console nine days from its October 29 launch, the $519.99 Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition was still listed as out of stock on Nintendo’s US store when we checked on October 20 at 06:54 UTC. So far the only dated chance to buy one is Best Buy’s midnight launch event for Ocarina of Time on November 5.

Here’s exactly what Nintendo has said, where each US retailer stands, and how to give yourself the best shot.

What Nintendo said about the Zelda Switch 2 restock

The comments come from Bill van Zyll, Nintendo’s vice president and general manager for Latin America, in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão recorded at Brasil Game Show 2026. Nintendo Everything transcribed it on October 17, and GamesRadar+ and Nintendo Life followed on October 19.

  • Demand: “We underestimated how well it would be received,” van Zyll said, calling the shortage “a global phenomenon” and naming the United States as one of the markets that stood out.
  • Restocks: “We are working on replenishments of the special hardware and the software, but it’ll take a little bit of time.”
  • Dates and quantities: Asked directly whether the anniversary console would be restocked, he said yes, but “I can’t tell you dates right now” and “I can’t tell you quantities right now.” He said the plan covers the special controller, the hardware and the software.

That is a confirmation of intent, not a schedule. Nintendo hasn’t said whether new units arrive before October 29, at launch, or later in the holiday season.

Where to buy the Zelda Switch 2: retailer status

We checked the listings we could load on October 20 between 06:50 and 07:05 UTC. Stock can change within minutes, so treat this as a snapshot.

Retailer (US) Status when checked (Oct 20, UTC) Notes
Nintendo Store Out of stock (06:54) $519.99, ships from Oct 29. The matching Pro Controller ($99.99) is also out of stock, and the carrying case and the store-exclusive controller-and-stand set can’t be ordered either.
Best Buy (in store) Restock dated: Nov 5, midnight ET “Limited numbers” of the console and Pro Controller at select stores during the Ocarina of Time late-night opening; “no rainchecks”
Amazon Not found (06:55) The console didn’t show up in an Amazon US search
Target, Walmart, GameStop No restock date announced We couldn’t confirm live stock; drops at these stores have not been announced in advance

The Nintendo Store listing still sends shoppers to other stores through a “Find retailers” button. For what’s in the box and how the price compares with other Switch 2 bundles, see our Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 price and bundle guide.

Best Buy’s November 5 midnight launch

According to Best Buy’s event page, select stores open at midnight ET on Thursday, November 5 (9 p.m. PT on November 4) for the launch of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. Participating stores will have limited numbers of the anniversary console and Pro Controller. Its store finder shows whether your local store takes part. If you already pre-ordered Ocarina for shipping and want to pick it up at the event instead, Best Buy says you need to change the order by November 3 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

How to improve your chances

  • Watch the Nintendo Store and Best Buy. Stock tracker The Shortcut names them as the two US retailers it’s confident will get more units, and expects Walmart, Target and Amazon to follow at some point.
  • Save your payment and address details at each retailer now. The first pre-order wave sold out almost as soon as it went live.
  • Don’t pay scalper prices. The list price is $519.99, and Nintendo has said more units are on the way.

Ocarina of Time itself is easier to get. It was still open for pre-order on the Nintendo Store at $59.99 digital or $69.99 physical when we checked at 06:57 UTC. Our look at the Dark Link ad covers the latest footage, and the other launches this week are in new Switch 2 games this week.

What’s next

The Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition launches on October 29, and Ocarina of Time follows on November 5 with Best Buy’s midnight event. Nintendo has promised more consoles, controllers and games but hasn’t shared dates or quantities. We’ll update this post when Nintendo or a major US retailer announces a restock date.
