The best Two Point Hospital tips come down to five habits: build only the rooms your patients need, keep those rooms near their minimum size, staff every room with someone who has a break covered, keep diagnosis certainty high before treatment, and borrow only for rooms that will pay for themselves. Below are the numbers behind each habit: minimum room sizes and build prices, loan rates, the reputation hit for every bad outcome, and the staff traits worth hiring.
Figures come from the Two Point Hospital wiki (Fandom), which the official Two Point County community hub links as the game’s wiki. Tips from dated guides by GamesRadar, PC Gamer, Game Rant, TheGamer and Gamepressure are credited where they appear. Everything applies to the PC version and to the Full Health Collection on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2.

Quick answer: the Two Point Hospital tips that matter most
- Start with the basics: a reception desk, GP’s Office, Pharmacy, Staff Room and Toilets, then one doctor, nurse, assistant and janitor (GamesRadar’s starting list). Add more rooms only when patients show up who need them.
- Keep rooms small: most early rooms need just 3×3 tiles. Raise prestige with decorations rather than floor space.
- Money: diagnosis and treatment fees are your income, and patients pay even when a treatment fails. Loans run from $25,000 at 5% to $250,000 at 15%. You get a warning at -$150,000 and go bankrupt at -$300,000.
- Staff: hire more staff than you have rooms so breaks don’t stall queues. Lock specialists to their rooms in the Jobs tab.
- Cures: leave the diagnosis threshold at 90% or higher. Put your best staff in treatment rooms and keep janitors on machine maintenance.
What to build first in Two Point Hospital
GamesRadar’s beginner advice is to open with the core set and then watch. That means a reception desk, GP’s Office, Pharmacy, Staff Room and Toilets, plus one doctor, one nurse, one assistant and one janitor. From there you build whatever the queues ask for. General Diagnosis and the Ward also unlock in Hogsport, the first hospital. They’re the cheapest way to raise diagnosis certainty before patients reach treatment.
Don’t buy the shiny room just because research unlocked it. TheGamer’s guide warns against building a DNA Lab or other specialist room before any patient needs it, because it costs more to build and run than it earns. The game tells you when a patient arrives with an illness you can’t treat yet, so build the room then.
Once you have a room layout you like, save it. Room Templates arrived on PC in version 1.21 (July 2020, per the wiki’s patch list) and on consoles in a free update. Two Point Studios’ guide explains the steps. Select the room, open the Templates tab and pick Save Template. In your next hospital, go to Rooms, then Templates, and place it in one go.

Two Point Hospital room sizes and build costs
This is the table most players are actually looking for. Each size is the minimum floor plan the game accepts, and each price is the base cost from that room’s wiki page. You can always build bigger, and the wiki notes that larger rooms gain prestige. Required items such as the GP’s desk or the Pharmacy counter are part of each room’s setup.
| Room | Minimum size | Build price | Staff | First unlocked at |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GP’s Office | 3×3 | $5,800 | Doctor | Hogsport |
| General Diagnosis | 3×3 | $7,100 | Nurse | Hogsport |
| Pharmacy | 3×3 | $7,600 | Nurse | Hogsport |
| Ward | 3×4 | $7,600 | Nurse | Hogsport |
| De-Lux Clinic | 3×3 | $21,100 | Doctor | Hogsport |
| Staff Room | 2×3 | $5,100 | All staff (breaks) | Hogsport |
| Toilets | 2×3 | $5,600 | Everyone | Hogsport |
| Psychiatry | 3×3 | $6,100 | Doctor with Psychiatry | Lower Bullocks |
| Cardiology | 3×3 | $7,600 | Nurse | Lower Bullocks |
| Training | 3×3 | $7,000 | Any trainer | Flottering |
| Clown Clinic | 4×4 | $20,100 | Nurse | Flottering |
| Fluid Analysis | 3×3 | $20,100 | Nurse | Mitton University |
| Injection Room | 3×3 | $15,100 | Nurse | Mitton University |
| Chromatherapy | 3×4 | $21,100 | Nurse | Mitton University |
| X-Ray | 4×4 | $31,100 | Doctor | Mitton University |
| Research | 3×4 | $35,100 | Doctor with Research | Mitton University |
| M.E.G.A Scan | 4×4 | $60,100 | Doctor | Mitton University |
| Fracture Ward | 3×4 | $13,600 | Nurse | Tumble |
| Marketing | 3×4 | $7,100 | Assistant with Marketing | Flemington |
| Café | 4×5 | $7,600 | Assistant | Flemington |
| Surgery | 3×4 | $26,000 | Doctor with Surgery + Nurse | Smogley |
| Shock Clinic | 4×4 | $30,100 | Doctor | Melt Downs |
| DNA Lab | 3×4 | $50,100 | Doctor | Melt Downs |
Two rows to plan around early: the Training room arrives in Flottering, and Mitton University is where Research, X-Ray and the M.E.G.A Scan open up. The wiki says DLC rooms reach much larger footprints, for example 5×6 for Urban Mythology (Bigfoot) and 9×5 for the Escape Room (Pebberley Island).
How to make money in Two Point Hospital
Your steady income is fees. Every diagnosis visit and every treatment has a charge, and according to the wiki, a treatment still earns money even when it fails or the patient dies. Diagnosis fees climb with the equipment, so a well-used high-tech room earns more per visit:
| Diagnosis room | Fee per visit (default) |
|---|---|
| GP’s Office | $500 |
| General Diagnosis | $750 |
| Cardiology / Psychiatry | $1,000 |
| Fluid Analysis | $1,200 |
| Ward / X-Ray | $2,000 |
| DNA Lab | $5,000 |
| M.E.G.A Scan | $5,500 |
More ways to get cash in, and stop it leaking out:
- Prices: each hospital starts at the local market rate. Raising prices brings in more money but, per the wiki, can hurt reputation and make patients storm out. Game Rant suggests a small rise from the start of a level, since most patients won’t notice. Raise in small steps and watch the Prices part of your reputation.
- Vending machines and shops: PC Gamer’s tip is to put snack machines next to drink machines. Patients spend money while they wait.
- Challenges and emergencies: GamesRadar recommends accepting challenges, which pay cash and Kudosh and raise reputation. Emergencies pay in cash, Kudosh and reputation if you cure enough of the group in time. The wiki warns that curing fewer than half costs you reputation instead.
- Don’t expand early: extra plots cost money that rooms could use. GamesRadar advises buying land only when you need the space for a bigger room.
- Speed up when stable: with queues under control, fast-forward to work through patients and bank the fees faster (GamesRadar).
Loans come from three lenders in the Finance tab. Repayments come out automatically each month, and you can pay off the balance early. The wiki lists:
| Lender | Amount | Interest | Term |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two Point Bank | $25,000-$50,000 | 5% a year | 24 months ($1,097-$2,194/month) |
| Swindles | $75,000-$100,000 | 10% a year | 24 months ($3,461-$4,615/month) |
| $MC (Smell My Cash) | $150,000-$250,000 | 15% a year | 36 months ($5,200-$8,667/month) |
The biggest lender has entry requirements. The wiki lists a $500,000 hospital value, reputation 25 and hospital level 2, while Gamepressure’s 2018 guide says level 5. Check the Loans panel in your own game. Gamepressure also warns that a loan spent on rooms nobody uses can sink a hospital, because staff wages are your biggest cost and you can’t hire while in debt. If things go badly, the game warns you at -$150,000 and declares bankruptcy at -$300,000. For the same money logic in the newer game, see our Two Point Museum money guide.

Two Point Hospital layout tips
- Minimum rooms, decorated: GamesRadar and Game Rant both say to keep rooms at minimum size and raise prestige with posters, plants and Kudosh decorations. GamesRadar suggests reaching at least Prestige Level 3 in every room. TheGamer says going slightly above minimum helps too. The wiki confirms both items and size raise a room’s prestige (1 to 5), and high-prestige rooms make staff and patients happier.
- Corridors two tiles wide: GamesRadar recommends corridors at least two tiles wide so people don’t bump into each other and slow down.
- Follow the patient’s path: Game Rant’s tip is to build in the order patients use rooms, leading them from reception toward diagnosis and treatment, so walking time and queues stay short.
- Seats, bins, toilets: if patients stand in queues, add benches. If litter piles up, add bins. If there are “accidents”, build more toilets (GamesRadar).
- Temperature: the wiki splits hospitals into temperate, cold and hot climates. GamesRadar says small heaters or air-con units are enough for 3×3 rooms, so save the big units for wards and corridors.
- Edit with care: the wiki notes that editing a room’s blueprint while it’s in use kicks out every patient and staff member inside. Placing new items doesn’t need blueprint mode.

Staff tips: hiring, traits and breaks
GamesRadar’s key staff tip is to hire more staff than you have rooms, so someone can cover each break without leaving a queue stuck. Use the Jobs tab to keep trained specialists in their rooms and keep less qualified staff out. The Break Policy in the Overview screen sets how many of each staff type can rest at once and for how long, from 10 to 30 days.
Traits can’t be changed after hiring, so read the Employment Reference before you hire. Each staff member has one to three. The wiki lists these effects:
| Hire these | Effect | Avoid these | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast Learner | +50% experience and training speed | Stupid | -25% experience and training speed |
| Teacher | +50% teaching speed | Lazy | Works about 22 days less between breaks |
| Tireless | Works about 33 days longer between breaks | Weak Bladder | Toilet need drops 5x as fast |
| Motivated | +20% movement speed | Unmotivated | -20% movement speed |
| Cheap | -10% salary | Expensive | +10% salary |
| Healer (doctors, nurses) | +5 patient health per visit | Evil | -5 patient health per visit |
Better applicants come with size. The wiki says a level 1 hospital shows 3 applicants per job type, rising to 4 at level 5, 5 at level 10 and 6 at level 15. Qualifications are the other half of staff quality. Our guide on how to train staff in Two Point Hospital lists every qualification, its training cost and the best picks for each staff type, so we won’t repeat that here. The short version: a qualified employee teaches for free, while a Guest Trainer costs $10,000 plus a fee per trainee.
How to improve your cure rate (and stop patients dying)
Reputation drives how many patients arrive, and cures drive reputation. The wiki gives these values for each outcome:
| Outcome | Reputation change |
|---|---|
| Successful treatment | +1 |
| Ineffective treatment | -1 |
| Patient death | -2 |
| Patient rage quits | -0.5 |
| Patient sent home | -0.25 |
| Patient waited too long | -0.25 |
- Diagnosis threshold: in the Policy tab of the Overview screen, you can set the certainty a patient needs before treatment anywhere from 50% to 100%. Most hospitals default to 90%. The wiki explains that higher certainty means a better chance of a successful treatment, so lowering the threshold to clear queues trades speed for cures.
- Fast-track: the same Policy screen has a fast-track option. It lets diagnosis staff send patients straight to treatment instead of back to the GP. TheGamer recommends it, along with building more than one GP’s Office, to cut queues.
- Promote your GPs: according to the wiki, a student doctor may send a patient to any diagnosis room, but a Senior Consultant always picks the best-suited room that you’ve built. Higher-ranked GPs mean fewer wasted visits.
- Best staff and upgraded machines in treatment: the wiki’s advice for higher success is to reach 100% certainty, assign your best staff to the treatment room and upgrade its machine. The Treatment qualification adds +10% treatment skill per level.
- Maintain machines: GamesRadar warns that machines without enough janitors can explode. Hover over machines to check their condition and keep fire extinguishers in rooms with equipment.
- Deal with ghosts: the wiki says each dead patient has a 50% chance to become a ghost that scares people. Only a janitor with Ghost Capture can remove them.

Which version should you play?
On PC, Two Point Hospital is $29.99 on Steam (checked October 31, 2026). On console, Two Point Studios’ Full Health Collection FAQ says the collection includes the base game and all seven DLCs. That means A Stitch in Time, Culture Shock and Speedy Recovery are on console for the first time. It launched digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 on September 16, 2026 for $39.99, and the physical PS5 and Switch 2 editions are due November 6, 2026. All the tips above work in both versions. The original PS4, Xbox One and Switch releases never got those three DLCs or their rooms.

FAQ
What should I build first in Two Point Hospital?
A reception desk, GP’s Office, Pharmacy, Staff Room and Toilets, staffed by one doctor, nurse, assistant and janitor. Add General Diagnosis and a Ward next to raise diagnosis certainty, then build specialist rooms only when patients who need them arrive.
What size should rooms be in Two Point Hospital?
Most early rooms work at their minimum: 3×3 for the GP’s Office, Pharmacy, General Diagnosis and Psychiatry, 3×4 for the Ward, and 2×3 for the Staff Room and Toilets. Use decorations to raise prestige instead of extra floor space. The full table above lists every main-game room.
How do you make money fast in Two Point Hospital?
Treat more patients. Keep queues short, place snack and drink machines where people wait, raise prices a little at a time while watching reputation, and take on challenges and emergencies for cash and Kudosh. Borrow only for rooms that have patients waiting.
Why do my patients keep dying in Two Point Hospital?
Usually because queues are too long or treatment certainty is too low. Build a second GP’s Office, turn on fast-track, keep the diagnosis threshold at 90% or higher, and put your most skilled staff in treatment rooms with upgraded machines.
