Build a Training Room in Flottering, click the lectern, pick a course and trainees. Own staff teach free; guest trainers cost $10,000 + $5k-$25k per trainee.

To train staff in Two Point Hospital, build a Training Room (it unlocks at Flottering, the third hospital), click the lectern, pick a qualification, choose a trainer and add trainees, one per Trainee Desk. Staff can only learn when they have an empty qualification slot, and they get a new slot each time you promote them, up to five. A qualified member of your own staff teaches for free. A Guest Trainer costs $10,000 plus $5,000 to $25,000 per trainee, depending on the course.

This guide lists every qualification with its costs and training units, and suggests what to train first for each staff type. The figures come from the Two Point Hospital wiki’s Staff Training page, which the official Two Point County community hub links as the game’s wiki. It covers the PC version and the Full Health Collection on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 (more on versions below).

Quick answer

  • Unlock: the Training Room appears in Flottering. You need it from Mitton University onward, a teaching hospital where you can only hire untrained students.
  • Minimum room: 3×3 tiles, $7,000. It needs a door, a Lectern ($1,400) and at least one Trainee Desk ($500 each). Each desk adds one seat to the class.
  • Slots: one qualification slot per rank, up to 5. You have to fill the empty slot before you can promote that person again.
  • Cost: free with an on-staff trainer. A Guest Trainer costs $10,000 plus $5,000 per trainee for a level I course, rising by $5,000 per level to $25,000 per trainee at level V.
  • Speed: a level I course needs 240 training units (TU). That’s about 240 seconds at 100% teaching and learning speed.
  • Best first picks: General Practice for GP doctors, Ward Management for ward nurses, Maintenance and Mechanics for janitors, and Customer Service for receptionist assistants.

How to train staff in Two Point Hospital (step by step)

  1. Build a Training Room. Place a door, the Lectern and as many Trainee Desks as you want trainees per class. Fill spare space with training-boost items (table below) to shorten courses.
  2. Open the training screen. Click the Lectern or drop a staff member into the room. You can also start a course from a staff member’s inspector, or from the email a staff member sends when they ask for training.
  3. Pick the qualification. The list only shows courses you have unlocked. Some must be unlocked or researched first. Research levels II to V, for example, each need their own research project.
  4. Choose the trainer. Any employee who holds that qualification can teach it, even across professions: a nurse with Diagnostics can teach doctors. If nobody has it, hire a Guest Trainer.
  5. Add trainees and start. Only staff with an empty slot can join. The screen shows the estimated duration in game days before you click Start Training.

Trainees stop working for the whole course. According to the GameSpew guide, sending every doctor at once leaves patients untreated and hurts your hospital’s popularity. Train in batches and keep cover on the floor.

Training Room cost and the items that speed it up

The wiki lists the build costs below. Training-boost items stack, so a room full of cheap anatomy posters adds up.

Item Price Effect Unlock
Training Room (3×3 minimum) $7,000 Teaches qualifications Flottering
Lectern (required) $1,400 Where the trainer teaches Base game
Trainee Desk (at least 1) $500 +1 trainee per class Base game
Anatomy Poster / Brain Anatomy Poster $100 +1% training speed Base game
Cubism Anatomy Poster $100 +1% training speed Grockle Bay, 3 stars
Anatomy Model $800 +1% training speed Base game
Display Skeleton $1,000 +1% training speed Base game
Encyclopedia Bookcase I $2,000 +2% training speed Mitton University, 1 star
Encyclopedia Bookcase II $4,000 +4% training speed Mitton University, 2 stars

One trainer can use a room at a time, so the Gamepressure guide recommends building at least two Training Rooms. GameRevolution suggests room for at least three desks.

How much does training cost? Staff trainer vs Guest Trainer

Training is free when the trainer is one of your own staff. A Guest Trainer charges a flat $10,000 per course plus a fee for each trainee. For multi-level qualifications, the fee and the training units both rise with each level:

Course level Guest Trainer cost Required TU (most courses) Example: 3 trainees
I (Increased) $10,000 + $5,000 per trainee 240 $25,000
II (Enhanced) $10,000 + $10,000 per trainee 300 $40,000
III (Advanced) $10,000 + $15,000 per trainee 360 $55,000
IV (Elite) $10,000 + $20,000 per trainee 420 $70,000
V (World Class) $10,000 + $25,000 per trainee 480 $85,000

There are a few exceptions. Ward Management stays at 240 TU at every level. Maintenance caps at 360 TU from level III. Genetics and Radiology are single-level courses at $10,000 plus $10,000 per trainee. The other single-level courses cost $10,000 plus $5,000 per trainee.

The obvious money saver: pay a Guest Trainer once, then let that newly qualified employee teach everyone else for free. Guest Trainers are faster, though. The wiki lists them at 160% training speed, and Sophie Smiles, who teaches the personal-development courses, at 180%.

How long does training take?

Course length starts from the required TU. One TU is roughly one second at 100% speed, so a 240 TU course is about four minutes of real time at base speed. Three things change that:

  • The trainer’s teaching speed. The Teacher trait gives +50%, and Training Masterclass gives +50% teaching and learning speed.
  • The trainees’ learning speed. Fast Learner gives +50% and Stupid gives -25%. Each extra trainee adds their own modifier to the final duration.
  • The room. Every training-boost item shortens the course.

Best qualifications for each staff type

These suggestions follow from the numbers above. Your choices should match the rooms your hospital actually runs.

Doctors

Specialise rather than mix. A GP doctor with five levels of General Practice gets five stacks of +15% in the GP’s Office. Diagnosis-room doctors want Diagnostics, and treatment-room doctors want Treatment. Room-unlock courses (Psychiatry, Surgery, Radiology, Genetics, Research) go on dedicated doctors. GameRevolution recommends training several doctors in Psychiatry and Research early. If Radiology is your bottleneck, train a spare doctor so the M.E.G.A Scanner isn’t left empty while the first one is on a break.

Nurses

Ward Management is the strongest nurse course on paper: +20% per level to both diagnosis and treatment in the Ward. It also takes the least time, at 240 TU for every level. Give Pharmacy Management and Injection Administration to the nurses who work those rooms. Diagnostics and Treatment help nurses who move between rooms.

Janitors

Maintenance (+30% per level) keeps machines from breaking down. Mechanics is the only way to upgrade machines. Keep at least one Ghost Capture janitor: per the wiki, a patient who dies has a 50% chance of returning as a ghost that scares patients and staff. With Speedy Recovery, one janitor also needs Vehicular Mechanics for the ambulance fleet.

Assistants

Customer Service is +50% per level at Reception and in shops, so a receptionist with several levels clears queues faster. Marketing is needed to staff the Marketing room. Yesterization only matters in A Stitch in Time’s Clockwise-above-Thyme.

Anyone

Your best teacher should take Training Masterclass first, because it speeds up every course they run. Motivation and Stamina Training are solid choices for staff who have run out of useful specialist courses.

Promotions, ranks and training slots

Every employee has an ability rank from 1 to 5 stars and earns experience by working. The wiki gives the experience needed for each rank: 100 for rank 2, 200 for rank 3, 300 for rank 4 and 400 for rank 5. When the circle around the next star turns white, they write asking for a promotion. Saying “Not now” lowers their happiness. Every promotion requires a small pay rise and opens a new empty slot. Applicants already show their slots on the hire screen: if the last circle is empty, they are “Ready for Training” and you can send them straight to the Training Room.

Gamepressure’s advice is to train right after each promotion while the new slot is open. If you leave it, the game will remind you, and you cannot promote that employee again until the slot is filled.

Which version this covers: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2

  • PC: Two Point Hospital launched on Steam on August 29, 2018 for Windows, macOS and Linux ($29.99 base game). Steam and Epic got crossplay in February 2025. The last expansion, Speedy Recovery, came out on March 15, 2022. The wiki’s training page was last revised in July 2022.
  • Yes, there is a Switch 2 edition. Two Point Hospital: Full Health Collection launched digitally on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 16, 2026 for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, according to the official Two Point Studios FAQ. Physical copies for PS5 and Switch 2 are due November 6, 2026. It bundles the base game with Bigfoot, Pebberley Island, Close Encounters, Off the Grid, Culture Shock, A Stitch in Time and Speedy Recovery. The last three were never on the original console versions.
  • What that means for training: on the original PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions, Driving, Flying, Vehicular Mechanics and Yesterization don’t exist, because they come from Speedy Recovery and A Stitch in Time. The Full Health Collection and PC (with those DLCs) have every course in the table.
  • Patches: Full Health Collection Patch 2 went live on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on October 20, 2026 and on Switch 2 on October 22, per Two Point Studios. It fixes crashes, save issues and progression bugs. The studio hasn’t announced any change to the training system.

If you’re moving from an old console save, the FAQ says the original save must be in local console storage before you first launch the Full Health Collection, or the import screen won’t appear.

FAQ

Why can’t I train a staff member in Two Point Hospital?

They have no empty qualification slot. Staff get one slot per rank, up to five, so promote them when they ask, then send them to the Training Room. Check that the course is unlocked, too. Some, like Research II-V, have to be researched first.

Can a nurse train a doctor?

Yes, for a qualification both can hold. Anyone with the qualification can teach it, so a nurse with Diagnostics can teach doctors Diagnostics.

Is it cheaper to use a Guest Trainer or my own staff?

Your own staff teach for free. A Guest Trainer costs $10,000 plus $5,000-$25,000 per trainee but trains at 160% speed. The common approach is to bring in a Guest Trainer once, then have that newly trained employee teach the rest.

Does the Switch 2 version have all the training qualifications?

Yes. The Full Health Collection on Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S includes Speedy Recovery and A Stitch in Time, which add Driving, Flying, Vehicular Mechanics and Yesterization. The original Switch version doesn’t have those four.

Where do I unlock the Training Room?

In Flottering, the third hospital, during its initial objectives. The next hospital, Mitton University, only lets you hire students, so set up training before you get there.
