Battlefield 6 will fix its 'Secuty' skin typo, but the five-pistol outfit is staying

Battlefield Studios posted a statement on the official Battlefield Discord about two Season 5 cosmetics that players mocked after the season launched on October 13. It says a fix for the misspelled 'Secuty' patches on the McNeil skin was already planned for the Season 5 Phase 2 update, and that it is reviewing its quality control. The studio says the Midnight Mirage skin's five pistol holsters are deliberate, calling it a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes. It did not respond to fan claims that the cosmetics were made with AI.

Buitopia DVD is a Steam horror game you can burn to a disc and play on a real DVD player

Animator Ben Wheele's surreal Buitopia DVD, published by Nondoon, is built entirely out of DVD menus, and the Steam version includes the disc image so players can burn it themselves; the store page even promises the 'whirring, chugging sounds' of a struggling DVD player. Because DVDs can't save, Wheele told Dexerto he designed a password system instead. It launched October 9 and costs $4.99, or $4.49 with a launch discount that runs until October 23.

Sony patent filing describes AI that predicts the next game frame before it's rendered

A Sony Interactive Entertainment patent application published in the US on October 15 (US 2026/0320740) describes neural networks that predict an upcoming frame from previous frames, motion vectors and controller input, then show it before the real frame is finished, as reported by Patentlyze and Game Rant. Unlike frame interpolation, it does not wait for two real frames, which is meant to avoid extra lag. The filing does not mention PS6, and a patent is no guarantee the tech ever ships.

Drunken Goddess Reflux scraps its public demo over fears AI could be used to clone it

Japanese developer Alliance Arts has cancelled the public demo of its Russian-roulette drinking game Drunken Goddess Reflux that was due on Monday, October 19, replacing it with closed online play sessions for a limited group. In a statement on X, the studio said it was concerned the demo could be used to quickly imitate the game's presentation and gameplay "with AI or other tools" and have copies out before its launch, and that its small team couldn't police video-sharing rules. Applications for the closed sessions are open on the game's official Discord; the PC game has no release date yet.

Modern Warfare 4 opens with a Very Positive rating on Steam

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is landing well with players so far: on Saturday afternoon its Steam page showed a Very Positive rating, with 800 of 932 user reviews (about 86%) recommending it. Insider Gaming, using SteamDB's weighted scores, says that makes it the best-received Call of Duty on Steam since Black Ops III in 2015, far ahead of recent entries such as Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7. The sample is small and comes from early-access buyers, who only have the campaign for now, so the score could move once the game fully launches on October 22.

WARDOGS will bring Season 3 forward after calling Season 2's faster progression 'the wrong call'

Bulkhead says speeding up progression in WARDOGS Season 2 was a mistake: some players reached end-game gear such as Tier 4 armour and main battle tanks within days, so the seasonal wipe "never really landed". In a post on X on Saturday, the studio ruled out a "knee jerk reset" this weekend and said it is instead looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content to give players a proper fresh start. Jonathan Blow's Order of the Sinking Star outsold The Witness on Steam in its first week

Developer Thekla and publisher Arc Games say Order of the Sinking Star, which launched October 8, sold 45% more units on Steam in its first week than The Witness did in 2016, and beat The Witness's peak concurrent player count on Steam by 33%. Blow added on X that the new game costs $30 against The Witness's $40, so more units were expected, but that it looks at least as financially successful. A patch out today (October 17) fixes more bugs, though Thekla warns that since Friday's update the level reset can fail; undoing back to the start of a level makes it work again.

CS2 pro 2xplayN banned for life after posting cash photos during his match-fixing suspension

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has banned Counter-Strike 2 player Palkovics "2xplayN" Tamás for life, a day after he received a three-year suspension, which was due to run until April 2029, in its match-fixing investigation into team NOMERCY. ESIC says his social media posts showing apparent cash alongside comments about the findings, betting payouts and a return to competition were an "egregious breach", though it stresses the photos alone don't prove the money came from match-fixing. The commission also says it will help refer the conduct to Valve, government agencies and law enforcement.

Konami's games chief says generative AI won't significantly change the game market

Konami Digital Entertainment president Hideki Hayakawa argues in Konami's Integrated Report for the year to March 2026 that generative AI won't significantly change the market, because game engines and user-generated content have already lowered the barrier to entry, Automaton reports. Even if AI makes production more efficient, he said, people and creators remain the most important factors in making fun, innovative games. He added that Konami helps its creators assess the risks of new technology and apply it safely.
