Cult of the Lamb hits Switch 2 on October 22. Switch 1 owners upgrade free; new players pay $24.99, the same as on Switch. What we know about features and DLC.

Cult of the Lamb arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026, and anyone who already owns the original Switch version can upgrade for free. Developer Massive Monster announced the date on October 16 and said new players will pay the same price as the Switch 1 version, which is $24.99 on the US Nintendo eShop.

Here’s what’s confirmed so far, what it costs, and what Massive Monster and publisher Devolver Digital haven’t said yet.

How does the free Cult of the Lamb Switch 2 upgrade work?

Massive Monster’s announcement is short and direct: “Cultists that already own COTL on Switch 1 can upgrade for FREE, while those that don’t will have to pay the price. That price being the same amount as the Switch 1 version.” Unlike many Switch 2 Editions, there’s no paid upgrade pack, a point both Siliconera and Nintendo Life highlighted.

As of October 17 there’s no Switch 2 listing on the US eShop yet, so the exact steps aren’t public. The studio also hasn’t said whether physical Switch cartridges qualify, whether saves carry over, or whether DLC you bought on Switch 1 comes with you. We’ll update this post when the listing goes live.

If you want to play on Switch 2 right now, the current version already runs on the new console. Nintendo’s compatibility note on the Cult of the Lamb eShop page lists it as “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.”

What’s improved on Switch 2?

Nothing official yet. The announcement covered only the date and the pricing, with no word on resolution, frame rate, mouse controls or other Switch 2 features. Several outlets expect a resolution and performance boost, but that’s their guess, not a studio statement. Treat any specs you see before launch as unconfirmed until Massive Monster or the eShop listing spells them out.

How much does Cult of the Lamb cost on Switch 2?

New players pay the same as on Switch 1. On the US eShop today the base game is $24.99, the Woolhaven Edition (base game plus the expansion) is $37.99, and The One Who Waits edition is $59.99. Siliconera says The One Who Waits bundles the base game, Woolhaven, and the Cultist, Heretic, Sinful and Pilgrim packs. Devolver hasn’t confirmed which of these bundles will get Switch 2 versions on day one.

Woolhaven DLC and what’s next

Woolhaven, the game’s first big paid expansion, launched in January 2026 at $16.99. It continues the main story on a snowy mountain, the ancestral home of the lambs. It adds winter survival, ranching, two new dungeons and a town to rebuild. According to the Steam listing, you can only reach it near the end of the base game. The Woolhaven DLC on the US eShop is $12.49 until October 20 at 06:59 UTC, so if you plan to buy it on Switch anyway, getting it before the upgrade arrives costs less. No further expansion has been announced.
