Football Manager 27 is free to play on PC and Mac for five days before launch, from 6pm GMT (18:00 UTC, 2pm ET) on Thursday, October 29 until 6pm GMT (1pm ET) on Tuesday, November 3. Sports Interactive and SEGA announced the FM27 Launch Preview on footballmanager.com on October 21. It runs on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, with no sign-up and every game mode unlocked.
Pre-purchase opens at the same moment with 10% off, and buying keeps your Launch Preview access running until the full release on November 10. Saves started during the free days carry over to the paid preview and to the full game.

Football Manager 27 free trial: dates and times
UK clocks go back on October 25, so “6pm GMT” is the same as 18:00 UTC for the whole window. US clocks change on November 1, which is why the Eastern time shifts by an hour between the start and the end.

|---|---|---|
| Free Launch Preview starts | Oct 29, 18:00 | Oct 29, 2pm EDT |
| Pre-purchase opens (10% off) | Oct 29, 18:00 | Oct 29, 2pm EDT |
| Free period ends, paid Launch Preview continues | Nov 3, 18:00 | Nov 3, 1pm EST |
| Full launch | Nov 10 | Nov 10 |
How to play FM27 for free
- PC or Mac only. The announcement names PC and Mac; it says nothing about the PS5, Xbox Series or mobile versions joining the free period.
- Pick a store: Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Microsoft Store. Download it from 6pm GMT on October 29; no account sign-up beyond your store login is needed. Wishlisting on the Steam page gets you a reminder.
- Game Pass: the Launch Preview is only for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. If you start a save on Game Pass, you can keep playing it through your subscription.
- Keep playing after November 3: pre-purchase FM27 during the window to get 10% off and uninterrupted access until launch. SEGA’s small print says this only applies to purchases from SEGA-approved digital retailers. Steam didn’t list a price yet when we checked on October 21.
What the Launch Preview is
The Launch Preview replaces what earlier games called the Beta or Advanced Access. Sports Interactive says it is meant to be closer in quality and finish to the launch version than previous early builds. It still comes with a warning: some licensing data is going through approval, so a few club and player assets may be missing until launch.
The studio’s release, as quoted by VGC and Eurogamer, says “making an annual title free to play with all game modes available is believed to be an industry first.”

Why FM27 is going free: the FM26 hangover
The free window follows a hard stretch for the series. Sports Interactive cancelled Football Manager 25 while moving to the Unity engine, and Football Manager 26 returned last year to heavy criticism over bugs, missing features and its new interface, VGC and Eurogamer report. VGC says the Steam rating once fell below 25%, and Sports Interactive acknowledged the game “missed expectations.” Patches improved it, but on October 21 FM26 still sat at “Mostly Negative” on Steam (about 36% positive of 36,500 reviews).
FM26 is also on its way out of subscriptions: both FM26 editions leave Game Pass on November 10, the day FM27 arrives (see our Game Pass October wave 2 roundup), and Football Manager 26 Console is in the PS Plus November leaving list.
FM27 promises a clearer interface, an improved match engine and new touchline and training-ground controls called Tactical Tweaks and Tactical Effectiveness. Five free days are a straightforward way to judge those changes before paying.
What’s next
Football Manager 27 launches on November 10 on PC, Mac, PS5 and Xbox Series, and FM27 Touch arrives on Apple Arcade the same day. We’ll be ready with tactics and beginner guides once the preview opens; until then, the core ideas in our older Football Manager tactics guide still apply.
