Free Steam games this week are thin. There’s no free-to-keep giveaway of a paid game: when we checked Steam’s store on Tuesday, November 3 at 10:35 UTC, the only item at 100% off was a DLC. The one full game you can add for free and keep is Last Gambit, a chess roguelite that’s free in Early Access and stays yours if it’s in your library before its 1.0 launch on November 13. The only free weekend running is Football Manager 27’s free Launch Preview, and it ends today at 18:00 UTC.
This page covers Steam only, from November 3 to 10. For Epic, PS Plus, Prime Gaming and GOG, see our free games this week roundup for every store.

Last Gambit: free now, €4.99 from November 13
Last Gambit isn’t on sale. It’s a free game in Early Access, and that’s ending. In its October 30 Steam announcement, developer Mads says the game leaves Early Access on Thursday, November 13, and “from that day the game will cost €4.99 (or the regional equivalent)”. Players who already have it don’t pay: “If Last Gambit is in your Steam library before November 13, you keep it for free, forever.” The post names no cut-off hour, so add it by November 12 to be safe.
The game is chess with rule-breaking pieces. According to its Steam page, knights can become unicorns, queens cross the board’s edges and phoenixes come back. You take your army through a roguelite Story mode with a branching map, bosses, merchants and perks, then into online 1v1 matches with cross-play between PC and Android, on Windows, macOS and Linux. It’s worth your time if you like chess variants or short roguelite runs. It had 8 user reviews when we checked, too few for a Steam score. To claim it, open the store page and click “Play Game” (or add it to your library).
Free DLC: Hunting Simulator 3 Classic American Hunter Pack
The only item at 100% off in Steam’s store search is a DLC. The Classic American Hunter Pack for Hunting Simulator 3 (Nacon Studio Ghent, Nacon) normally costs $4.99. Its Steam page says it’s “free to keep when you get it before Nov 12 @ 10:00am” Pacific time, which is 18:00 UTC. It’s only useful if you own Hunting Simulator 3, which isn’t free: $31.99 with a 20% launch discount that Steam’s data shows ending on November 12 at 17:00 UTC, then $39.99.

Steam free weekend: Football Manager 27 ends today
Football Manager 27’s Launch Preview has been free on Steam since October 29 at 18:00 UTC, and Steam’s own store data ends the free period at 18:00 UTC today, November 3. Sports Interactive’s announcement says it’s free on PC and Mac through Steam, Epic, the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass. It also says all saves from the free days “can be continued through to both the paid Launch Preview and full launch without the need to start again”. To keep playing after 18:00 UTC, you’d have to pre-purchase: $53.99 on Steam (10% off $59.99) before the full launch on November 10. Our guide to the FM27 free Launch Preview has the full rules.
Valve describes free weekends as temporary access: in its Steamworks documentation, players “can try out the game for free, but lose access when the time period expires”. That’s the difference from Last Gambit, which you keep.

Is there a Steam free weekend November 5-8?
Not yet. We checked Steam’s store data for about 9,000 released paid games and 1,000 upcoming ones on November 3, and Football Manager 27 was the only one with a free weekend attached. If one is added for this weekend, we’ll put it in the table above with its end time.

FAQ
Are there any free Steam games to keep right now?
One full game: Last Gambit stays free forever if you add it before November 13. No paid game is 100% off this week. The only 100%-off item is a DLC for Hunting Simulator 3, until November 12 at 18:00 UTC.
Do I keep a game after a Steam free weekend?
No. You lose access when the free weekend ends, unless you buy it. Some publishers let you carry your save into the paid game, as Football Manager 27 does.
