Taunt, Battlefield Banner and Doom Shield plus Noble Armor or Empyrean Lord’s Punishment: the AION 2 Templar tank build, macro and PvP sets compared.

The best AION 2 Templar build for PvE is a party tank: Taunt and the shield skills hold the boss, a held-key macro fires Judgment in the short windows that Shield Smite, Warding Strike and Doom Shield open, and you charge Punishment by hand for its +20% PvE Damage Boost buff. Every Block also triggers Fury, a damage buff for the whole party. Both main sources slot Taunt, Battlefield Banner and Doom Shield; for the fourth Stigma, MetaBot’s top players run Empyrean Lord’s Punishment and Aion 2 Maps takes Noble Armor.

This guide combines MetaBot’s client data and top-player pick rates, the Templar guide on Aion 2 Maps, and NC’s patch notes; where they disagree, both options are shown. Balance status, checked November 1, 2026 at 04:45 UTC: NC’s October 7, 14, 21 and 28 global patch notes change no Templar skill. The October 28 patch raised the Templar’s base HP at level 45 from 4,702 to 6,202 (+1,500, like the Gladiator; every other class got +1,000) and cut boss Attack by 15% in Normal Expedition and Transcendence stage 1.

Quick answer: best AION 2 Templar build

  • Role: main tank. MetaBot rates it 2/5 for damage, 5/5 for survivability and 4/5 for utility.
  • Keys: hold Vicious Strike (basic attack, +100 MP a hit) and one macro key; press Punishment (full charge) and Taunt yourself.
  • PvE Stigmas, top players: Taunt (76% of tracked top Templars), Empyrean Lord’s Punishment (67%), Battlefield Banner (65%), Doom Shield (61%), with Shield of Protection level at 61%.
  • PvE Stigmas, Aion 2 Maps: Taunt, Battlefield Banner, Doom Shield, Noble Armor; Empyrean Lord’s Punishment for stagger checks.
  • Skills first: Judgment, Vicious Strike, Pummel and Punishment to 10, then Warding Strike and Fury.
  • Stats: the biggest split. MetaBot puts survival first (Block, Defense, HP); Aion 2 Maps puts damage first (Front Attack Damage Boost, Double Chance, then Weapon and Critical Damage Boost).

Templar skills: what each one does in the build

According to MetaBot’s Templar page (global client build 0.0.4387.0), the Templar fights with a longsword and shield and learns 12 active skills between level 1 and 16, 10 passives and 13 Stigma skills. The active kit:

Skill Unlocks Cooldown Role in the build
Vicious Strike Lv. 1 None Basic AoE on up to 4 enemies; builds Enmity, restores 100 MP
Pummel Lv. 1 None AoE that builds Enmity (120 MP); your MP sink
Poach Lv. 1 15 s 20 m pull; drags packs into your cleave
Shield Smite Lv. 3 10 s AoE, 60% Stun chance (100% on NPCs); opens Judgment for 2 s
Judgment Lv. 4 5 s Main single-target hit; only usable in shield-skill windows
Flash Rampage Lv. 5 None Hits only a staggered target
Debilitating Smash Lv. 7 10 s AoE; -25% Defense for 5 s on Block
Warding Strike Lv. 8 30 s AoE that heals you and grants Warding for 10 s
Shield Rush Lv. 10 20 s Rush after a Dodge or while flying; opens Judgment
Annihilate Lv. 12 20 s Big hit on a stunned or knocked-down target
Punishment Lv. 14 30 s Charged 20 m AoE, 1,394 to 4,184 base damage; grants Executor
Defiance Lv. 16 60 s Breaks Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost, Fear; 5 s immunity

Cooldowns and effects are MetaBot’s level-1 client values.

The key passives are Enhance Health (+7.5% Max HP), Insulting Roar (+100% Enmity Boost) and Fury (party PvE Damage Boost on Block). MetaBot’s planner gives 203 skill points and 29 Stigma points by level 45. For how the Templar compares with the other seven classes, see our AION 2 classes guide.

AION 2 Templar PvE tank build

Of the 153 top Templars MetaBot tracks (level 45, highest combat power per region), 88-98% have each active skill except Defiance on the bar. MetaBot flags this as a low sample, and the snapshot showed as updated 28 days ago, so read it as what high-end players ran in early October, not a ranking.

Skill priority

Aion 2 Maps’ Templar guide (updated October 18, built from the client plus creator guides) takes Judgment, Vicious Strike, Pummel and Punishment to 10 first, then Warding Strike, Fury, Poach, Annihilate and Shield Smite, then the damage passives and finally Enhance Health and Ironclad Defense. It leaves Flash Rampage, Survival Willpower, Guarding Seal and Warding Shield at 1. MetaBot’s top players train the same core highest (Judgment averages skill level 13.8, Vicious Strike 13.6, Warding Strike 13.4).

Best Templar Stigmas for PvE

Slots open at levels 22, 27, 32 and 37. MetaBot counts 29 Stigma points at 45; Aion 2 Maps counts 30, adding the point from the Ascension quest The One Who Hears the Voice, which also opens the first slot.

Stigma Cooldown What it does Top-player use
Taunt 30 s 20 m hit that builds Enmity and inflicts Shrink for 15 s 76%
Empyrean Lord’s Punishment 60 s 20 m AoE, 50% Stun chance (100% on NPCs) 67%
Battlefield Banner 90 s Attack in proportion to your Defense for 10 s 65%
Doom Shield 30 s 20 m rush, 75% Knockdown chance, shield of 5% Max HP 61%
Shield of Protection 20 s Guaranteed Block, +100% Block Damage Reduction 61%
Noble Armor 120 s +5.4% Max HP for 120 s plus a heal; cannot be dispelled 37%
Nezekan’s Shield 60 s Party shield of 41% Max HP for 3 s 24%

MetaBot level-1 client data; usage shares from its 153-character top-player sample, checked November 1, 2026. You slot four.

Where the sources split:

  • Noble Armor or Empyrean Lord’s Punishment: Aion 2 Maps slots Noble Armor at Stigma level 10 (+9% Max HP; the 120 s buff matches its cooldown, so it never drops) and saves Empyrean Lord’s Punishment for stagger checks: 50 stagger damage at Stigma level 5 and 100 from 10, the most of any Templar skill. Only 37% of MetaBot’s top players run Noble Armor.
  • Shield of Protection: Aion 2 Maps uses it in place of Battlefield Banner in harder group content, pressed just before a blockable hit to keep Fury running.
  • Executing Blade: Aion 2 Maps says about a third of global players slot it instead of Noble Armor; MetaBot’s sample shows 19%.
  • Levels: Aion 2 Maps puts Noble Armor at 10 and the other three at 5. MetaBot’s top players average Battlefield Banner 7.8, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment 6, Doom Shield 5.9 and Taunt 5.1.

Best Templar specialties at 45

Aion 2 Maps’ picks, with the skill levels it expects at 45 (10 from points plus Daevanion nodes):

Skill Picks at 45
Judgment (14) Extra damage on hit; Critical Hit on hit (Remove cooldown at 16)
Vicious Strike (14) -2 s Warding Strike cooldown on hit; +50% Multi-Hit on hit
Punishment (14) +30% Skill Speed; Damage over Time on hit
Pummel (14) Up to 12% more damage on fewer targets; -1 s Punishment cooldown on hit
Annihilate (13) +100% damage to targets with Incapacitated Immunity; -10 s cooldown
Warding Strike (12) -5 s cooldown; Heal over Time during Warding
Poach (10) Moves you to targets with Incapacitated Immunity (bosses cannot be pulled)

Why the Annihilate pick: against a boss with Incapacitated Immunity, each hit you land has a 5% chance (at most once a second) to make Annihilate usable for 3 s, which Aion 2 Maps puts at about 4 Annihilates a minute in global parses.

AION 2 Templar macro and rotation

Aion 2 Maps’ setup, from creator guides: hold Vicious Strike on left click and one macro key with three lines (each fires its lowest ready skill).

  1. Judgment line: Pummel, Shield Smite, Warding Strike, with Judgment at the bottom so it fires first whenever a window is open.
  2. Annihilate line: Doom Shield above Annihilate. Doom Shield’s hit resets Annihilate, giving you a second one.
  3. Buff line: Noble Armor above Battlefield Banner.
  4. By hand: both buffs to open, Taunt on cooldown, and Punishment held to full charge between Judgment windows.

Keep Punishment out of the macro, which fires it at the first charge step. If Judgment fires less than expected, keep Doom Shield out of the Judgment line: its 3 s window drops to 2 s when Shield Smite or Warding Strike fires right after it.

How to tank as a Templar

  • Threat: nine of your attacks raise Enmity, and Aion 2 Maps reports that with Taunt you hold a boss against a second Templar doing up to about twice your damage.
  • Fury: every Block gives your party +10% PvE Damage Boost for 20 s at Fury 10 and 12% at 14 (Aion 2 Maps; MetaBot’s level-1 tooltip shows 5.5%).
  • Shrink: Taunt’s debuff cuts the boss’s Attack by 10% and, from Stigma level 5, its PvE Damage Tolerance by 10%.
  • One per party: Fury does not stack with the Gladiator’s Experienced Counterstrike, nor Shrink with its Rage Burst. Running two tanks? See our AION 2 Gladiator build.

Your healer’s side of the fight is in our AION 2 Cleric build.

AION 2 Templar PvP build

A PvP Templar catches a target and holds it: Poach pulls, Doom Shield and Shield Rush close the gap, and stuns and knockdowns set up Annihilate. Use a separate skill preset, which keeps its own skill and Stigma levels.

Source PvP Stigmas
MetaBot (editorial) Doom Shield, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment, Noble Armor, Grapple
Aion 2 Maps (creator advice) Executing Blade, Second Skin, Doom Shield, Noble Armor
Aion 2 Maps, swaps Comrade in Arms in group fights; Grapple against ranged players; Armor of Balance against Assassins

Both keep Doom Shield and Noble Armor. MetaBot adds a ranged AoE stun and an AoE pull-and-root and maxes Shield Rush and Annihilate; Aion 2 Maps adds burst (Executing Blade cuts Defense by 30%) and Second Skin for the enemy’s burst window, and raises Survival Willpower to 10. Its opener: Doom Shield in to make them spend Defiance, ride out the 5 s of immunity, then Poach, Shield Smite and Judgment, and finish with Executing Blade and a full Punishment. Wait out a Sorcerer’s Hibernation before you spend control; our AION 2 Sorcerer build shows when Sorcerers slot it.

Shield Rush also fires while you are flying, per MetaBot's client data, which makes it a gap closer in open-world PvP. Image: NC

AION 2 Templar leveling build (1-45)

MetaBot’s leveling build maxes Vicious Strike, Pummel, Poach, Shield Smite, Judgment, Warding Strike, Punishment, Enhance Health and Punishing Benediction. Aion 2 Maps takes Vicious Strike and Pummel first, then Poach, each to 8 before any skill goes to 10. The Stigma order splits:

  • MetaBot: Taunt at 22, Empyrean Lord’s Punishment at 27, Battlefield Banner at 32, Doom Shield at 37.
  • Aion 2 Maps: Doom Shield at 22, then Empyrean Lord’s Punishment and Battlefield Banner, with Taunt at level 1; at 45, Noble Armor takes Empyrean Lord’s Punishment’s slot.

For questing, Aion 2 Maps pulls with Poach, kills and pulls again (its level-8 pick resets the cooldown on a kill), or gathers a pack and releases a full Punishment. MetaBot calls the Templar’s damage the lowest of the eight classes, so solo leveling is slow but almost deathless. Skill and Stigma resets are free, so respec at 45.

Templar Daevanion board build

Board Opens at Points Aion 2 Maps’ first nodes
Nezekan Lv. 12 134 Judgment, Punishment, Combat Speed, Vicious Strike, Pummel
Zikel Lv. 20 134 Judgment, Pummel, Damage Boost, Punishment, Fury
Vaizel Lv. 30 134 Judgment, Punishment, Fury, Impact Hit, Pummel
Triniel Lv. 40 168 Judgment, Punishment, Fury, Insulting Roar, Pummel
Ariel Lv. 45 232 PvE only: PvE Damage Boost, then Boss Damage Boost, then PvE Damage Tolerance
Azphel Lv. 45 232 PvP only: core nodes, then Status Effect nodes

Board sizes from MetaBot; node order from Aion 2 Maps.

MetaBot’s editorial note goes the other way: Nezekan’s Enhance Health, Ironclad Defense and Guarding Seal pairs first, then Zikel’s Fury and Insulting Roar. Its top players mostly follow the skill-node route: Punishment +1 on Zikel (98%), Judgment +1 on Nezekan (97%), Vicious Strike +1 on Zikel (96%). For Ariel, NC’s October 27 (PDT) / October 28 (CET) patch notes added Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island Hard mode (item level 2700), each with a guaranteed Ariel Fragment; 100 fragments morph into one Daevanion Crystal: Ariel, up to 30 times per character.

Best Templar stats: Block or Damage Boost?

  • MetaBot (editorial): Block, Defense, HP, Critical Hit Resist, then “enough Attack to hold threat”.
  • Aion 2 Maps: Front Attack Damage Boost (about 63% of boss damage lands from the front, per global logs), then Double Chance, then Weapon and Critical Damage Boost. Defense goes on leftovers, since Battlefield Banner turns it into Attack, and Critical Hit adds nothing past 50% crit against Expedition and Transcendence bosses.

The trade-off: MetaBot’s list keeps you alive with a weak healer; Aion 2 Maps’ list assumes a healer who keeps up. Our read: the October 28 HP buff and boss Attack cut make the damage list easier to afford. MetaBot’s top players mostly wear the Spiritforged Longsword and Guard, enchanted to +9.5 and +8.7 on average.

Templar or Gladiator: which tank?

Our AION 2 best class tier list shows both major rankings put the Templar in S tier for group PvE as the only pure tank. Pick it to main-tank every dungeon; pick the Gladiator to tank sometimes and deal real damage the rest of the time.

FAQ

What are the best Templar Stigmas in AION 2?

Taunt, Battlefield Banner and Doom Shield, plus Empyrean Lord’s Punishment (MetaBot’s top players) or Noble Armor (Aion 2 Maps). Shield of Protection for harder group content.

Why does my Punishment come out uncharged?

It is in your macro. Give it its own key and hold it, per Aion 2 Maps.
