The best class in AION 2 depends on what you play: the Spiritmaster is the best solo class, the Cleric, Chanter and Templar are the top picks for group PvE, and the Assassin is the strongest PvP duelist, with the Gladiator as the safer PvP pick on a high-ping connection. Two independent tier lists agree on most of that, and nothing in NC’s global patches since the October 5 launch has changed class balance.
This AION 2 best class tier list puts the two most detailed community rankings side by side, shows where they agree and where they split, and turns that into one pick for each question players actually search: solo, PvE, PvP, DPS, beginners and high ping. The rankings are attributed to their authors; they are not our own play results.
Table of Contents
Quick answer: best AION 2 class for each playstyle
- Best solo class (solo PvE, farming): Spiritmaster; Gladiator if you want melee.
- Best for group PvE (dungeons, Expedition): Cleric, Chanter and Templar, S tier in both rankings.
- Best PvP class: Assassin, S tier in both rankings, but only on a low-ping connection.
- Best PvP class on high ping: Gladiator, followed by Spiritmaster.
- Best DPS class: Sorcerer by kit; the Chanter is reported at the top of damage meters.
- Best class for beginners: Gladiator, rated the easiest class in both sources.
- Balance status (checked October 26, 2026, 18:10 UTC): the October 7, 14 and 21 global patch notes contain class bug fixes only, no buffs or nerfs.

AION 2 tier list: PvE, PvP and solo compared
The two rankings below use different methods, which is why they are useful together. MetaBot’s AION 2 tier list (updated October 15) scores each class from its skill kit in global client version 2.0.3.0, counting crowd control, range, party buffs, healing and cooldowns, and checks the result against more than 145,000 tracked level 45 characters. TechWiser’s AION 2 classes tier list (updated October 17) says it ranks classes from damage meter data and covers PvE and solo PvP.
| Class | Role | PvE (MetaBot / TechWiser) | PvP (MetaBot / TechWiser) | Solo and beginner (MetaBot) | Consensus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleric | Healer | S / S | B / C | B | Best healer, weak duelist |
| Chanter | Healer / Damage | S / S | B / B | A | Best support, top PvE pick |
| Templar | Tank | S / S | A / A | A | Only pure tank, always wanted |
| Gladiator | Tank / Damage | A / A | A / S | S | Best all-rounder for new players |
| Ranger | Damage | A / A | A / A | A | A tier everywhere, easy to play |
| Sorcerer | Damage | A / A | S / B | A | Top ranged DPS, split on PvP |
| Assassin | Damage | B / A | S / S | B | Best duelist, hardest class |
| Spiritmaster | Damage | B / B | A / A | S | Best solo class, weak in groups |
The PvE column is the most settled part of the meta: both lists put the same three classes in S tier and the Spiritmaster in B. The only PvE disagreement is the Assassin, which MetaBot holds at B because it has the fewest multi-target attacks of any class (7), while TechWiser rates it A and calls it a likely buff candidate. If you want the full kit breakdown behind these roles, our AION 2 classes guide explains every class, its weapon and its key skills.
Best class for solo PvE in AION 2
The Spiritmaster is the best solo class. According to MetaBot’s class data, its Earth Spirit pulls enmity off you, its Wind Spirit and Spirit Communion heal you, and 21 of its skills reach 20 m, so most open-world fights end before a monster reaches you. MetaBot’s solo order is Spiritmaster, Gladiator, then Ranger.
The Gladiator is the melee alternative. Blood Absorption heals on hit and restores 26% of Max HP when you drop below half health, and ten of its attacks hit up to four enemies, which makes it fast at clearing packs. The Ranger fits players who want range without managing a pet: only one of its attacks needs you within 5 m.
| Solo pick | Why it solos well | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Spiritmaster | Spirits tank and heal; 21 skills at 20 m | No party-wide skills, so B tier in groups |
| Gladiator | Lifesteal plus 10 multi-target attacks | Melee only, little party utility |
| Ranger | 16 of 25 skills at 20 m, simple kit | No party utility |
A caveat for endgame solo players: TechWiser notes that an average Spiritmaster “falls well behind other DPS classes” because its damage depends on managing elemental timing and debuffs. It is the easiest class to keep alive, not the easiest to maximize.
Best class for PvE dungeons and Expedition
For group content, pick a role before a class. Both rankings put the Cleric (the only pure healer), the Chanter (seven party-wide skills) and the Templar (the only pure tank) in S tier, because they are the classes parties are built around. TechWiser adds that the Cleric has “the fastest dungeon invite speed” and that the Chanter currently sits at the top of damage meters despite being a hybrid support.
That matters more since the October 20 (PDT) / October 21 (CEST) patch, which added Hard mode for the Krao Cave and Draupnir Expeditions. NC’s notes set the entry requirement at item level 2600, a 4-minute boss Frenzy timer and a limit of 3 revives per player, with new rewards including Ariel Fragments for the new Ariel Daevanion board. A strict timer and limited revives reward exactly what the S tier classes bring: a tank that holds the boss, healing that prevents deaths, and party buffs that speed up the kill.
One party-building note from MetaBot: the Cleric’s Light of Protection and the Chanter’s Undefeated Mantra are the same 10.5% PvE damage and damage tolerance buff and do not stack. A party with both classes gets more from one of them using that Stigma slot for something else.

Best PvP class in AION 2
The Assassin is the best PvP class in both rankings. MetaBot credits its 9 hard crowd-control skills, two stealth Stigmas, buff removal and Triniel’s Dagger, which lengthens the target’s cooldowns. TechWiser calls it “the best 1v1 class in the game” but adds a warning: above 100 ms ping, combo timing falls apart and the class “drops off significantly”.
The rankings split on the second spot. MetaBot puts the Sorcerer in S tier for its control (including the game’s only Polymorph, a 10-second Curse: Tree) and Hibernation’s 5 seconds of immunity. TechWiser puts the Gladiator in S instead, for lifesteal, gap closers and durability, and drops the Sorcerer to B because melee players close the distance on it. Both lists agree that the Cleric and Chanter are weak in duels but climb in organized group PvP and Abyss fights, where resurrection, cleansing and party shields decide outcomes.
| PvP situation | Best pick | Runner-up |
|---|---|---|
| 1v1 duels, low ping | Assassin | Sorcerer or Gladiator |
| 1v1 duels, high ping | Gladiator | Spiritmaster |
| Open-world ganks and kiting | Spiritmaster (three Fear skills) | Ranger |
| Organized group PvP and sieges | Cleric | Chanter, Templar |
Every class gets Defiance at level 16, which removes Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear and grants 5 seconds of immunity, so PvP strength comes from the rest of each kit.
Best AION 2 class for high ping
If you play from a region far from your server, avoid classes that depend on tight combo timing. TechWiser’s notes rank the options this way:
- Gladiator: “ping-forgiving” compared to the Assassin, the safer S tier PvP pick on higher latency.
- Sorcerer: the best high-ping class for players who still want serious damage, because it casts from range without tight weaving.
- Spiritmaster: summon damage runs on its own, which TechWiser says makes it “surprisingly effective at higher ping levels”.
- Assassin: the class to avoid above about 100 ms.
Best DPS class in AION 2
The two sources answer this differently because they measure different things. MetaBot names the Sorcerer the best DPS class: it shares the top damage rating with the Assassin but deals it from 20 m with 11 multi-target attacks, so it keeps hitting through boss mechanics. TechWiser reports the Chanter as the current number one on damage meters and expects a damage nerf in a future patch. MetaBot itself notes there are no public damage meters for AION 2, so treat meter-based claims as community reports rather than official numbers.
For single-target burst on bosses, both point to the Assassin; for melee damage on trash pulls, MetaBot picks the Gladiator.

Best class for beginners
The Gladiator is the best beginner class. MetaBot gives it 5 out of 5 for ease of play because its skills are mostly unconditional and Blood Absorption keeps it topped up, and TechWiser rates it “Easy”. It also scales into endgame: it can off-tank group content, so parties always have a use for it. The Ranger is the ranged beginner pick, also rated Easy by TechWiser. The Assassin and Chanter are the two classes TechWiser marks as Hard.
What players actually play
Popularity is not strength, but it shows that no class is locked out of the top end. MetaBot’s armory snapshot of the 1,000 highest Combat Power characters (all regions, October 6) splits like this:
| Class | Share of top 1,000 | Median CP (top 1,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Sorcerer | 14.8% | 77,600 |
| Assassin | 14.1% | 77,294 |
| Gladiator | 13.7% | 75,656 |
| Chanter | 12.9% | 76,460 |
| Spiritmaster | 12.3% | 75,401 |
| Ranger | 12.2% | 75,417 |
| Templar | 10.1% | 76,218 |
| Cleric | 9.9% | 75,181 |
MetaBot points out that across all tracked level 45 characters every class sits between 12.3% and 13.3%, and that Combat Power rewards damage stats, which is why tanks and healers rank lower here without being weaker. AION 2 is still drawing a large audience: Steam’s player count API showed 221,438 players in game at 18:12 UTC on October 26.
Will the tier list change?
Not yet, based on what NC has shipped. The class sections of the October 13/14 patch notes fixed Spiritmaster Ancient Spirit summons at level 15 or below and Sorcerer Fire Wall, Cold Storm and Bittercold Wind bonuses across elevation differences. The October 20/21 notes fixed a Chanter Spinning Strike visual issue and Sorcerer Frostbite stacking on Cold Storm, and stopped Fire Wall dealing extra damage to targets without Embers. Those are bug fixes, not rebalancing. NC has posted patch notes every week since launch, so check the official update board before you reroll. FAQ
What is the best class in AION 2?
There is no single best class. For group PvE the Cleric, Chanter and Templar are S tier in both major tier lists; for PvP it is the Assassin; for solo play it is the Spiritmaster; and the Gladiator is the best all-round pick for new players.
What is the best class for solo PvE in AION 2?
The Spiritmaster, because its spirits hold enmity and heal you. The Gladiator is the best melee solo class thanks to lifesteal and ten multi-target attacks.
What is the best AION 2 class for high ping?
The Gladiator for PvP and the Sorcerer or Spiritmaster for damage, according to TechWiser. Avoid the Assassin above about 100 ms, since its combos depend on timing.
Has any AION 2 class been buffed or nerfed since the global launch?
No. As of October 26, 2026, the global patch notes from October 7, 14 and 21 list only class bug fixes. TechWiser expects a future Chanter damage nerf and an Assassin buff, but NC has not announced either.
Can you change class in AION 2?
No. Your class is fixed when you create a character, so test a class early or make an alt. Both factions, Elyos and Asmodians, share all eight classes.
