Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow with Zikel’s Blessing, Lunge Stance and Rage Burst: the AION 2 Gladiator build for PvE, PvP and leveling.

The best AION 2 Gladiator build for PvE is an AoE greatsword bruiser. Train Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow first, run Zikel’s Blessing, Lunge Stance and Rage Burst as your core stigmas, and push Overhead Slam to skill level 16, where its cooldown-removal specialty turns it into your main damage skill. For PvP, swap in Tenaciousness and Wrath Wave and take Survival Willpower over the damage passive.

This AION 2 Gladiator build guide pulls together the class data MetaBot reads from the global game client, the pick rates of top tracked Gladiators, and two independent build guides. Where they disagree, mostly on the fourth stigma slot, the trade-off is laid out so you can pick for your content. Balance status, checked October 28, 2026 at 06:10 UTC: NC’s October 7, 14 and 21 global patch notes contain no Gladiator changes.

Quick answer: best AION 2 Gladiator build

  • Core skills: Rending Blow (filler, no cooldown), Overhead Slam (payoff), Ruinous Blow (opener and damage buff), Keen Strike (MP engine), Leaping Slam (gap closer).
  • PvE stigmas: Zikel’s Blessing, Lunge Stance, Rage Burst, plus a flex slot: Lifestealing Blade (solo), Focused Block (off-tanking) or Blade Toss (party damage).
  • PvP stigmas: Zikel’s Blessing, Lunge Stance, Tenaciousness, Wrath Wave.
  • Key breakpoint: Overhead Slam at skill level 16 unlocks the Remove Cooldown specialty; Rending Blow at 16 refunds MP on critical hits.
  • Stat priority: Attack, then Critical Hit, then Accuracy Bonus, then HP and Block.
  • Daevanion: skill nodes for Overhead Slam, Rending Blow and Ruinous Blow on Nezekan, Zikel, Vaizel and Triniel first.

Gladiator skills: what each one does in the build

The Gladiator learns 12 active skills between level 1 and 16, 10 passives and 13 stigma skills, according to MetaBot’s Gladiator page, which reads its numbers from the global client. Skill points take each skill to level 10; levels above that come from gear, Arcana and Daevanion nodes, up to level 40. The skills that matter most for a build are below.

Skill Unlocks Cooldown Role in the build
Keen Strike Lv. 1 None Basic attack on up to 4 targets that restores 100 MP; your mana engine
Rending Blow Lv. 1 None MP-costing filler on up to 4 targets; fills every gap
Leaping Slam Lv. 1 15 s 20 m leap; opener and gap closer
Mocking Blade Lv. 3 20 s 3 s Knockdown that sets up Overhead Slam
Overhead Slam Lv. 4 5 s Big hit on knocked-down targets; the build’s payoff
Sword Aura Rampage Lv. 5 None Bonus damage on staggered targets
Crushing Wave Lv. 8 20 s AoE around you; pulls packs
Rush Strike Lv. 10 20 s 10 m dash; can knock down after a Dodge
Aerial Snare Lv. 12 45 s Airborne follow-up on a knocked-down target (PvP combo)
Ruinous Blow Lv. 14 45 s Biggest hit, up to 4 targets; grants Prepare for Battle (+20% PvE Damage Boost for 20 s)
Defiance Lv. 16 60 s Removes Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear; 5 s immunity

Most of the kit hits up to four enemies, which is why every source treats the Gladiator as a pack-clearing bruiser first. For a comparison with the other seven classes, see our AION 2 classes guide.

AION 2 Gladiator PvE build

Among 151 top Gladiators MetaBot tracks (level 45, highest combat power per region), 99% have Keen Strike, Rending Blow, Ruinous Blow, Overhead Slam, Leaping Slam and Rush Strike on their bar, and the same share has learned all ten passives. MetaBot labels that a low sample, so read it as what high-end players run rather than a ranking. The choices that separate builds are skill levels, specialties and stigmas.

The level 16 Overhead Slam breakpoint

AllThingsHow’s PvE build (October 12), based on Soulgrot’s Gladiator PvE video, and Destructoid’s Gladiator build agree on one breakpoint: at skill level 16, Overhead Slam unlocks a Remove Cooldown specialty. AllThingsHow stresses that you must equip it in a specialty slot; reaching level 16 alone does nothing. Both guides also name Rending Blow’s level 16 option, which restores MP on a critical hit (50 MP per AllThingsHow), as the fix for the class’s mana problems.

That makes the leveling order simple: Keen Strike and Rending Blow early, then every bonus level you can find into Overhead Slam and Rending Blow until both reach 16.

Best Gladiator stigmas for PvE

Stigma slots open at levels 22, 27, 32 and 37. Three picks are close to settled; the fourth depends on your content.

Stigma Cooldown What it does Top-player use
Lunge Stance 60 s +20% Combat Speed for 10 s 91%
Zikel’s Blessing 120 s +20% Attack and +100 Accuracy for 10 s 91%
Rage Burst 45 s Heavy single-target hit; Wounded cuts enemy Attack by 10% and raises your PvE Damage Boost 73%
Focused Block 20 s +100% Block Damage Reduction and a guaranteed Parry 62%
Lifestealing Blade 90 s AoE hit on up to 4 enemies that heals you 42%
Wrath Wave 60 s AoE around you with a 50% Knockdown chance (100% on NPCs) 26%

Effects from MetaBot’s client data; usage shares from MetaBot’s top-player sample (151 characters), checked October 28, 2026.

The fourth slot, by situation:

  • Focused Block if you end up holding the boss. It is the most common fourth pick among top players, and Experienced Counterstrike turns every Block into a party damage buff. AllThingsHow argues it is unnecessary in most current PvE because Gladiators hold threat through damage and most boss attacks can be dodged.
  • Lifestealing Blade for solo play, learning a new boss or a party with patchy healing. AllThingsHow notes its level 15 specialty cuts the cooldown by 30 seconds.
  • Blade Toss for party damage: it cuts the target’s Defense by 30% for 10 seconds from 20 m.

One real disagreement: before Overhead Slam reaches level 16, AllThingsHow runs Wrath Wave with Zikel’s Blessing, Rage Burst and Blade Toss, and calls Lunge Stance weak below its own skill level 15, when its critical-hit cooldown reduction kicks in. Top players run Lunge Stance at 91%, but they are past that point. If your Lunge Stance is still low, Wrath Wave is the better slot-filler.

Gladiator PvE rotation

Both written guides describe a priority list rather than a fixed script:

  1. Pop Zikel’s Blessing and Lunge Stance when the target will stay put for their 10 seconds.
  2. Close in with Leaping Slam and fire Ruinous Blow to start the 20-second Prepare for Battle window.
  3. Rage Burst, then Overhead Slam while it can fire. MetaBot sets it up with Mocking Blade’s Knockdown; AllThingsHow uses Rage Burst as the trigger.
  4. Fill with Rending Blow, weave Keen Strike before MP runs dry, and use Sword Aura Rampage on staggered bosses.

Gladiator macro setup

AION 2 has an in-game macro system that chains several inputs under one key. AllThingsHow’s setup, taken from Soulgrot’s video, puts Keen Strike, Rage Burst and Overhead Slam in one macro with a 10 ms delay between each, bound to right-click, so basic attacks weave between skills. Destructoid’s version macros Rage Burst, Overhead Slam and Rending Blow and leaves Keen Strike on left-click for MP. Either way, keep Dodge, Defiance and your defensive stigmas on separate keys so you can break out of the macro.

AION 2 Gladiator PvP build

MetaBot’s editorial PvP build keeps the same core and changes what decides fights: control and anti-control.

  • Skills: Leaping Slam and Rush Strike both at level 10, since the leap and the dodge-triggered rush keep you on a kiting target. Mocking Blade, Overhead Slam and Aerial Snare form the knockdown, slam and airborne chain.
  • Passive swap: Survival Willpower (+17% Status Effect Resist, plus extra damage tolerance for 5 s when you get controlled) instead of Attack Preparation.
  • Stigmas: Zikel’s Blessing, Lunge Stance, Tenaciousness (3 s immunity to damage and status effects, 150 s cooldown) and Wrath Wave (AoE knockdown for group fights).

Every class gets Defiance at level 16, so PvP strength comes from the rest of the kit. Our AION 2 best class tier list explains why the Gladiator is rated a safer PvP pick than the Assassin on high-ping connections.

AION 2 Gladiator leveling build (1-45)

MetaBot’s leveling build maxes Keen Strike, Rending Blow, Leaping Slam, Overhead Slam, Rush Strike, Ruinous Blow and three passives (Survival Stance, Identify Weakness, Attack Preparation), with Crushing Wave at 7 and Mocking Blade at 5. Its stigma order is different from endgame: Zikel’s Blessing at 22, Lunge Stance at 27, Lifestealing Blade at 32 and Rage Burst at 37, because the lifesteal AoE keeps a solo player alive. For open-world farming, AllThingsHow adds the Leaping Slam specialty that resets its cooldown on a kill, so you can bounce between packs.

Gladiator Daevanion board build

Every class has the same six Daevanion boards, and only the skills raised by the round skill nodes differ. Per MetaBot’s Daevanion data, finishing all six costs 1,034 points.

Board Opens at Points to finish Gladiator priority
Nezekan Lv. 12 134 Overhead Slam +1, Rending Blow +1, Attack Preparation +1
Zikel Lv. 20 134 Rending Blow, Overhead Slam, Ruinous Blow +1; Murderous Burst
Vaizel Lv. 30 134 Rending Blow +1
Triniel Lv. 40 168 Overhead Slam +1; skip Multi-Hit Resist for PvE
Ariel Lv. 45 232 Stat nodes only (no skill nodes)
Azphel Lv. 45 232 Stat nodes only (no skill nodes)

MetaBot’s top-player read shows the same pattern: Overhead Slam +1 on Nezekan is taken by 98% of tracked Gladiators, Rending Blow +1 on Nezekan by 97%, and the Rending Blow, Overhead Slam and Ruinous Blow nodes on Zikel by 93-96%. After the skill nodes, AllThingsHow’s order is Legendary damage nodes (Damage Boost, Critical Damage Boost), then the Attack Preparation, Impact Hit and Experienced Counterstrike passive nodes, then Attack and Critical Hit, with MP nodes only if your rotation still runs dry.

The Ariel board arrived in the October 20 (PDT) / October 21 (CEST) patch. NC’s notes say its points come from Ariel Fragments in the new Hard mode of the Krao Cave and Draupnir Expeditions (item level 2600 to enter). You morph 100 fragments into one Daevanion Crystal: Ariel, up to 30 times per character.

Gladiator stats and Theostone

MetaBot’s stat order is Attack > Critical Hit > Accuracy Bonus > HP > Block. Flat Attack scales skills that hit four targets, and the client caps Critical Hit Rate at 50%, so ease off crit as you approach it. Add Accuracy once you see misses on bosses, because a dodged Ruinous Blow wastes the whole buff window. AllThingsHow adds Weapon Damage Boost, Damage Boost and Combat Speed as the offensive bonuses to chase on gear. For the weapon, MetaBot recommends an AoE elemental Theostone, since most Gladiator attacks can proc it on up to four enemies.

Gladiator vs Templar: which tank should you play?

The Templar is the only pure tank and sits in S tier for group PvE in both rankings we compared. The Gladiator is tagged Tank and Damage, rates A for PvE, and is the easier class: MetaBot gives it 5 out of 5 for ease of play because its sustain comes from passives like Blood Absorption. Pick the Templar if you want to be the main tank in every dungeon. Pick the Gladiator if you want to solo comfortably, deal damage and off-tank when needed. If you are weighing a second MMO this season, our MapleStory Classic World guide covers its classes too.
