Witcher 3 console commands only work on PC, and only after you switch on the game’s hidden debug console. Add the line DBGConsoleOn=true to the general.ini file in binconfigbase, start the game and press the tilde key (~). Then addmoney(10000) gives you 10,000 crowns, addexp(50000) adds experience and god makes Geralt invincible.
There are no cheat codes on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Switch 2. This guide covers the PC setup, then the commands for money, XP, levels, skill points, items and god mode, all checked against several command lists. The item IDs come from the Witcher Wiki. One warning first: every list we found was written before the Remastered update (patch 5.0, September 29, 2026), so read the Remastered section before you rely on any of these commands in a 5.01 save.

Quick answer: the Witcher 3 console commands people use most
- Enable the console (PC only): add
DBGConsoleOn=trueunder[General]inThe Witcher 3binconfigbasegeneral.ini, then press~in game. - Money:
addmoney(10000)adds 10,000 crowns.removemoney(10000)takes them away. - XP and level:
addexp(50000),leveluporsetlevel(50). - Skill points:
addskillpoints(10) - Any item:
additem('item ID', amount), for exampleadditem('Horse Bag 3')for the Zerrikanian saddlebags (+100 carry weight). - God mode:
godswitches invincibility on and off.healmerefills your health. - Consoles: PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 have no cheat codes and no debug console.

How to enable the debug console in The Witcher 3 (PC)
The method below is the one on the PC Gamer and TheGamer guides, and PCGamingWiki lists the same fix. It works on Steam and GOG. We couldn’t find an article about the debug console on CD Projekt Red’s support site. It’s a debugging tool that you switch on yourself.
- Open the game folder. On Steam, right-click The Witcher 3 in your Library, then choose Manage and Browse local files. The default Steam folder is
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonThe Witcher 3. On GOG, open your install folder in File Explorer. - Go to
binconfigbaseand findgeneral.ini. - Back it up. Copy
general.inisomewhere safe before you edit it, as TheGamer suggests. - Open it in Notepad and add a new line under the
[General]section:DBGConsoleOn=true. PC Gamer adds it as a new line at the bottom of the file instead. - Save, close and start the game. Press
~to open and close the console, type a command and press Enter.
PCGamingWiki notes that the key is ~ on a US keyboard layout and can sit somewhere else on other layouts. Game Rant’s guide (updated September 27, 2026) says to try the apostrophe key (') if tilde does nothing. Game Rant also points to a Nexus Mods download called “Debug Console Next Gen 4.04v”, which replaces general.ini for you. We couldn’t open that page. Since the download only swaps that one file, according to Game Rant, the edit above gets you to the same place without installing anything.

Do console commands work in The Witcher 3 Remastered (5.01)?
Nobody has confirmed it yet. The Remastered update (patch 5.0) came out on September 29, 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. Patch 5.01 followed on October 8 for PC, PS5 and Xbox. The PC Gamer list dates from December 2020, GGRecon’s from December 2022 and Game Rant’s was last updated on September 27, 2026, two days before the remaster. None of them says it has been retested on 5.0 or 5.01. Three changes matter here:
- Skills were rebuilt. According to the patch 5.0 notes, skills now sit in a skill tree with three ranks each, and unlocking a skill needs its prerequisite skills instead of a set number of spent points. Some skills were renamed, and everyone’s skill points were reset. Skill codes for
learnskilltaken from older lists may no longer match. - Old mods broke. CD Projekt Red’s support page says mods containing XML files, script files or w3strings files stopped working with the update until their authors update them in REDkit. That matters if you use a console-enabler mod. The
general.iniline itself is a setting, not a mod. - You can go back. CD Projekt Red’s support page on older versions explains how. On Steam, open Properties, go to Betas and pick CLASSIC. On GOG Galaxy, open Manage Installation, then Configure, set the beta channel to Classic and turn off auto-updates. Epic Games Store can’t roll back. CD Projekt Red says only the latest version is fully supported.
If a command does nothing on 5.01, try it on a test save before you blame the console.
Witcher 3 money command (crowns)
| Command | What it does | Notes |
|---|---|---|
addmoney(10000) |
Adds 10,000 crowns | Change the number for any amount. Game Rant’s example is addmoney(1000000) for a million |
removemoney(10000) |
Removes 10,000 crowns | Useful if you added too much and want merchants to matter again |
XP, level and skill point commands
| Command | What it does | Caveats |
|---|---|---|
addexp(50000) |
Adds that much experience | Change the number for more or less XP |
levelup |
Raises your level by one | Repeat it for several levels |
setlevel(50) |
Sets your level to the number you choose | Game Rant’s example: setlevel(50) sets you to level 50 |
addskillpoints(10) |
Adds unspent skill points | Spend them in the skill menu as usual. Remastered skills also need their prerequisite skills |
learnskill('skill code') |
Learns a specific skill | Codes from older lists (TheGamer’s example is alchemy_s9) predate the 5.0 skill rework |
cleardevelop |
Resets your level and items and gives you starter gear | Destructive: only use it on a copy of your save |
Item commands and Witcher 3 item IDs
Use additem('item ID', amount). Put the ID in single quotes and the amount after a comma. Leave the amount out to get one item. removeitem('item ID') deletes an item. Each item page on the Witcher Wiki (Fandom) has an “Item ID” field, which the wiki’s own template describes as “the game ID to add an item to inventory”. These IDs come from those pages:
| Item | Item ID | Example command |
|---|---|---|
| Zerrikanian saddlebags (+100 max inventory weight) | Horse Bag 3 |
additem('Horse Bag 3'), then equip it on Roach |
| Ofieri saddlebags (+100 max inventory weight) | Ofir Horse Bag |
additem('Ofir Horse Bag') |
| Aerondight (Blood and Wine silver sword) | Aerondight EP2 |
additem('Aerondight EP2') |
| Iris (Hearts of Stone steel sword) | Olgierd Sabre |
additem('Olgierd Sabre') |
| Grandmaster Feline armor | Lynx Armor 4 |
additem('Lynx Armor 4') |
| Grandmaster Wolven armor | Wolf Armor 4 |
additem('Wolf Armor 4') |
| Grandmaster Ursine armor | Bear Armor 4 |
additem('Bear Armor 4') |
| Grandmaster Griffin armor | Gryphon Armor 4 |
additem('Gryphon Armor 4') |
| Superior Swallow potion | Swallow 3 |
additem('Swallow 3') |
| White Honey potion | White Honey 1 |
additem('White Honey 1') |
| Dimeritium ingot | Dwimeryte ingot |
additem('Dwimeryte ingot', 10) |
| Meteorite silver ingot | Meteorite silver ingot |
additem('Meteorite silver ingot', 10) |
| Monster essence | Monstrous essence |
additem('Monstrous essence', 10) |
| Vampire: Katakan Gwent card | gwint_card_katakan |
additem('gwint_card_katakan') |
Notice that several IDs use internal names that differ from the in-game names: Feline is Lynx, Griffin is Gryphon, dimeritium is Dwimeryte and Iris is Olgierd Sabre. Type the ID exactly as shown, because the in-game name won’t match. The wiki also lists separate New Game+ versions of the Grandmaster gear with an NGP prefix, such as NGP Lynx Armor 4.
Bulk item commands:
addkeysgives you every key in the game.addgwintcardsadds one of every Gwent card. PC Gamer says it skips the Vampire: Katakan card, which is why that card’s ID is in the table.witchcraftadds one of every item. PC Gamer warns it can take a while and may crash the game, and Game Rant also flags the crash risk.

Witcher 3 cheats on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2
There aren’t any. Every guide we checked agrees that console commands are PC-only, and none lists button codes or other cheats for PS5, Xbox or Switch 2. What consoles did get with the Remastered update is an official Mods menu, run with mod.io, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 as well as PC. Those mods aren’t console commands, and CD Projekt Red’s mod support FAQ says that on consoles, Trophies and Achievements are disabled on modded save files. Modded saves carry a mod.io cog icon. If you use cross-progression, you also need the same mods on both platforms or the save may not load correctly.
On Switch 2, the version got its own patch 5.01 on October 19. Our Witcher 3 Switch 2 patch 5.01 notes cover what changed.
Do console commands disable achievements on PC?
We couldn’t find an official answer. CD Projekt Red’s support pages only cover consoles, where any modded save loses Trophies and Achievements. None of the command guides we checked documents a rule for Steam or GOG achievements. The safe approach is to keep your main playthrough clean and use commands on a separate save.
Witcher 3 console not working? Common fixes
- Typo in the ini line. It must read exactly
DBGConsoleOn=true. At least one guide we checked prints it as “DBGConsleOn”, which does nothing. - Wrong file. The line goes in
general.iniinside the game’s ownbinconfigbasefolder. - Key does nothing. Try
~first, then', and remember that the key moves on non-US keyboard layouts. - Capital letters. Game Rant says commands need the capitals as printed (
ShowAllFT,gotoNovigrad). - Item command does nothing. Use the internal ID from the table above, in single quotes, not the in-game name.
- The line is gone. If the console stops opening after a patch or a game-file repair, open
general.iniagain and check the line is still there.
