The Witcher 3 Switch 2 patch is here: CD Projekt Red started rolling out Patch 5.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 19, 2026, announcing it at 11:04 UTC. It is a free update that adjusts image sharpening and resolution to tackle complaints about a soft picture, and it brings the Switch 2 version up to date with the fixes PC, PS5 and Xbox players got on October 8.
According to CD Projekt Red’s official patch notes, the update lands today in most regions; the Japanese version follows once it passes certification.

What the patch changes on Switch 2
Five changes in the notes apply only to the Switch 2 version:
- Adjusted image sharpening and resolution “to improve visual clarity and fidelity”.
- Fixed a rare crash when moving between in-game regions.
- Optimized cache handling for Cross-Platform Mod Support.
- Fixed HD Rumble only being felt in the left Joy-Con 2 while climbing ladders.
- Fixed map pins being placeable on the black bars around the map.
The first item is the one Switch 2 owners asked for. When CD Projekt Red released Patch 5.01 on other platforms, it said on its official X account that a Switch 2 update was in the works to bring “closer parity between all versions” and improve “image clarity and sharpness”. Eurogamer reports that players had found the game blurry, especially in handheld mode. The notes don’t give target resolutions or frame rates, so the size of the improvement is still unclear until players and analysts test it.

Gameplay and UI fixes
The rest of the patch mirrors the October 8 update for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Highlights:
- Automatically Apply Blade Oils now works even if it wasn’t enabled during the current session.
- Dodging no longer has an occasional delayed response, and sprinting while dodging no longer drains all of Geralt’s Stamina.
- The Exploding Shield skill now reflects damage, and the Synergy skill shows the right bonus values.
- Boats can no longer start drifting uncontrollably through terrain, and ladder animations are improved.
- UI fixes for a stuck “You’ve gained an ability point!” pop-up, a missing Potions tutorial and misaligned progress bars.
Visual, audio and save changes
The patch also adds Bloom, Light Shafts and Depth of Field options to the graphics settings, includes the visual pass on bloom, tone mapping and character lighting from the other versions, and promises general performance optimizations. Eurogamer notes that the Remastered update’s brightness has been one of the main points of contention since it launched on September 29. A Dynamic Resolution Scaling artifact bug is fixed, and the console fix for voiceovers becoming too quiet after using the pause menu is included.

A few other things to know before you load a save:
- The policy consent screen will appear again because of backend issues, so you need to set your preferences once more.
- My Rewards and Twitch/Bilibili Drops now appear in the Vizima chest even if it was opened before. CD Projekt Red warns some items may be duplicated and calls them “a bonus”.
- A fix for an issue that could affect save files, with measures for saves that were already affected.
How to get the update
With automatic updates on, Switch 2 downloads Patch 5.01 when it’s available in your region. To check by hand, highlight the game on the HOME Menu, press + (or −) and choose Software Update, then Via the Internet. The US eShop listing sells the Switch 2 version for $59.99 and lists about 46.7 GB of required space (checked October 19 UTC). CD Projekt Red hasn’t said how big the patch itself is.
For how other Switch 2 ports handle image quality, see Modern Warfare 4’s DLSS and Filmic SMAA modes on Switch 2 and Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 on Switch 2; this week’s releases are in new Switch 2 games for October 19-25.
What’s next
Expect hands-on comparisons of handheld and docked image quality in the coming days, which will show how much sharper the game actually looks. Further out, the next Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past, already has a Switch 2 eShop page and is slated for 2027.
