Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is out on PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 for $29.99. All 12 kaiju, Deluxe contents and what’s new.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is out now on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with 12 playable kaiju and a $29.99 standard price. Atari and original developer Pipeworks Studios launched it on November 3, and on Steam it was the No. 2 top seller in the US at 06:46 UTC on November 4, behind only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

The remaster rebuilds the 2002 arena brawler’s visuals and adds all-new online multiplayer. Players in Japan and other Asian regions are still waiting on the Switch versions, which unlock at midnight JST on November 5.

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered roster: all 12 kaiju

The full roster is in the PlayStation Blog fighter guide from November 2. Who each monster suits, per that guide:

Kaiju Best for (per the PlayStation Blog guide)
Heisei Godzilla Beginners: the default pick, high starting health, balanced stats, slow-charging energy pulse
Godzilla 2000 A slightly faster but weaker alternative to Heisei Godzilla
King Ghidorah Zoning with projectiles; slow and weak up close, but tough
Anguirus Counter-attacks: high defense, a block that damages attackers, good grapples
Megalon Hit and run: tunnels underground to dodge and grab, low defense
Gigan Fast rushdown with teleports and hook-claw strikes
Destoroyah Tank play: heavy, often unblockable energy attacks, very slow movement
Rodan Pure speed: the fastest and most mobile flyer, the weakest defense
Mecha-King Ghidorah Long-range grappling, a shield and energy-draining projectiles
Mechagodzilla Heavy ranged fire (lasers, missiles, plasma cannon) and better defense
Orga Grappling: the guide calls it the best grappler in the game
Kiryu A weapons-focused Godzilla with an Absolute Zero Cannon rage attack

Each kaiju has its own moveset, from melee combos to ranged beams and Rage Mode strikes, and the arenas are weapons too: the official store description says you can pick up and throw buildings and other landmarks.

The global launch hit at 6 a.m. PT, 9 a.m. ET and 2 p.m. UK time (14:00 UTC) on November 3, according to Atari’s launch-map post, which names Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Switch as launch platforms. What’s new in the remaster

  • Online multiplayer alongside local play for up to 4 players; the October demo offered online 1v1 quick matches.
  • Remastered visuals “from the ground up”, across 8 locations with day and night versions, including Monster Island and the alien Mothership.
  • A new unlock system: monsters, locations and gallery items can be unlocked in any order.
  • Extra single-player campaigns for each kaiju, plus Destruction Mode, where you score points by levelling the city.

On PC, the minimum spec is a GTX 1650 (4 GB), an Intel Core i7-9700 or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. A day-one Steam hotfix on November 3 turned VSync on by default. Full voice audio is English only on Steam, and Nintendo Life lists the missing Japanese voice track as a downside.

Godzilla Melee Remastered reviews so far

Nintendo Life gave the Switch 2 version 7/10. It called it a “satisfyingly faithful update” with fun multiplayer but little to do in single-player once everything is unlocked. CGMagazine’s PS5 review, shared on the game’s Steam news feed, called it “a valiant revival effort” that goes beyond a simple port.

Atari’s next remaster is Thief Remastered on December 3, and Godzilla also races this week in the Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Year Two update.

What’s next

The next date is the Switch and Switch 2 launch in Japan and other Asian regions at midnight JST on November 5, which is 15:00 UTC on November 4. Steam and nintendo.com list no post-launch kaiju or DLC beyond the Deluxe Upgrade so far. For everything else out this week, see our games coming out this week list and the gaming news live page.
