The MW4 Mobility Course now lives inside Proving Grounds, a training space in Modern Warfare 4’s Multiplayer menu where you run timed movement courses for a letter rating from C- up to S. The Clockwork weapon charm that guides tie to an S rank was a Beta-only reward and can no longer be earned. What you can earn right now is the High Voltage charm, for a B or better on the Intermediate course during the Boot Camp event, which runs until November 6.
Below is what Activision has confirmed, what came from the August Beta, and what is still unpublished, such as official S-rank cutoffs for the launch courses. Everything was checked on October 25, 2026, 08:30 UTC.

Quick answer
- Where: Proving Grounds in Multiplayer. Activision’s launch patch notes say it builds on the Beta’s Mobility Course and adds combat training exercises.
- Ratings: C- through S on each timed course. The Beta had three courses: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert.
- Clockwork charm: a Beta reward. Activision said Beta rewards “will not be available to earn” after the Beta, but anyone who unlocked one keeps it in the full game.
- Reward available now: High Voltage weapon charm, for a B or better on the Intermediate Mobility Course. It’s one of nine Boot Camp event challenges, ending November 6, according to games.gg and Gaming ProMax.
- Expert S rank time: about 56 seconds in the Beta, per Insider Gaming. Nobody has published an official cutoff for launch.

What is the MW4 Mobility Course?
Infinity Ward built the course during development to test Modern Warfare 4’s new movement. The studio then put it in the game for players. Multiplayer technical designer Jack Hoppus told Insider Gaming that developers recorded their runs and went through them frame by frame to cut their times. Beta players “beat our times pretty quickly,” he said, by stacking small optimizations such as reloading during a jump they had to make anyway.
In the Beta guide, Activision set the course in the “West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility”. Each course starts with a tutorial that shows the moves on screen using your current control settings. Then comes a timed run, with orange paint stains and arrows marking the route. The Maps and Modes launch blog describes the launch version as a “dedicated training course” of movement tutorials and timed courses, and tells players to aim for an S rating in every one.
Beta Mobility Course vs launch Proving Grounds
| Beta (August 2026) | Launch (from October 23) | |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Mobility Course (its own playlist) | Proving Grounds: Mobility Course |
| Courses | Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, each with a tutorial | Movement tutorials and timed courses, plus combat training exercises |
| Ratings | C- to S | Letter ratings, with Activision pointing players at S |
| Reward | Clockwork weapon charm (Beta challenge) | High Voltage charm (Boot Camp event, B or better on Intermediate) |
| Tactical Sprint | Default on Weekend 1, moved to the Blood Rush perk for Weekend 2 | Only with the Blood Rush perk (Perk 2) |
The Beta guide also promised “more to earn at launch” for the course. So far the Boot Camp challenge is the only launch reward reported for it.
How to get the Clockwork charm in MW4
You can’t get it any more. The Beta guide listed “Mobility Course Challenge – Reward: Clockwork Charm” with the other Beta cosmetics. It also said those rewards “will not be available to earn after the Modern Warfare 4 Beta concludes.” The Beta ended on September 1.
If you earned the charm during the Beta, it should already be in your full-game inventory, because Activision said all Beta rewards carry over at launch. Guides that still give “sub-56 seconds” as the way to unlock Clockwork are describing the Beta.
MW4 High Voltage charm: the Boot Camp challenge
Boot Camp is a launch event with nine challenges across Campaign, DMZ and Multiplayer. games.gg and Gaming ProMax list the same Proving Grounds challenge: “Score B or better on the Intermediate Mobility Course” for the High Voltage weapon charm. Both say the event ends on November 6, the date Season 1 is reported to start, and that finishing all nine challenges unlocks the F.N.G. M4 blueprint. We couldn’t find the event on the Call of Duty blog or Activision’s X accounts, so check the Events tab in your game for the exact deadline.
| Item | Requirement | Status (Oct 25) |
|---|---|---|
| High Voltage weapon charm | B or better, Intermediate Mobility Course | Available until Nov 6 (Boot Camp event) |
| F.N.G. M4 blueprint | All 9 Boot Camp challenges | Available until Nov 6 |
| Clockwork weapon charm | Mobility Course challenge (S rank, Expert) | Beta only, no longer earnable |
A B on Intermediate is a much lower bar than an Expert S. Activision’s own Beta advice was to reach “at least a B” on Beginner and Intermediate before moving on, so this challenge is the standard it already expects. The Boot Camp also has a Kill Block headshot challenge and a Combat Outpost vehicle challenge; our MW4 maps list covers both modes.
MW4 Mobility Course S rank times
Activision has never published the time needed for each rating, and the game doesn’t show the cutoff. These are the only numbers on record, and all of them come from the Beta’s Expert course:
| Benchmark (Expert, Beta) | Time | Source |
|---|---|---|
| S rank target | Under 56 seconds | Insider Gaming, games.gg |
| Run that missed S | 58 seconds | Insider Gaming staff run |
| Top run cited | 42.36 (40 targets, no fall damage, no laser hits) | Insider Gaming, crediting player Reidboyy |
Insider Gaming said the 56-second figure is “believed” to work and that it was writing before any clarification, so the real cutoff is somewhere between 56 and 58 seconds. The launch patch notes say movement transitions were rebalanced after the Beta, and Tactical Sprint is no longer on by default. Treat the Beta times as a rough guide, not a guarantee, for the launch courses.
The final time is not simply how long you take to finish. Insider Gaming and games.gg both say hitting targets lowers your time, and that fall damage and laser hits cost you, which matches the 40-target record run. Some targets sit off the main route and only make a sound when you hit them.

How to get an S rank in the Mobility Course
This advice combines Activision’s Beta tips with what the guides above found:
- Do each tutorial first. Activision’s first tip is to start every course with its tutorial. The prompts follow your own button layout, so you learn the inputs you will actually use.
- Clean runs beat fast, messy ones. In Activision’s words, “a smooth route with reliable transitions is more valuable than a fast run filled with missed movements.” A missed mantle or a fall off a ladder jump costs more time than taking a section a bit slower.
- Get a B, then improve one section at a time. The official tip is to “identify where you lose momentum and improve one section at a time.” Once you know the layout, practice the worst segment on its own, then go back to full runs.
- Find every target. The record run hit 40. Learn where the off-route targets are before you go for time, because missing them throws away seconds you can’t win back with movement.
- Avoid lasers and hard landings. Both guides treat a laser hit or fall damage as costing too much for an S. Insider Gaming says you can “conceivably” get away with one, but an S run needs to be close to perfect.
- Commit to drops. games.gg found that some of the fastest routes go down a level instead of straight ahead. Hesitating at a ledge costs more than the drop itself.
- Combine actions. Hoppus’s example was reloading during a jump you have to make anyway. Any action that doesn’t stop your movement can happen in mid-air or mid-slide.
MW4 movement techniques the course tests
The Beta guide names eight new or changed moves. These are what the tutorials teach and the timed runs chain together:
| Move | What it does (Activision’s description) | Where it helps on a course |
|---|---|---|
| Mantle Slide | Go straight from a mantle into a slide | Keeps speed over low cover instead of stopping on top |
| Mantle Momentum | Keep forward speed while clearing an obstacle | Sprint into mantles, never walk into them |
| Mantle Steering | Change direction, aim or cancel during a mantle | Lining up the next obstacle mid-move |
| Supine Slide | A longer, lower slide that ends on your back | Activision pitches it for tight spaces, so save it for low gaps |
| Pipe Climb / Fast Pipe Slide | Climb up pipes or slide down them quickly | Vertical sections with pipework |
| Hang Shimmy | Move sideways while hanging from a ledge | Positioning for a climbing jump |
| Hang Lean | Aim, lean and turn while hanging | Targets you can reach from a ledge |
| Climbing Jump | Jump in any direction from ledges, ladders and pipes | Ladder and ledge sections, where guides say missed jumps are punished |
The launch patch notes made one change that matters here: Tactical Sprint now comes only from the Blood Rush perk, in the second perk tier. Its default input is “single tap run”, so with Blood Rush on, sprinting gives you Tac Sprint for as long as your stamina lasts. Activision hasn’t said whether the course gives you a fixed loadout or uses your perks. Check before you build a class for it. Our MW4 perks list covers Blood Rush and the other 17 perks.
Settings matter as well: a wider field of view shows more ledges and targets at the edges of the screen. Our MW4 best settings guide covers FOV and other options on PC, PS5 and Xbox.
Is the Mobility Course bugged or not working?
Activision’s patch notes up to the October 24 update don’t list a Proving Grounds issue. The Beta did ship with course bugs; its patch notes include “Fixed various Mobility Course issues.” If the mode won’t load or your rating doesn’t save, check our MW4 server status and error codes page first, since online problems also affect Proving Grounds menus and challenge tracking.
