The GTA 6 map is the state of Leonida, and Rockstar has officially named six regions in it: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. That’s the full list on the “Only in Leonida” section of Rockstar’s GTA VI site as of October 27, 2026. Rockstar hasn’t released an in-game map, a map size or a comparison with GTA 5, so this guide covers only what Rockstar has actually published, region by region, plus every smaller place name it has used so far.
Quick answer (Rockstar sources checked October 27, 2026, 23:50 UTC):

Where is GTA 6 set?
Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in Leonida, a fictional US state. The PlayStation Store and Xbox Store descriptions both open with “Vice City, USA.” and describe “a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida”. Rockstar’s site sums it up as “Home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.” Leonida is widely read as Rockstar’s version of Florida, and Vice City stood in for Miami in 2002’s GTA Vice City. The store listings add the usual legal note that the game is fictional and any resemblance to real places is coincidental.
Rockstar’s marketing has already spilled into the real Miami. Our report on the GTA 6 Vice City marketing push in Miami covers the Leonida plates and the local pushback.
GTA 6 map regions at a glance
These are the six places Rockstar lists, in the order its site shows them. The taglines and descriptions are Rockstar’s; the summaries are ours.
| Region | Rockstar’s tagline | What Rockstar says is there |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Everything in Excess | The big city: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port |
| Leonida Keys | Gateway to Paradise | A tropical archipelago with beach bars and dangerous waters |
| Grassrivers | Welcome to the Wetlands | Mangrove wetlands with gators and “far deadlier predators” |
| Port Gellhorn | Live Hard | “Leonida’s forgotten coast”: a faded resort town of motels and dead strip malls |
| Ambrosia | “The battle for the health and wealth of Leonida begins here.” | The heart of the state: the Allied Crystal sugar refinery and a local biker gang |
| Mount Kalaga | Wild, Wild Country | A national landmark on the northern border: hunting, fishing and off-road trails |
Vice City
Rockstar’s line is that “we’re a long way from the ’80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America.” It describes the city as “the glamour, hustle, and greed of America captured in a single city” and names four neighborhoods and landmarks:
- Ocean Beach: pastel art deco hotels and white sand.
- Little Cuba: known for its busy panaderías (bakeries).
- Tisha-Wocka flea market: bootleg brands.
- VC Port: “the cruise ship capital of the world.”
Vice City is also home turf for several of the cast. Rockstar calls Boobie Ike “a local Vice City legend” whose empire covers real estate, a strip club and a recording studio, and Dre’Quan Priest has his sights set on “the Vice City scene.” The Ultimate Edition’s PTT Youngin$ content sends you to raid a gang compound in Southside Vice City.
Leonida Keys
Rockstar’s pitch: “The dress code is casual, the bars are loaded.” It calls the Keys a tropical archipelago where life “isn’t flashy but it’s easy,” sitting “right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in all of America.”

The Keys matter to the story. Rockstar says Jason Duval ended up in the Keys after the Army, working for local drug runners. One of them is Brian Heder, “a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys,” who runs product through his boat yard and lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties in exchange for help with shakedowns. Jason’s friend Cal Hampton spends his time listening in on Coast Guard radio traffic.
Grassrivers
“The untamable jewel of Leonida’s crown.” Rockstar describes Grassrivers as a “primordial expanse” of mangroves where “the gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries.” It’s Leonida’s swamp country.

Port Gellhorn
“This is Leonida’s forgotten coast.” Rockstar paints a once-popular vacation spot that the tourists left behind: cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls. Its new economy, in Rockstar’s words, is “fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks.” The site’s advice for visitors is to jump on a dirt bike and hold onto your wallet.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia sits “in the heart of Leonida,” where “American industry and old school values still reign supreme — whatever the cost.” Rockstar says the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs, “while the local biker gang provides almost everything else.” On Rockstar’s description, it’s the small-town, industrial counterpoint to Vice City’s neon.
Mount Kalaga
“Room to breathe on the state’s northern fringes.” Rockstar calls Mount Kalaga a national landmark “up against the state’s northern border,” with prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails. The backwoods around it are home to “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals” who live far from the government’s eyes. The Ultimate Edition’s ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy is pitched as a “Mud Club monster” built for “the backwoods of Mount Kalaga and beyond.”

Other GTA 6 locations Rockstar has named
Beyond the six regions, Rockstar’s edition and bonus descriptions name more places. Rockstar doesn’t say which region most of them belong to, so we haven’t guessed.
| Place | What Rockstar mentions there | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Shore Drive | The road the ’95 Grotti Cheetah is an “ode” to; the ’55 Vapid Stanier “cruises” it | Ultimate Edition, Vintage Vice City Pack |
| Shore Court | A personal garage “a stone’s throw” from Ocean Beach | Vintage Vice City Pack (pre-order bonus) |
| Washington Beach | Where the Shitzu Squalo boat is docked | Ultimate Edition |
| Gambit Bay | Fishing spot for the Squalo | Ultimate Edition |
| Watson Bay | Paradise Garage, with a weapon locker and a stash spot for stolen goods | Ultimate Edition |
| Lake Leonida | Rideout Customs, an off-road mod shop | Ultimate Edition |
| Stockyard | Stock 305 streetwear store and the Electric Fang Tattoo parlor | Ultimate Edition |
| Southside Vice City | The PTT Youngin$ gang compound | Ultimate Edition |
| Vercetti Estate | Source of the Hawk and Little Morgan revolvers’ styling | Ultimate Edition |
| Leonida Penitentiary | Where Lucia Caminos served time | Lucia’s character profile |
Most of these garages, shops and vehicles come with the Ultimate Edition or the Vintage Vice City Pack pre-order bonus. Our GTA 6 editions and pre-order bonuses guide breaks down what the Standard and Ultimate Editions include. One more name worth knowing: Rockstar says Lucia’s mother has dreamed of the good life “since their days in Liberty City.” That’s a backstory detail. Rockstar hasn’t said Liberty City is a place you can visit.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar hasn’t said. It calls the game “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet” in its Extended Look trailer description, but it has given no square-mile figure and no comparison with GTA 5’s Los Santos and Blaine County. Fan mapping projects have pieced together layouts from trailer footage. They’re useful for fun, but they’re estimates, not Rockstar data, so we don’t repeat their numbers here.
Is there an official GTA 6 map?
Not one you can look at online. The only official Leonida map Rockstar has announced is physical. The Rockstar Store’s Goodtime State Vice City Collection includes a “Double-Sided Souvenir Poster with Map of Leonida.” Rockstar’s description promises “a full view of the Leonida map featured on the back.” The box costs $399.99 in the US, is listed as a pre-order (checked October 27, 2026, 23:50 UTC) and doesn’t include the game. Expect the full in-game map to surface on launch day, November 19. We’ll cover it then.
Before you explore Leonida
Launch timing is staggered by region, starting in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on November 18, according to the store listings. Our GTA 6 release time, pre-load and file size guide has the unlock time for each region and the pre-load steps. Neither Rockstar nor the console stores have listed an official download size yet, so clear plenty of space before pre-load opens on November 12. For a first look at the regions in motion, watch our GTA 6 launch trailer breakdown.

The map is the state of Leonida. Vice City is its main city, and Rockstar has named five more regions: the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.
Is the GTA 6 map bigger than GTA 5’s?
Rockstar hasn’t confirmed a size or made the comparison. It only calls GTA 6 the series’ “biggest, most immersive evolution” yet. Treat any size claim you see as a fan estimate until launch.
