Grounded 2 Briefcase Code: Picnic Table Clue and Location

Illustration of a tiny explorer on a picnic table bench looking up at a giant leather briefcase with two combination locks beside a cooler
Written by Priya

The Grounded 2 briefcase code is 137 (left) and 514 (right). Where both clues are, how to climb the picnic table and podium, and what the case holds.

The Grounded 2 briefcase code is 137 on the left lock and 514 on the right lock. The briefcase sits on the north bench of the picnic table in the Picnic Table Area. The first number is written under the crossword on a newspaper on top of the picnic table. The second is on a torn scrap of paper on top of the podium in the Ceremony Area. Dial both numbers in, press the button beside each dial, and the case opens.

The code is fixed. It is not randomized per save. The same two numbers appear in guides from launch week in July 2025 through August 2026 and on the community Grounded Wiki. Obsidian’s patch notes up to the current version (Patch 0.6.0.4, October 28, 2026) only fix bugs with the case and never change the code. Checked November 2, 2026.

Quick answer

  • Left lock: 137 (the side closest to the spork, according to Destructoid).
  • Right lock: 514.
  • Where the briefcase is: on the north seat of the picnic table, next to the Picnic Fridge Cooler, in the northwest of Brookhollow Park.
  • Clue 1 (137): the newspaper crossword on top of the picnic table. The paper next to it is torn.
  • Clue 2 (514): the torn piece of that newspaper, in a back corner of the top of the Ceremony podium.
  • Inside: 500 Raw Science, a Milk Molar and candy chunks (mints, spicy and sour candy). You need higher Omni-Hammer tiers for the candy.
  • Version: current for Early Access 0.6.0.4 (Rot and Ruin update) on Steam, Xbox and PS5.

Grounded 2 briefcase code at a glance

Lock Code Where the clue is How to get there
Left 137 Newspaper crossword, top of the picnic table (Picnic Table Area) Climb inside the Picnic Fridge Cooler and come out on the tabletop. The fallen tarp also works but needs a hard jump
Right 514 Torn newspaper scrap, a back corner of the podium top (Ceremony Area) Leaning bottle to the podium’s lower hole, then the wall gap and wooden beams, then the microphone hole to the top

The Grounded Wiki says both numbers are written in purple ink. Destructoid’s screenshots show them as handwriting on newsprint, so look for scribbles, not printed text.

Where is the briefcase in Grounded 2?

The briefcase is a Site & Wonder in the Picnic Table Area, the northwestern region of Brookhollow Park. It lies on the north (right-hand) bench of the picnic table, the same bench as the Picnic Fridge Cooler. The Grounded Wiki’s in-game description reads “A locked briefcase. There must be some sensitive documents inside!” The Brookhollow Park page says it seems to belong to an Ominent worker.

You can try the two dials as soon as you reach the bench. You can enter the code without visiting either clue. Opening the case does not depend on the story.

Picnic table clue: where to find 137

  1. Go to the picnic table in the Picnic Table Area. The wiki says the table is “infested with O.R.C. creatures”: O.R.C. Weevils and Lawn Mites on the tarp, O.R.C. Ladybugs on top.
  2. Get onto the tabletop. The easiest route is the cooler on the north bench: the wiki says a small hole in its bottom leads up to the top of the table. You build up Chill inside (10 a second), so don’t stop in there. The other route is up the fallen tarp, which ends in what the wiki calls “a difficult jump”.
  3. GamesRadar+ says the newspaper is “visible right as you leave the cooler”. Destructoid places it on the northwest side of the tabletop, partly rolled up. The number 137 is written under the crossword. The torn edge next to it is your hint that the rest of the code is somewhere else.
  4. While you’re up there: the O.R.C. Transmitter for the story sits on the tabletop. GamesRadar+ also points to blueberries under the crumpled tablecloth, which you need for Blueberry Leather.

Ceremony podium clue: where to find 514

The second scrap is across the map in the Ceremony Area, the upper middle of the park where the event honoring the first game was held. The podium is the big structure in that biome. PCGamesN calls it the lectern and places it south of the Dr. Tully statue.

  1. Find the leaning bottle at the base of the podium and climb it to the hole at the bottom (Grounded Wiki route). Destructoid notes that screwdrivers, soda bottles and other junk form ramps up the sides.
  2. From that level, go through a hole in the wall and cross the wooden beams along the side of the podium to the upper compartment.
  3. Climb through the microphone hole to reach the top. If you have a spider buggy, Destructoid says you can skip part of the climb by going up a large web to one of the upper levels.
  4. Deal with the guards. Destructoid reports two O.R.C. butterflies on top, which you can fight or avoid.
  5. The scrap with 514 is in one of the back corners of the podium top. GamesRadar+ adds that the number can be seen 0:27 into Obsidian’s Early Access story trailer.

The podium top also has an O.R.C. Transmitter. The wiki lists it as optional for the current story. PCGamesN pairs the climb with the quest to hack the O.R.C. receivers, so you can grab the number on that trip.

What’s inside the Grounded 2 briefcase

The loot is modest. GamesRadar+ updated its list in August 2026, and the other sources agree with it: Destructoid saw the Raw Science under pamphlets and the Milk Molar inside a bottle, and the wiki lists “various candies as well as a Milk Molar”.

Item Amount Requirement (per GamesRadar+)
Raw Science 500 None
Milk Molar 1 Tier 1 Omni-Hammer
Fresh Mint 3 Tier 2 Omni-Hammer
Spicy Candy 3 Tier 2 Omni-Hammer
Sour Candy 3 Tier 3 Omni-Hammer

If you don’t have the Tier 3 hammer yet, open the case anyway. Take the Raw Science and the Molar now and come back for the candy. Obsidian’s Beat the Heat update notes (0.4, April 2026) fixed candy chunks landing out of reach after you break them at the briefcase. They also stopped cockroach nymphs from eating the candy inside.

Is the briefcase code the same in every save and on every platform?

Yes, as far as every source shows. The numbers are written on objects placed in the world. The wiki gives one code. Guides with their own screenshots (Destructoid, July 30, 2025; GamesRadar+, updated August 13, 2026) report the same 137 and 514. We found no report of a different combination in any save, solo or multiplayer.

The patch notes mention the briefcase several times but never the code:

  • 0.1.2 (August 2025): added missing translations for the suitcase interaction.
  • 0.2 Hairy and Scary (September 2025): stopped the briefcase’s sound from playing across the whole map.
  • 0.4 Beat the Heat (April 2026): fixed the candy problems above.
  • 0.6 Rot and Ruin (October 20, 2026): fixed the combination dials being “displaced after being unlocked” on a specific save. If your dials look wrong after opening, update to 0.6.0.4.

Grounded 2 is still in Early Access (Game Preview on Xbox). Obsidian adjusts props and resources around the park in most patches, so check the notes after a big content update.
