There are nine vaults on Crossbones Isle in Fortnite Treasure Hunters, and you open each one with a Rare Vault Key that drops at random from chests. Four player guides agree on eight spots, from the Rubber Resort beach to Loguetown’s aqueduct, and disagree on two: Fortune’s Fort and Plunder Port. Below is every reported vault with where to look, how many guides list it, and the fastest ways to get a key (checked November 4, 2026, v43.00).
Epic hasn’t published a vault list, so the locations come from Destructoid, Game Rant, Beebom and TechWiser, and we name each one. Item and patch facts come from Epic’s v43.00 notes and the Fortnite Wiki.

Quick answer: Fortnite vault locations and keys
- How many vaults: nine, according to all four guides, though they don’t list exactly the same nine.
- Vaults every guide lists: Rubber Resort, Loot Lagoon (behind the waterfall), Lantern Landing, Cursed Cavern, The $.$. Rocky, Windmill Village, Loguetown and Busy Bay.
- Disputed: Fortune’s Fort (3 of 4 guides) and Plunder Port (2 of 4; Destructoid says it has none).
- How to open one: pick up a Vault Key, follow the vault marker that appears on your map, and use the key on the door.
- Where keys come from: rare chest drops, or from a player you eliminate. Guides say the Chester and Sweet Dreams Sprites can help.
- What’s inside: Rare Treasure Chests plus a guaranteed Sprite Chest, per Destructoid and Game Rant.

All Fortnite vault locations in Treasure Hunters
The table numbers each vault the same way as our map above. “Guides” shows how many of the four guides we checked (Destructoid, Game Rant, Beebom, TechWiser, published November 1-3) list that vault.
| # | Vault | Where to look (per guides) | Guides |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rubber Resort | West side of the POI, on the beach | 4 of 4 |
| 2 | Loot Lagoon | Secret area inside the waterfall south of the POI | 4 of 4 |
| 3 | Fortune’s Fort | Underneath the fort in the north-east | 3 of 4 (TechWiser lists it with Loot Lagoon as one vault) |
| 4 | Lantern Landing | East side of the POI, under or near its lantern-lit buildings | 4 of 4 |
| 5 | Cursed Cavern | The building west of the POI | 4 of 4 |
| 6 | The $.$. Rocky | Aboard A$AP Rocky’s battleship | 4 of 4 |
| 7 | Windmill Village | Far north-east of the village (Beebom says a cliff far west) | 4 of 4 |
| 8 | Loguetown | Down in the town’s underground aqueduct | 4 of 4 |
| 9 | Busy Bay | Cliff area on the south side | 4 of 4 |
| 10 | Plunder Port | Underneath the port | 2 of 4 (Beebom, TechWiser; Destructoid says none) |
Why the guides disagree on Fortune’s Fort and Plunder Port
Destructoid and Game Rant both mark a vault at Fortune’s Fort. Destructoid says Plunder Port has none, and Game Rant’s list leaves it out. TechWiser counts Plunder Port and folds the north-east vault into its Loot Lagoon entry. Beebom names ten places but still says “nine vaults”. Until Epic or the wiki confirms it, treat the eight 4-of-4 vaults as certain and the other two as worth a look if you’re nearby. Your key’s map marker settles it in-game anyway.
One fort, three names
As we noted in our Treasure Hunters landing spots guide, Epic’s names don’t line up. Epic’s season map labels the north-east fortress Lil’ Uzi’s Stronghold, and its v43.00 notes describe a fortress called Fort Fortuna. The Fortnite Wiki and player guides call it Fortune’s Fort, which is the name we use here. Epic says Lil Uzi and Cuddle Team Leader “claim a fort of their own” on November 7, so this vault may change that day. We’ll recheck it after the update.
How to open a vault in Fortnite
- Get a Vault Key. It’s a Rare item that doesn’t stack. The Fortnite Wiki gives its in-game description as “Key to access common Sprite Vaults”.
- Check your map. Once you hold a key, the nearest unopened vault is marked on your map and minimap, Game Rant and TechWiser report. Game Rant adds that you can take the key to any vault that hasn’t been opened yet.
- Find the entrance. Destructoid says every vault except the one on The $.$. Rocky sits behind a breakable sheet wall marked by a red flag. At Loot Lagoon, TechWiser says to break the rock behind the waterfall first, then emote at the back wall to open the inner vault.
- Use the key on the door. Walk up and interact. Beebom says the key is used up when the vault opens.
- Loot fast and leave. Destructoid warns that many players head for the same vaults, so expect company.
Beebom also says each key is tied to a random vault. Game Rant and TechWiser describe the marker as the nearest unopened vault. Either way, follow the marker rather than a fixed list.
How to get a Vault Key in Fortnite Treasure Hunters
Keys are the hard part. No guide reports a fixed key spawn, and Beebom’s FAQ says outright that they spawn at random. These are the ways guides report:
| Method | What to expect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Open chests | Main source; keys are a rare drop | All four guides |
| Eliminate a key carrier | They drop it with their loot | Destructoid, TechWiser, Beebom |
| Chester Sprite | May raise your key odds from chests | Game Rant, TechWiser |
| Sweet Dreams Sprite | A level-up may drop a key | Game Rant, TechWiser |
| Busy Bay or Rubber Resort | High number of guaranteed chest spawns | Destructoid |
Epic’s own Sprite text supports the Sprite tips without promising keys. Chester “may spawn extra loot from Chests and cancels fall damage”, and Sweet Dreams “grants a random item with each level-up, bursting with Mythic loot at max level.” Epic also says chests now refill over time, so a chest-heavy POI you cleared early is worth a second pass for a key.

The Vault Key isn’t new. The Fortnite Wiki says it first appeared in Chapter 7: Season 3 (v41.00, June 6, 2026), left the game in v42.00 and came back with Treasure Hunters in v43.00.
What’s inside a Fortnite vault
Every vault holds Rare Treasure Chests and a guaranteed Sprite Chest, according to Destructoid and Game Rant. Game Rant counts three Rare Chests per vault. That makes vaults good for:
- Sprites. The guaranteed Sprite Chest is the main reason to go. Destructoid points to vaults for Legendary Sprites.
- Weapons. Game Rant calls vaults a good place for Epic and Legendary weapons.
- The Pirate Shop Access token. It comes from Treasure Chests, and vaults hold several. Our Pirate Shop Access guide covers how the token works and its limits.
Vaults don’t hold the season’s boss gear. A$AP Rocky’s Shock Rocket and the Lil’ Flacko Sprite come from beating him, as our Fortnite bosses and Mythics guide explains.
Can you loot a vault without a key?
Partly. Game Rant reports that you can destroy the Treasure Chests inside a locked vault by shooting them through the window or with an Explosive Cannon Ball, and that destroyed chests still give their treasure. Epic says the Explosive Cannon Ball is only in non-Competitive play, so this won’t work in ranked. You still need a key to step inside and reach the Sprite Chest.
Which vault should you go for?
Our pick is the Loot Lagoon vault, which is also Destructoid’s favourite. Its entrance is hidden inside the waterfall, so fewer players find it. Loguetown’s aqueduct vault is the most central, but Loguetown is a busy drop. The $.$. Rocky’s vault shares the deck with the season’s first boss, so only go there if you want a fight. If you’d rather start somewhere quiet, Rubber Resort and Busy Bay are good places to find a key and then follow the marker. These are our own calls, not Epic’s.
Vault tips for Crossbones Isle
- Use free NPC services to reach a vault. Epic says Gold Bars are vaulted and follower services are now free. TechWiser adds that NPC Rifts cost nothing too, which makes them a quick way across the map to a marked vault.
- Bring Exmarks for Sprite hunting. Epic says it reveals nearby Treasure Maps and Wanted Posters, a second route to Sprite Chests besides vaults.
- Open vaults on Mondays. Mastery Monday runs every Monday from 9 AM ET with 2x Sprite XP and 2x Sprite Dust, per Epic.
- Watch Captain’s Day. New captains arrive on November 7, 14 and 21 and take over POIs, and each one adds a new map fragment. The full calendar is in our Fortnite Treasure Hunters season guide.
FAQ
How many vaults are in Fortnite right now?
Nine on Crossbones Isle in Treasure Hunters, according to Destructoid, Game Rant, Beebom and TechWiser. Eight locations appear in all four guides. Fortune’s Fort and Plunder Port are disputed.
How do you open a vault in Fortnite?
Pick up a Vault Key from a chest or an eliminated player. The nearest unopened vault then shows on your map. Go there, break through the entrance if needed, and use the key on the door.
Where do you get vault keys in Fortnite?
Mostly from chests, as a rare drop. You can also take one from a player you eliminate. Guides say the Chester Sprite may raise your odds and a Sweet Dreams level-up can drop one. Chest-heavy POIs like Busy Bay and Rubber Resort are good places to look.
Is there a vault at Plunder Port?
The guides disagree. Beebom and TechWiser list one under Plunder Port, while Destructoid says Plunder Port, Arlong Park and The Chest have no vault. Your Vault Key’s map marker will show it if it’s real.
