Cyberpunk 2077 console mods are live: Update 2.5 went out on October 22, 2026, and CD Projekt Red’s official X account confirmed at 10:15 UTC that it is “available now on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S”. To install mods on PS5 or Xbox, open Mods from the main menu, sign in with a CD PROJEKT RED account, connect it to mod.io, then subscribe to a mod and restart the game. Nintendo Switch 2 gets the update later.
This guide covers the exact steps from CD Projekt Red’s support pages, what the mod.io link involves, which platforms are included, and the one rule that matters most on console: modded saves cannot earn trophies or achievements. For everything else in the patch, see our Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 overview.

Quick answer
- Status (checked Oct 22, 2026, 14:00 UTC): live on PC, Mac (Steam, GOG, Epic), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version get 2.5 “in the days to follow”, per CDPR.
- Where: the in-game Mods menu on the main menu, powered by mod.io. No PC, USB stick or file copying needed.
- Accounts: you must log in with a CD PROJEKT RED account and connect it to mod.io.
- Install: pick a mod, select Subscribe, restart the game, then confirm it is ticked in the Installed section.
- Catch: on console, trophies and achievements are disabled on any save created with mods enabled.
- Selection: a curated set, not the full PC library. CDPR says more mods “will become available over time”.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 out on PS5 and Xbox?
Yes. CDPR’s patch notes set October 22 for PC, Mac, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the studio’s Steam announcement “Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) is out now!” went up at 10:06 UTC, followed by the X post at 10:15 UTC. Push Square reports the PS5 download is close to 11GB. The update is free.
| Platform | Update 2.5 | In-game mods |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam, GOG, Epic) | Out Oct 22 | Yes |
| Mac (Steam, GOG, Epic) | Out Oct 22 | Yes, per the patch notes |
| Mac App Store | “In the days to follow” | Arrives with 2.5 |
| PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro | Out Oct 22 | Yes |
| Xbox Series X|S | Out Oct 22 | Yes |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | “Coming soon” | Listed, arrives with 2.5 |
| PS4 / Xbox One | Not listed | Not listed |
One detail on platforms: the patch notes on cyberpunk.net name “PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2”, while the copy CDPR posted on Steam leaves out Switch 2, and the support FAQ lists PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 without Mac. Read that as: everything that gets 2.5 gets the Mods menu, with Switch 2 waiting on the update itself.
How to install Cyberpunk 2077 mods on PS5 and Xbox
CD Projekt Red’s “Cross-Platform Mod Support – how to” page gives the process. The steps are the same on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S:
- Update the game to 2.5. The Mods menu only exists in the new version.
- Open Mods from the game’s main menu.
- Log in with your CD PROJEKT RED account. The menu requires one.
- Connect the account to mod.io and accept the terms (listed in the next section).
- Browse and pick a mod, then select Subscribe.
- Restart the game. CDPR’s wording is “restart the game, and you’re good to go”.
- Check the Installed section. The mod should appear in the list with its checkbox selected. If it isn’t ticked, it isn’t active.
After that, mod updates take care of themselves: CDPR says that “when a mod update is available, it should be installed automatically on game launch”. You do need to be online to install anything new.
mod.io account linking: what you agree to
You can’t use the Mods menu anonymously. According to CDPR’s terms page, you connect to mod.io with your CD PROJEKT RED account and accept five documents:
- mod.io’s Terms of Use
- mod.io’s Privacy Policy
- CD PROJEKT RED User Agreement
- CD PROJEKT RED Privacy Policy
- CD PROJEKT RED Fan Content Guidelines
The link works in both directions. Your subscriptions are tied to the CDPR account, so if you subscribe to mods on PC and then sign in with the same account on PS5, “you will have the exact same mods”, except for mods that aren’t approved for console. Those are skipped. To remove the connection later, sign in to mod.io with your CD PROJEKT RED account and manage it under linked accounts.
Which mods are available on console?
Only a curated selection. The patch notes call this “a first step into cross-platform modding” with “a selection of player-created mods”, and say more will be added over time. On mod.io’s Cyberpunk 2077 page, a mod that works on PS5 and Xbox carries the “Available on consoles” tag. If a mod lacks that tag, it won’t show up on your console even if you subscribed on PC.
PC-only modding through Nexus Mods and tools like Cyber Engine Tweaks is a separate route and isn’t part of the console menu. During the October 21 REDstreams, CDPR’s Paweł Sasko said the menu would include adult mods, GamesRadar reported. CDPR’s written FAQ doesn’t describe a content filter, so check each mod’s page before subscribing.

Do mods disable trophies and achievements?
Yes, on console. The patch notes say “achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing on console from a modded save file”, and the support FAQ repeats it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. How CDPR defines a modded save is the part to watch: “Any save created while mods were enabled is considered a modded save.” Those saves get a mod.io cog icon in the Load Game menu, which 2.5 also reorganizes so saves are grouped by playthrough.
The practical takeaway, if you still have trophies to earn: keep a clean save from before you enable anything, or start a separate playthrough for modding. CDPR doesn’t say that disabling mods restores trophies on a save that was already modded, so assume it doesn’t.

Cross progression and offline play with mods
If you move saves between PC and console, CDPR says you “need to have the same set of mods enabled on both platforms”. A mod that’s missing or not approved on the target platform can stop the save from loading correctly. So if you mod on PC and plan to continue on PS5 or Xbox, stick to mods with the “Available on consoles” tag.
Offline, a modded save loads only when every mod it needs is already installed. If one is missing, you have to reconnect and install it before the save will load.
How to turn off mods in Cyberpunk 2077
You manage mods in the same in-game menu. CDPR’s mod troubleshooting page gives two options:
- Disable a mod: in the Installed section, a ticked checkbox means the mod is enabled, so clear it to switch the mod off.
- Unsubscribe: removes the mod from your subscriptions, which are synced across platforms on your CDPR account.
Two warnings from CDPR come with that. First, “the consequences of mod usage may be kept in save files”, so a problem can survive after you disable the mod, and you “might need to load an earlier save prior to mod usage”. Second, the studio advises “against installing mods that alter quest structure mid-playthrough”. If you plan to try new content like the Clampdown quest or the Double Trouble dual-wield perks, finish those on a clean save first.
Mods broke my game: what to do
CDPR says it supports the Mods menu but can’t provide game support for issues that stem from mods, and lists crashes, failure to launch, broken quest progression and missing UI elements as typical results. Its order of steps:
- Disable or unsubscribe your installed mods in the Mods menu and test again.
- If the problem goes away, tell the mod’s creator in the comments on its mod.io page.
- If it persists with mods off, load a save from before you used mods.
- Report bad mod content in the Mods menu with More… then Report, or through mod.io/report.
Game updates are the usual trigger for breakage, which is why automatic mod updates matter.
Same system as The Witcher 3
This is the setup CDPR already uses for The Witcher 3. Its Witcher 3 mod support page describes the same main-menu Mods entry, CDPR account plus mod.io link, Subscribe-and-restart flow and console trophy rule. If you have used mods in The Witcher 3 on Switch 2 or other consoles, nothing here will surprise you. It is also a clear contrast with console ports that ship without mod support at all, like BeamNG.drive’s PS5 early access.
Update 2.5 itself is built around the anime: for the show’s release details and cast, see our Edgerunners 2 release date guide.
