There are 17 active official Borderlands 4 SHiFT codes as of November 4, 2026. One of them gives Golden Keys: CZKJJ-35RH6-T9K9C-9TJJT-SXRCT adds 20 Golden Keys in Borderlands 1, 2, The Pre-Sequel, 3 and 4 and expires on November 16, 2026. The other 16 unlock Vault Hunter skins, heads, drone skins and one gear pack, and all of them run until December 31, 2030. Every code below comes from Gearbox’s own posts on Steam, Bluesky or X, and we list the expiry Gearbox gave for each one.

Gearbox posted this code on Bluesky and X on November 2 to celebrate the series passing 100 million units sold. According to the small print on the card, you need a copy of a participating game, you get one redemption per account, and the code expires November 16, 2026. No time or time zone is given, so redeem it by November 15 to be safe. It’s the largest key drop of the year so far: Pitchford’s weekly codes this year have typically given 3 keys. All active Borderlands 4 cosmetic SHiFT codes
These codes come from Gearbox’s Community Challenges, the Horrors of Kairos event and the 12 Days of Mercenary Day giveaway in December 2025. Gearbox lists all of them with “Must redeem by December 31, 2030”, so they’re still worth redeeming if you missed them. Gearbox describes most of these skins as “usable by all four Vault Hunters”, which means Vex, Rafa, Amon and Harlowe.

Some of these codes come with conditions:
- Mint Chipset and Like Vermillion Bucks: anyone can redeem them, but Gearbox says you need to own Loveless the Hacker (Story Pack 2) or Story Pack 1 to equip the skin on Loveless or C4SH. If you buy the DLC later, it’s worth redeeming the code now.
- THFB3-R9XKK… (Gourd reissue): Gearbox added this code to the January 29, 2026 update notes for players whose original Horrors of Kairos code failed. The notes say it “will not reward anything” if you already received the head and weapon skin.
- Break Free Pack shield: according to the launch-weekend post, you claim the Legendary Ripper Shield from the Reward Center in your Inventory (under Equipment). It scales to your level, with a minimum of level 25, when you claim it, so claiming it later at a higher level gets you a higher-level shield.
- PlayStation note: Gearbox’s Bluesky posts for Mercenary Day codes J9XTB… and 3ZXJB… carried the line “*PlayStation offer for PS+ members only”. Its January 5 Steam roundup of the same codes doesn’t repeat that note, so PS5 players without PS Plus may find those two don’t apply.
One official code with an unclear expiry
On July 29, 2026, Randy Pitchford posted BZR3T-TXHZB-KXTJ5-3JTJ3-CZ5WH for Golden Keys in Borderlands 4 with “Expires 4/26”. He didn’t give a year. Since the post went up in July 2026, April 2026 would already have passed, so the date may mean April 26, 2027. We couldn’t confirm that, so it isn’t counted in the active list. Trying it costs nothing: an expired code just returns an error.

How to redeem SHiFT codes in Borderlands 4
Gearbox’s SHiFT User Guide lists two ways to redeem a code. Both need a free SHiFT account.
Redeem in-game
- Launch Borderlands 4 with an internet connection and sign in to SHiFT when the game asks.
- Open SHiFT from the main menu and go to the Rewards tab.
- Type or paste the code, including the hyphens, and confirm.
- Golden Keys go straight into your currency. Gearbox says redeemed keys are “added directly to the currency in your inventory”. Gear rewards like the Break Free Pack shield wait in the Reward Center in your Inventory.
Redeem on the SHiFT website
- Go to shift.gearboxsoftware.com and sign in. You can use email, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation or Epic Games.
- Under Gaming Platforms, link every platform you play on.
- Open the Rewards tab and enter the code. According to Shacknews, the site then asks which platform should get the reward.
- Start the game. The reward appears the next time you log in.

Why a Borderlands 4 SHiFT code is not working
- Expired: Golden Key codes from Pitchford usually last about a week, sometimes longer. Check the dates above.
- Already redeemed: each code works once per SHiFT account, not once per platform.
- Wrong game or no copy: the 20-key code needs a copy of a participating game. The skin codes need Borderlands 4, and the Loveless and C4SH skins need their DLC to equip.
- Typos: codes are five groups of five characters. Copy and paste them from this page or Gearbox’s post.
- Still stuck: the SHiFT User Guide points to 2K Support. Include the SHiFT Support ID from your account page.
Where to use Golden Keys in Borderlands 4
According to Shacknews, Golden Keys open the golden chests in Belton’s Bore, The Launchpad, Carcadia and The Lockaway, which are marked on the map with a skull icon. Each chest opening uses one key, and the loot drops around your current level. That’s why the usual advice is to save keys until you reach the level cap. With 20 keys arriving in one go, saving most of them for your endgame build is the efficient choice.
How often Gearbox releases new SHiFT codes
Gearbox’s official codes come from three places:
- Golden Keys: Randy Pitchford’s X account (@DuvalMagic), usually 3 keys, roughly weekly, each with an expiry date.
- Cosmetics: Community Challenge rewards on the official Borderlands accounts and Steam news. The challenge runs over a weekend, and the code follows early the next week.
- Events: holiday giveaways, like the 12 Days of Mercenary Day, which ran from December 20, 2025.
Version 1.11, released October 22, came without a code. The 20-key code arrived with Gearbox’s November 2 community message.
