WoW Forever PvP, in short: progression has two parts. Honor is a currency you spend on PvP gear. Rank Points move you up 14 ranks toward High Warlord (Horde) or Grand Marshal (Alliance), with a weekly cap. The new battleground is Darkspear Islands, a 15v15 capture-point map with a central flag for levels 30-60, off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh. One launch-week catch: Blizzard’s Known Issues list says PvP vendors are temporarily unavailable in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Dalaran.
Everything below comes from Blizzard: the How PvP Progression in World of Warcraft: Forever Works and Battle for the Darkspear Islands articles (both October 7), the Legacy System and Ruleset articles, the November 5 hotfixes, and staff posts on the official forums. No beta datamines; “our pick” means GamingRoute’s opinion. Checked November 6, 2026, 05:40 UTC.
Table of Contents
Quick answer
- Two currencies of progress: Honor (spend it on gear) and Rank Points (raise your rank, which unlocks what you can buy).
- Ranks: 14, from the original game’s rank names up to High Warlord or Grand Marshal. Rank Points have a weekly cap.
- Gear: a blue Honor set and an epic set. To get an epic piece, you upgrade the blue piece with an Emboldened Seal. Each Seal needs a minimum rank.
- Darkspear Islands: 15v15, levels 30-60, four capture points plus a central flag. The first team to 2,000 points wins.
- How to queue: talk to a battlemaster in any major capital city, or take the portal at your faction’s base in the Barrens (Merchant Coast for Horde, Northwatch for Alliance).
- Legacy points from PvP: up to 12 account-wide points from ranks, battleground reputations and the weekly season tasks.
- Right now: PvP vendors are listed as temporarily unavailable (Known Issues, last updated November 5). You can still earn Honor and Rank Points by playing.
How WoW Forever PvP progression works
Blizzard says it kept the original Honor System’s structure but simplified it under a design pillar it calls “Approachable and Familiar”. The table shows how the two parts differ.
| Honor | Rank Points | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A currency you spend | Progress toward your next rank |
| How you earn it | Defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, PvP quests | Battlegrounds and PvP quests |
| Holiday-week bonus | Yes, more Honor in the highlighted battleground | Yes, an extra boost in holiday-week battlegrounds |
| Season tasks | Weekly journey tasks grant Honor | The same tasks grant Rank Points |
| Limit | An Honor cap (25,000 in the October 1 beta notes; no live number published since) | A weekly cap that rises each week |
| What it buys or unlocks | The blue and epic PvP gear sets | Rank rewards, including the Emboldened Seals for epic upgrades |
Blizzard says it evened out Honor gains across battlegrounds, so players don’t feel pushed into Alterac Valley just for Honor.
The weekly Rank Points cap
Blizzard’s article confirms that ranks have a weekly cap but doesn’t give the numbers. The only figures are in that article’s screenshot of the Player vs. Player panel, taken before launch: an unranked “Civilian” character shows 0 / 750 Rank Points toward Rank 1, and the panel says “each week, the Rank Points cap is increased, up to a maximum of 24750 for Rank 14.” Treat those as pre-launch UI values. Blizzard hasn’t restated them for the live game.

To check your own progress, open the Character Pane (default key C) and select the Player vs. Player tab on the right. It shows your rank, your current Rank Points and which rewards you can buy at your rank.
WoW Forever PvP rank rewards (ranks 1-14)
This is Blizzard’s full list of rank requirements for PvP rewards.
| Rank | Reward unlocked |
|---|---|
| 1 | Tabard |
| 2 | PvP Trinket |
| 3 | Cloaks |
| 4 | Necklace |
| 5 | Combat Potions |
| 6 | Tabard |
| 7 | Battle Standard |
| 8 | Epic Bracers / Epic Belt Upgrade Token |
| 9 | Epic Boots Upgrade Token |
| 10 | Epic Gloves Upgrade Token |
| 11 | Mounts |
| 12 | Epic Legs / Epic Shoulders Upgrade Token |
| 13 | Epic Chest / Epic Helm Upgrade Token |
| 14 | Epic Weapons |
Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 also each give one Legacy Point (see the Legacy section below).
WoW Forever PvP gear: blue set, epic set and Emboldened Seals
You buy two sets of PvP gear with Honor: a blue-quality set and an epic-quality set. An epic piece isn’t a separate purchase. You need the blue piece for that slot plus an Emboldened Seal, and each Seal has a rank requirement before you can buy it. That’s what the “Upgrade Token” lines from Rank 8 onward in the table above unlock.
Blizzard also added new and reworked items for specs that had no PvP gear in the original game. Its example is the Shaman, who now has healer, melee and caster PvP sets.
Item stats and Honor prices: Blizzard hasn’t published a price list. The October 1 beta notes say Honor costs for PvP gear and upgrade tokens went up by about 50% for most items, and the Honor cap went from 15,000 to 25,000 to match. We don’t copy prices from beta datamines.
Our pick: what to spend Honor on first
This is GamingRoute’s opinion, based only on Blizzard’s rank table above. Rank Points are capped each week, so the epic upgrades arrive one rank band at a time. Your Honor isn’t limited the same way, apart from the overall cap.
- Rank 2 PvP Trinket first. It’s the earliest combat item on the list. The other early rewards are tabards, cloaks and a necklace.
- Then the blue pieces for bracers, belt, boots and gloves. Their epic tokens unlock first (ranks 8-10), so those blue pieces are the first ones you can upgrade.
- Blue legs, shoulders, chest and helm after that. Their tokens come at ranks 12-13.
- Don’t sit at the Honor cap. A cap leaves extra Honor nowhere to go, and since Blizzard’s November 2 notes, kills at the cap no longer show any Honor gained. Spend before you reach it, once vendors are back.
Darkspear Islands battleground: map, rules and level range
Darkspear Islands is the new battleground. The Darkspear Raiders (Horde) and the Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance) fight over capture points and a central flag.
| Detail | Darkspear Islands (Blizzard’s overview) |
|---|---|
| Size | 15 vs 15 |
| Type | Capture points plus a flag capture |
| Location | Off the shores of Dustwallow Marsh |
| Levels | 30-60 |
| Win condition | First team to 2,000 points |
| Factions | Darkspear Raiders (Horde), Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance) |

How to win on Darkspear Islands
- Hold capture points. There are four. The more your team controls, the faster it scores.
- Run the flag. Pick up the flag in the middle of the map and bring it to a base your team has captured for extra points. A flag run only scores if you already hold a base, so taking a point comes first.
- Launch changes: Blizzard’s November 2 notes say dropping the flag no longer puts the “Recently Dropped Flag” debuff on the player who dropped it. The November 5 hotfixes stopped Plainsrunning from stacking in the preparation phase. Plainsrunning can’t stack at all any more, and its stacks are cancelled when you carry a flag.
How to queue for Darkspear Islands in WoW Forever
- From a city: talk to a battlemaster in any major capital city.
- From the Barrens: go to your faction’s base in the Barrens (Kalimdor). For the Horde, that’s the Darkspear Raiders base at the Merchant Coast. For the Alliance, it’s the Theramore Expeditionary Force base at Northwatch. Each base has a portal that takes you into the battle.
- Pick up the quests while you’re there. Both bases have battleground quests and reputation vendors.
Battlegrounds can mix players from different Rulesets, but Hardcore is excluded once it launches, according to Blizzard’s Ruleset article. A Normal-ruleset player can still face PvP-ruleset players here.
Darkspear Islands rewards: Marks of Honor, reputation and the tabard
Each side has its own reputation: Darkspear Raiders or Theramore Expeditionary Force. At higher reputation levels their vendors sell gear and consumables, including trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons and armor pieces. You build reputation by turning in Marks of Honor for the reputation quests. At Exalted, a short questline unlocks that faction’s exclusive tabard.
Battleground Marks of Honor stack up to 30, up from 20, a change in Blizzard’s October 15 beta build notes. Blizzard hasn’t published the item list per reputation level, so we don’t list one.

PvP seasons, the Field of Honor journey and Legacy Points
During a PvP season you earn Honor and climb ranks as usual. Each season also has a journey of weekly tasks that grant Honor and Rank Points. Three of those tasks each season also give a Legacy Point. Because they’re part of the Legacy System, Blizzard says they stay available in later seasons.
The Legacy System article lists the PvP category in full. It’s worth 12 of the 65 Legacy Challenges.
| PvP Legacy Challenge | Legacy Points |
|---|---|
| Reach ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 | 5 |
| Reach Exalted with each battleground reputation | 4 |
| Complete the week 4, 7 and 10 quests in the Field of Honor PvP Season’s Journey | 3 |
| Total | 12 |
Two Legacy Perks relate to PvP. For Great Honor increases Honor gains. High Alert increases stealth detection outside battlegrounds, so it doesn’t help inside them. At launch each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points. Blizzard also says PvP Legacy Challenges can’t be completed in Hardcore. Our full breakdown is in the WoW Forever Legacy System guide.
Blizzard hasn’t published a start or end date for the first Field of Honor season in its launch posts or staff forum posts we checked.
World PvP: Normal vs PvP Ruleset
WoW: Forever has Rulesets instead of a realm list. Your Ruleset decides how open-world PvP works.
| Ruleset | Open-world PvP | Both factions? |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | You fight other players at your own discretion | Yes |
| PvP | You are almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players | No, one faction only |
| Roleplay | Blizzard describes only its naming and behavior rules, not a PvP rule | Yes |
| Roleplay PvP | Like PvP: almost always at risk from opposing characters, plus roleplay rules | Blizzard only confirms the one-faction rule for the PvP ruleset |
| Hardcore (after launch) | Separate ecosystem; PvP Legacy Challenges don’t count there | Yes |
Once you create an Alliance character on the PvP Ruleset, you can’t create a Horde character there, and the reverse is also true. Blizzard says it will use faction-balance tools like the ones from Season of Discovery, where new character creation for one faction could be limited for a while. You can’t move a character between Rulesets. Grouping, dungeons and raids only work within the same Ruleset and faction, so agree on both with friends before you start (see our WoW Forever races and classes guide for faction picks).
PvP fixes since launch
| Date (Blizzard post) | PvP change |
|---|---|
| October 8 build notes | Critical strikes in PvP no longer have reduced efficacy |
| October 15 build notes | Battleground Marks of Honor stack to 30 (was 20) |
| November 2 notes | No “Recently Dropped Flag” debuff on the player who drops the Darkspear flag; Hostile Analog Targeting can select enemy players whether or not they’re PvP flagged; PvP scoreboard updated; no Honor text when you kill at the Honor cap |
| November 5 hotfixes | Plainsrunning can’t stack and is cancelled when carrying a battleground flag |
| Known Issues (updated November 5) | PvP vendors temporarily unavailable in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Dalaran |
If the game seems down rather than just the vendors, check our WoW Forever server status page.
Where PvP fits while you level
Darkspear Islands opens at level 30, so you can earn Honor and Rank Points mid-leveling. For the rest of the 1-60 path, see our WoW Forever leveling guide, the WoW Forever dungeons by level list and the professions guide (Camp Feature buffs). Raids open on December 9, per Blizzard.
FAQ
Is there a WoW Forever PvP tier list?
Not from Blizzard. It hasn’t ranked classes for PvP, and we don’t publish a class tier list we can’t back with official data. What Blizzard has confirmed is new PvP sets for specs that lacked them, such as healer, melee and caster sets for Shaman.
Where is the WoW Forever PvP vendor?
Blizzard’s Known Issues list names PvP vendors in Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Dalaran, and says they’re temporarily unavailable. Blizzard’s PvP panel screenshot says Horde rewards are bought at the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar. Darkspear Islands reputation vendors are at the Merchant Coast (Horde) and Northwatch (Alliance) bases in the Barrens.
How do you get to Darkspear Islands in WoW Forever?
Queue through a battlemaster in any major capital city, or take the portal at your faction’s base in the Barrens: Merchant Coast for the Horde, Northwatch for the Alliance. You need to be level 30-60.
What is the max PvP rank in WoW Forever?
Rank 14, the top of Blizzard’s reward table, which unlocks the Epic Weapons. The ultimate titles at the end of the climb are High Warlord for the Horde and Grand Marshal for the Alliance.
Is there a WoW Forever PvP tournament or arena?
We found none in Blizzard’s WoW: Forever news or staff forum posts as of November 6. The PvP progression article covers battlegrounds, ranks and seasons only.
