The WoW Forever Legacy System is Blizzard’s account-wide horizontal progression: you complete 65 Legacy Challenges for one Legacy Point each, spend up to 16 points per character on perks in three trees (Professions, Adventure, Resourcefulness), and your account total unlocks four cosmetic Legacy Rewards, topped by the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. It opens with your first Legacy Point, which for most players comes when a character hits level 25, and you open the window with the shield icon or the Y key.
Everything below comes from Blizzard’s Legacy System overview, its launch articles and official beta notes, with no datamined values. The perk picks are our own suggestions. Checked November 5, 2026, 05:40 UTC.
Table of Contents
Quick answer
- Legacy Challenges: 65 in total across six categories (Classes 27, Tradeskills 18, PvP 12, Adventure 2, Dungeons 3, Raids 3). Each one gives 1 Legacy Point.
- Account-wide: points are shared by every non-Hardcore character on your Battle.net account and carry across rulesets.
- Legacy Perks: 21 perks, 7 in each of three trees. Each character spends points independently, capped at 16 per character at launch.
- No alts required: Blizzard says one character can earn up to 29 points, well over the 16-point cap.
- Legacy Rewards: Replica Ironforge Air Rifle (toy), Spectral Bear Cub (pet), Spectral Bear Tabard and Reins of the Spectral Bear (mount). Blizzard’s screenshot puts them at 15, 25, 40 and 55 points.
- Hardcore: not live yet. When it arrives, it gets 12 extra Hardcore-only challenges, and normal-ruleset progress won’t carry into it.

How to unlock the Legacy System in WoW Forever
The system unlocks as soon as you earn your first Legacy Point. Blizzard lists three ways to get there:
- Reach level 25 on any character (the usual route).
- Reach 150 skill in a non-gathering primary profession.
- Explore the entire world map on one character.
Then click the Legacy icon (the shield on the menu bar) or press Y. The window has three tabs: Legacy Challenges, the Progress Track for rewards, and the Legacy Tree for perks. If you’re still planning your first character, our WoW Forever leveling guide with zones by level maps the full 1-60 route.
All 65 Legacy Challenges and how many points each category gives
Blizzard says challenges “work similarly to achievements” but focus on character progression. The full list:
| Category | Points | How you earn them |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | For each of the nine classes, reach level 25, 45 and 60 (3 points per class) |
| Tradeskills | 18 | For each non-gathering primary profession (Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring), reach 150, 225 and 300 skill |
| Player vs. Player | 12 | PvP ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5); Exalted with each Battleground reputation (4); the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor PvP Season’s Journey (3) |
| Adventure | 2 | Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline |
| Dungeons | 3 | Defeat the final boss of every level 15-25 dungeon, every level 26-45 dungeon and every level 46-60 dungeon |
| Raids | 3 | Defeat Onyxia; defeat all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; defeat all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses |
| Total | 65 |
A few details matter for planning:
- Gatherers earn nothing here. Herbalism, Mining and Skinning don’t count toward Tradeskills, and neither do Cooking, Fishing or First Aid. Our WoW Forever professions guide goes through what that means for your profession pair.
- Raid points wait until December 9. Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia’s Lair open that day, according to Blizzard’s raid overview, and Onyxia needs the Drakefire Amulet attunement first. Until then, 62 of the 65 points can be earned.
- PvP journey points are time-gated. The PvP progression article says three weekly tasks per season grant a Legacy Point, and because they’re tied to the Legacy System they stay available in later seasons. Missing a season doesn’t lock you out.
- The new battleground has its own reputation. Blizzard’s Darkspear Islands article gives the 15v15 map two reputation tracks, the Darkspear Raiders (Horde) and the Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance).
- Dungeon brackets aren’t itemized yet. Blizzard hasn’t said which dungeons count toward each bracket; its dungeon overview lists the nine new ones, from Hall of Thanes (13-18) to Shaper’s Terrace (58-60).
How many Legacy Points can one character earn?
Blizzard’s own breakdown is 29 points without making a second character, against a spending cap of 16. Blizzard gives two reasons for the cap: new players don’t fall too far behind, and alts stay optional.
| Source (one character) | Max points |
|---|---|
| Leveling one class to 25, 45 and 60 | 3 |
| Two crafting professions to 150, 225 and 300 | 6 |
| All PvP challenges | 12 |
| Adventure | 2 |
| Dungeons and raids | 6 |
| Total | 29 |
One non-PvP route to all 16 spendable points on a single character (our math, using Blizzard’s numbers): 3 from leveling, 6 from two crafting professions, 2 from Adventure and 3 from dungeons makes 14, leaving 2 to come from PvP ranks or raids after December 9. Alts get there faster because every new class pays 3 more points that all your characters share.
Legacy Perks: every perk in the three trees
Each character spends the shared points on its own perks, so a crafter alt and a PvP main can differ completely. Blizzard’s descriptions, in our words:
| Tree | Perk | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Professions | Working Overtime | Higher chance of a skill-up in all tradeskills, including class skills like Lockpicking |
| Professions | Bountiful Harvest | Find extra Scarce resources when mining, herbing or skinning |
| Professions | Bartering | Lower gold prices on vendor purchases |
| Professions | Performance bonus | Sometimes more Merchant’s Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde) |
| Professions | Master Chef | Chance for cooking recipes to make extra results |
| Professions | Luremaster | Chance to fish up extra fish |
| Professions | Dedicated Study | Daily cooldown that speeds up tradeskill gains, or gives free Elemental Essences once all are at 300 |
| Adventure | Well Rested | Higher rested XP cap, and rested XP builds faster |
| Adventure | Thrill of Adventure | Restore a little health and mana after every non-trivial kill |
| Adventure | High Alert | Better stealth detection outside battlegrounds |
| Adventure | Field Guide | Shorter 1-hour cooldown on placing camping features |
| Adventure | Field Medicine | Shorter Recently Bandaged debuff (not in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds) |
| Adventure | Talented | Unlock talent points up to 5 levels earlier |
| Adventure | Frequent Flier | Cheaper, faster flights |
| Resourcefulness | Gourmand | Longer food buffs |
| Resourcefulness | The Quick and the Dead | Faster corpse runs, and party/raid buffs cost nothing after a resurrection |
| Resourcefulness | Reinforce | Less durability damage when you die |
| Resourcefulness | For Great Honor | More Honor from PvP |
| Resourcefulness | Permanence | Longer party, raid and camping buffs |
| Resourcefulness | Diplomat | Faster reputation gains |
| Resourcefulness | Reagent Economy | Class abilities stop needing vendor reagents, and tier 1 camping features need no materials |

Changes Blizzard made during the beta
The official beta development notes (written by Blizzard staff, not datamined) show a few tweaks since the September overview:
- Bartering no longer discounts training and repairs. That was fixed as a bug (October 15 notes), so it only affects vendor purchases.
- Master Chef and Luremaster were moved one row left in the tree. Blizzard says they “were already available with only 5 points committed”, which shows deeper perks unlock as you put points into that tree.
- The Quick and the Dead now affects more Priest spells, and the final pre-launch notes (November 2) say it makes the Paladin’s Righteous Fury free.
- Reagent Economy had a bug fixed that let Warlocks summon an Incubus without a Soul Shard.
Can you respec Legacy Perks?
Yes. Blizzard’s perk tooltip screenshot says “Right click to unlearn”, and the October 8 beta notes mention a Legacy re-spec cost. That cost dropped to 1 silver for testers and fell “by one re-spec per hour”, a rule Blizzard compares to class talent re-specs and says “only applies during the Beta”. Blizzard hasn’t published the live re-spec price, so check the in-game cost before you rebuild a character.
Best Legacy Perks: our suggested picks
These are GamingRoute’s suggestions based on Blizzard’s perk descriptions, not official recommendations. Blizzard hasn’t published per-perk point costs, so treat them as priorities rather than exact builds.
| Your goal | Perks to look at first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling an alt fast | Talented, Well Rested, Frequent Flier, Thrill of Adventure | Earlier talents and more rested XP stack up over a whole 1-60 run, and less downtime between pulls adds up. These are also the perks you’d swap out at 60. |
| Crafting and gold | Working Overtime, Dedicated Study, Bartering, Performance bonus | Faster skill-ups also earn Tradeskills challenge points sooner, and Merchant’s Favor feeds the new trade factions |
| Gathering | Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Frequent Flier | More Scarce resources per node, plus cheaper travel between routes |
| Dungeons and raids (from December 9) | Gourmand, Permanence, The Quick and the Dead, Reinforce, Reagent Economy | Longer buffs, faster wipe recovery and lower repair bills. Reagent Economy helps most on classes that use vendor reagents. |
| PvP and ranking | For Great Honor, Reinforce, High Alert, The Quick and the Dead | More Honor per match and cheaper deaths. High Alert only works outside battlegrounds, so it’s for world PvP. |
| Reputation grinds | Diplomat, Permanence | Diplomat raises reputation gains, which should help with the four Battleground reputation challenges as well as faction grinds |
Our general rule: spend your first points on whatever you’re doing right now, then respec. A level-60 main gets nothing from Talented or Well Rested, while an alt fresh off the starting zone gets a lot from both.
Legacy Rewards: the Spectral Bear mount, pet, tabard and toy
Rewards come from your account’s total Legacy Points, separately from the perks you spend them on. Blizzard says the points “accumulate on your entire account”, and its Progress Track screenshot shows 30 points earned, the first two rewards claimed and 5 points still unspent in the perk tree.
| Legacy Reward | Type | Points (Blizzard screenshot) | What it takes (our math) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replica Ironforge Air Rifle | Toy: join a shootout with other players; it stuns them and keeps score | 15 | One character has 14 non-PvP points before December 9, so add one PvP rank, a raid or an alt |
| Spectral Bear Cub | Pet, Legacy-exclusive | 25 | One character can reach it only with at least 8 PvP points; otherwise alts |
| Spectral Bear Tabard | Tabard, Legacy-exclusive | 40 | Over the 29 one-character maximum: needs alts |
| Reins of the Spectral Bear | Mount, Legacy-exclusive | 55 | 55 of 65 points: several classes to 60 plus extra crafting professions |
Blizzard’s text doesn’t spell out the thresholds. They come from the September screenshot below and could change. Blizzard says the Spectral Bear Cub was inspired by the Dwarven Hunter and his companion in the WoW: Forever cinematic. The November 2 notes also changed the Air Rifle: it now works on allies who have one equipped, the stun lasts 2.5 seconds (was 3) and the quitter debuff lasts 40 seconds (was 5 minutes).
For the mount, the other 26+ points beyond one character’s 29 come from two places: the level 25/45/60 milestones of the other eight classes (24 points) and the other four crafting professions (12 points). If you’re picking alts, our WoW Forever races and classes guide lists every race and class combination, including the Skyborne.

Legacy System and Hardcore
Hardcore isn’t live yet; Blizzard says it arrives “sometime after launch”. When it does, the rules are one-way:
- Challenges completed on Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Roleplay PvP won’t show up in Hardcore.
- A challenge earned in Hardcore counts in every other ruleset too.
- PvP challenges can’t be done in Hardcore, so Blizzard is adding 12 Hardcore-specific Legacy Challenges.
Blizzard’s ruleset article adds that Legacy Points and collections are account-wide across rulesets, with Hardcore as the exception above.
What’s next for the Legacy System
Blizzard calls the system “in its infancy” and plans new Legacy Challenges in every content release, new perks in the existing trees, new trees later, Hardcore-specific challenges and perks, and more rewards on the Progress Track. For launch issues and queues, see our WoW Forever server status page and the release time guide.
FAQ
Do I need alts for the Legacy System?
Not for perks. Blizzard says one character can earn up to 29 points, more than the 16-point spending cap. The two higher rewards (Spectral Bear Tabard at 40 and the mount at 55 in Blizzard’s screenshot) do need points from more than one character.
When do you get your first Legacy Point?
For most players it comes at level 25. You can also unlock it by reaching 150 in a crafting profession or by exploring the whole world map on one character.
How do you get the Spectral Bear mount in WoW Forever?
Reach the last reward on the Legacy Progress Track, shown at 55 Legacy Points in Blizzard’s screenshot. With 65 points in the game, that means finishing almost every challenge, including other classes’ level milestones and more crafting professions.
Can you reset Legacy Perks?
Yes. Blizzard’s tooltip says “Right click to unlearn”, and the beta notes describe a Legacy re-spec cost. Blizzard hasn’t published the live price.
