Rockstar’s UK staff vote on IWGB union recognition from Nov 12 to 26, across GTA 6’s Nov 19 launch, as the tribunal over 2025 dismissals reaches closing stage.

Rockstar Games staff in the UK will vote on recognising a trade union from November 12 to November 26, 2026, a window that runs straight through GTA 6’s November 19 launch. The IWGB Rockstar Game Workers Union announced the Rockstar union vote on October 27, saying employees will cast anonymous online votes on a recognition deal that union and management negotiated together.

If a majority backs it, the union says Rockstar would have the biggest recognised union in the UK games sector. It is a separate process from the employment tribunal over last year’s dismissals, which reaches its closing stage in the same weeks.

What the recognition deal would cover

According to the union’s announcement, the terms agreed between workers and management would give staff a say over pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working arrangements and generative AI policies. In a statement attached to the post, a member of the union’s committee said the vote was about “honesty and openness surrounding the decisions that affect” employees, and named the gender pay gap, overtime pay and job security after release as specific concerns.

Kotaku, which received the press release, reports that union representatives have been meeting Rockstar management since July to work out the deal. Workers had earlier asked Rockstar to recognise the union voluntarily before GTA 6 shipped; the question is now going to a ballot instead.

How the Rockstar union bid got here

  • October 2025: Rockstar dismissed a group of staff, 31 of them in the UK (34 in total including Canada, according to the union and Rock Paper Shotgun). The IWGB called it union busting. Rockstar has said the staff were dismissed for gross misconduct after sharing confidential company information, “not because of alleged trade union membership or activity.”
  • June 2026: a preliminary tribunal ruling let the union’s blacklisting claims go forward to the full hearing, according to the IWGB.
  • June 30, 2026: Rockstar workers filed for voluntary recognition. The union said it has organised at the studio since 2019, with members across Edinburgh, Dundee, Lincoln, Leeds and London. ZA/UM became the first UK games studio with a recognised union in October 2025.
  • September 10, 2026: the final tribunal hearing opened in Glasgow, as reported by Rock Paper Shotgun.
  • October 27, 2026: the union announced the November 12-26 vote.

What Rockstar and Take-Two have said

Rockstar has not commented on the vote itself, PC Gamer reports, and we found no statement from parent company Take-Two about it. The studio’s most recent public line on unionising came from its head of publishing, who told Bloomberg in a recent report on the making of the game: “We go where the team goes. So if they want a union, they will have a union,” as quoted by PC Gamer and Game Developer.

On the dismissals, Rockstar’s position is unchanged. When the final hearing began, a spokesperson said in a statement to IGN, quoted by Rock Paper Shotgun: “We reject the claims and will defend them vigorously before the tribunal.”

Does the vote affect GTA 6’s release?

Nothing in the union’s announcement or the reporting points to any change to the game. GTA 6 is still dated November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Edition details are in our GTA 6 pre-order and editions guide, and the cast Rockstar has revealed so far is in our GTA 6 characters list.

What’s next

Voting opens on November 12 and closes on November 26, a week after launch. The union has not said when it will announce the result. In the tribunal case, closing submissions are expected on November 17 and 18, and Rock Paper Shotgun notes a judge’s decision on whether Rockstar broke employment law will take longer. We will add both outcomes when they are public.
