To get a money tree in Retail Tycoon 2, sell enough of one item to hit its sales milestone. You can see every milestone in Settings (the gear icon) under the Stats tab, shown as sold / needed. When you reach one, a free money tree appears in your Decorations tab. Each tree you place adds 2% of an item’s profit to every sale. Each new milestone for the same item needs 2.5 times as many sales as the last one, so the fastest way to collect trees is to spread your sales across many items instead of farming one.
This page answers the money tree question in detail: how the milestones scale, which items to work on, what the bonus is worth in dollars, and whether there’s a limit. For the rest of the game (best things to sell, layouts, ratings), see our Retail Tycoon 2 guide with the best things to sell. Mechanics come from Secondhand Studios’ official Retail Tycoon 2 changelog and the two community wikis. Checked November 2, 2026 UTC against version 1.8.2.8, still the latest patch (April 8, 2026).

Retail Tycoon 2 money tree quick answer
- How to get one: sell one item until its counter in Settings, Stats reaches the target. The tree then shows up in your Decorations tab.
- What it does: each placed tree adds +2% of the item’s profit to every sale, for every item in your store. Ten trees means +20%.
- Milestones: they’re different for every item. The Retail Tycoon Wiki’s examples are 10,000 turkeys but only 600 laptops. Each next target for the same item is 2.5 times the previous one.
- Fastest strategy: take one or two trees from each item you sell, then move on to other items. A fourth tree from one item needs over 15 times the sales of the first.
- Limit: neither the changelog nor the wikis mention a cap. Trees only count while they’re placed in your store.
- Cost and size: $0 to place, 2×2 tiles, +15 decoration. They work anywhere on your plot, and you can change their color.

Money trees are free to place and work anywhere on your plot, but only once they're placed. AI-generated illustration
How to get a money tree in Retail Tycoon 2
Money trees arrived in update 1.2.3 (October 1, 2021). The official notes call them “end game items” that are “earned by hitting large sales milestones for each sellable item, visible in Settings > Stats”. Here’s what to do first:
- Open your stats. Click the gear icon in the top left (just left of your money), then the bar chart tab. Below your playtime and money earned/spent, you’ll see a list of every sellable item.
- Read the sold / needed numbers. The left number is how many you’ve sold, the right number is the next milestone. The Retail Tycoon Wiki’s example: 732/10000 for chips means 9,268 more chips to go.
- Find your closest milestones. Look for items where you’re already close, or where you sell a lot every minute. Those are your next trees.
- Keep those items stocked. Customers can’t buy what’s not on a display shelf. A manager set to a high Amount to Stock keeps the shelves full while you’re busy (see our Retail Tycoon 2 manager guide for the settings).
- Place the tree. When the milestone pops, open build mode, go to Decorations and place your new money tree. Trees in your inventory don’t give any bonus.
Vending machine sales should count as well: update 1.6.10.1 (August 26, 2022) fixed vending machines “not counting sales stats”.
Retail Tycoon 2 money tree milestones: how they scale
Every item has its own milestone chain. After each tree, the next target for that item is 2.5 times the previous one, per both wikis. The stats target is the total sold, so the extra sales you need between trees grow fast. Here’s how the wiki’s two examples play out:
| Money tree from one item | Laptop: stats target | Laptop: extra sales needed | Turkey: stats target | Turkey: extra sales needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 600 | 600 | 10,000 | 10,000 |
| 2nd (x2.5) | 1,500 | 900 | 25,000 | 15,000 |
| 3rd (x2.5) | 3,750 | 2,250 | 62,500 | 37,500 |
| 4th (x2.5) | About 9,375 | About 5,625 | 156,250 | 93,750 |
| 5th (x2.5) | About 23,440 | About 14,060 | 390,625 | 234,375 |
The laptop and turkey starting points are the wiki’s examples. Other items have their own first milestones, which you can only see in your Stats tab. The wikis don’t publish a full list, and the developer hasn’t posted one. The 4th and 5th laptop rows assume the game rounds the same way, so treat them as estimates.
Why the first milestones are so different
A laptop sells for a lot more than a turkey, and the milestones seem to make up for that. Using the community wiki’s profit table, the two examples land in the same range:
| Item | First milestone | Profit per unit (wiki) | Profit made by the first tree |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laptop (small electronics) | 600 | $300 ($400 buy / $700 sell) | About $180,000 |
| Turkey (cold food) | 10,000 | $15 ($15 buy / $30 sell) | About $150,000 |
That’s our reading of two data points, not something Secondhand Studios has confirmed. But it matches what players see: expensive goods have small milestone numbers, and cheap groceries have big ones. So no item is a secret shortcut. The quickest tree is simply the item your store sells the most of per minute, compared with how many sales it still needs.
How to get money trees fast: spread, don’t stack
Because of the 2.5x scaling, the wiki advises stopping after the second or third tree for an item and switching to a new one. The math shows why. Say several items each have a first milestone of 1,000 sales:
| Way to earn 4 money trees | Total sales needed | Compared with spreading |
|---|---|---|
| 4 trees from 1 item (1,000 + 2,500 + 6,250 + 15,625 targets) | 15,625 | About 3.9x more |
| 2 trees each from 2 items | 5,000 | 1.25x more |
| 1 tree each from 4 items | 4,000 | Fastest |
In practice that means:
- Sell a wide range. Every item type on your shelves has its own first milestone waiting. The RT2 Wiki’s tip is that “high customer traffic and offering a variety of stocked items” moves several milestones at once.
- Use your Stats tab as a to-do list. Check it each session and push the items closest to their next target.
- Swap items once they’re on their third tree. Replace a shelf of an item you’ve maxed out with something you’ve never sold. A new first milestone is often cheaper than your fourth tree.
- Get more customers. The official changelog says customer spawn rate depends on your store ratings, your parking spots and your largest sign. More shoppers means more sales of everything. Our main guide covers how to get more customers in Retail Tycoon 2.
- Don’t overstock to chase a tree. Unsold boxes don’t count. Only sales move the counter.

Trees can be recolored, and each placed one adds +2% of profit to every sale plus +15 decoration. AI-generated illustration
What does a money tree do in Retail Tycoon 2?
When they launched, each tree added 1% to revenue. Update 1.3 (November 1, 2021) changed that. In the developer’s words, money trees “now add 2% to profit instead of 1% to revenue (so low profit margin items aren’t OP)”. The Retail Tycoon 2 Wiki gives the formula:
Final earnings per sale = sale price + (profit x 0.02 x placed trees)
The bonus stacks additively and applies to every item you sell, not just the item that earned the tree. Here’s what it adds per sale, using the wiki’s profit figures:
| Item (profit per unit) | 1 tree (+2%) | 5 trees (+10%) | 10 trees (+20%) | 25 trees (+50%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cold food, e.g. turkey ($15) | +$0.30 | +$1.50 | +$3 | +$7.50 |
| Toys ($25) | +$0.50 | +$2.50 | +$5 | +$12.50 |
| Small electronics, e.g. laptop ($300) | +$6 | +$30 | +$60 | +$150 |
| Large furniture ($550) | +$11 | +$55 | +$110 | +$275 |
| Economy cars ($2,000) | +$40 | +$200 | +$400 | +$1,000 |
The wiki’s own example: a $15,000 item with $2,000 profit and 22 placed trees earns $15,880 per sale ($2,000 x 0.02 x 22 = $880 extra).
Two things follow from this. First, money trees boost profit, not cost, so they matter most on high-profit goods. Second, a tree earned from turkeys still adds 2% to your car profits. There’s no reason to sell an item you dislike just because it gave you a tree.
Is there a money tree limit in Retail Tycoon 2?
We found no limit in any source. The official changelog never mentions a cap, and neither wiki lists one. The RT2 Wiki’s example uses 22 trees, and its formula simply multiplies by the number placed. What does limit you in practice:
- Floor space. Each tree takes 2×2 tiles. They work anywhere on your plot, so a back room or the parking lot edge is fine.
- Placement. Only placed trees count. A tree sitting in your Decorations inventory adds nothing.
- The scaling. After a few trees per item, the milestones get very large. Your total depends on how many different items you sell.
Each placed tree also gives +15 decoration, which helps your decoration rating. Since update 1.8 (December 2024), walkability is rated too, so don’t let a cluster of trees block the path from your entrance to the shelves.
Money tree farm, glitches and scripts
Search suggestions for this game include “money tree farm”, “money glitch” and scripts. The only legitimate “farm” is a store built to sell a lot of different items quickly. We don’t cover scripts, autofarm tools or glitches. They break Roblox’s rules and can cost you your account, and Retail Tycoon 2 has no redeem codes for money trees or cash either.
How many players have a money tree?
Retail Tycoon 2 has a badge for it. “Rich Get Richer” (“Earn your first money tree by selling a lot of something”) had been awarded 796,796 times when we checked the Roblox badges API on November 2, 2026. For comparison, the “MBA” badge for finishing the tutorial had 10,865,871 awards. That’s about one money tree badge for every 14 tutorial badges, so most players never earn a single tree. The game itself has 340.4 million visits.
| Badge | Requirement | Times awarded (Nov 2, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| MBA | Do the tutorial | 10,865,871 |
| Eager Exporter | Sell 10,000 things | 1,985,860 |
| Rich Get Richer | Earn your first money tree | 796,796 |
| Commerce Commander | Sell 100,000 things | 265,102 |
| Retail Tycoon | Sell 1,000,000 things | 3,061 |
If you’re past 10,000 total sales and still don’t have a tree, your sales are probably spread too thin across items you rarely restock, or concentrated on one cheap item with a huge milestone. Check the Stats tab for the item that’s closest.

FAQ
How do you get money trees in Retail Tycoon 2?
Sell enough of a single item to reach its milestone, shown as sold / needed in Settings (gear icon), Stats tab. The tree then appears in your Decorations tab, free to place. Every sellable item has its own milestone.
What does a money tree do in Retail Tycoon 2?
Each placed money tree adds 2% of the item’s profit to every sale in your store, for every item. Ten trees add 20%. It has worked this way since update 1.3 in November 2021. Before that, trees added 1% to revenue.
How much more do you need to sell for the next money tree?
The next milestone for the same item is 2.5 times the previous one. If your first laptop tree came at 600 sales, the second comes at 1,500 and the third at 3,750. Switching to a new item is usually faster after two or three trees.
Do money trees work if they’re in storage or my inventory?
No. The Retail Tycoon 2 Wiki says trees you haven’t placed give no bonus. Placement doesn’t matter otherwise: any spot on your plot counts.
