Sony’s PS5 system update 26.07-14.22.00 is out now with security fixes. Official patch notes, the 1.27 GB file size, and how to install it on console or USB.

Sony has released PS5 system software version 26.07-14.22.00, available to download now (Monday, November 2, 2026). It is a small security patch: Sony’s official notes contain a single line, and it arrives just 12 days after the previous update. Here is what Sony says it does, how big it is, and how to install it on your console or from a USB drive.

PS5 update 26.07-14.22.00 patch notes

Sony’s PS5 system software features page lists exactly one change for 26.07-14.22.00:

“We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.”

That is the whole changelog: the notes list no new features, settings changes or controller updates. It replaces 26.07-14.20.00, which Sony rolled out on October 21 with a note that it had “improved the messages and usability on some screens.”

Version Released What Sony’s notes say
26.07-14.22.00 Nov 2, 2026 Security fixes
26.07-14.20.00 Oct 21, 2026 Improved messages and usability on some screens
26.06-14.10.00 Early October 2026 Security fixes; performance and stability improvements

Release dates are based on when the updates went live, as reported by Push Square. That makes three PS5 system updates in about a month, and two of them are security-only.

Why Sony keeps patching PS5 security

Sony hasn’t said anything beyond the one-line patch note. Outlets link the run of updates to a rise in PS5 jailbreaking. Push Square says these security fixes are “pretty serious ones for Sony” because they aim to stop hackers and modders from opening up the console, and it reports that jailbreak activity has grown over the last month or two. IGN’s headline on the same update calls it part of a “jailbreak whac-a-mole” that continues ahead of GTA 6’s November 19 release.

For everyone else, this is a routine patch, and Push Square’s advice is to install it. Sony’s update page also warns that a console that “has been altered or modified in any way” might not be able to install official update data, and that this can void the system warranty.

How to update your PS5 to 26.07-14.22.00

If automatic updates are turned on, your PS5 downloads and installs the patch by itself. To check or update by hand, follow Sony’s official steps:

  1. Go to Settings > System.
  2. Select System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
  3. If Update Available appears, select Update System Software.

On the same screen you can switch on Download Update Files Automatically and Install Update Files Automatically so future patches install themselves. Sony notes that some games and apps may not run until the console is on the latest system software, which is worth sorting out before a big launch like GTA 6.

If the download gets stuck

Press the PS button to open the control center, go to Downloads/Uploads, highlight the system software update, then select View Error Info and Try Again.

Update PS5 from USB: file size and steps

If the console update keeps failing, Sony offers the update file for download on its support page. According to Sony’s download server, the current file (PS5UPDATE.PUP) is about 1.27 GB (1,266,091,008 bytes). Sony’s instructions still say you need roughly 1.1 GB free, so use a USB drive with a few gigabytes of space to be safe.

  1. Turn off your PS5.
  2. On a PC or Mac, format a USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT, create a folder called PS5, and inside it a folder called UPDATE.
  3. Download the update file from PlayStation’s support page and save it in the UPDATE folder as PS5UPDATE.PUP. Use uppercase letters for the folder and file names.
  4. Plug the drive into the PS5 and start it in Safe Mode: hold the power button and let go after the second beep.
  5. Select Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device > OK.

Don’t turn the console off while the update installs. Only use the file from Sony’s site. Sony’s separate “reinstallation” file does a full factory reset and deletes everything on the console, so make sure you download the update file and not that one.

What’s next

Expect more short security patches like this one. With GTA 6 arriving on November 19 (release times, pre-load and file size), it’s worth updating now so a firmware download doesn’t hold you up on launch night. If you’re shopping for a console, see our PS5 Black Friday 2026 tracker and the PS5 Prism Collection designs. We’ll update this page if Sony adds anything to the patch notes.
