The legendary ships in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced are four endgame naval battles, one in each corner of the Caribbean map: El Impoluto (Dry Tortuga), HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign (Eleuthera), La Dama Negra (Serranilla) and HMS Prince (Navassa). That’s five ships, because the Fearless and the Royal Sovereign fight you together. Each win pays 12,000 Reales plus a Jackdaw figurehead, hull, wheel and sails set and a ship model, and beating them all unlocks the Devil of the Caribbean achievement.
Ubisoft says the remake “rebuilt them to be stronger, tougher, and meaner” than in the 2013 original, so old tactics only partly carry over. Below: where each ship sails, what it does, the order we suggest, and what has changed since the original.
- Quick answer: 4 encounters, 5 ships, all optional endgame bosses. Capture the region’s fort to reveal each ship’s marker, per PC Gamer’s guide.
- Rewards: 12,000 Reales, four Jackdaw cosmetics (figurehead, hull, wheel, sails) and a ship model per encounter. The Ram Dash reward from the original is gone: in Resynced you get it from the Padre instead.
- Respawns: legendary ships come back “after a while,” according to Ubisoft, so you can fight them again.
- Our suggested order (easiest first): La Dama Negra, HMS Prince, El Impoluto, then HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign.
- Get ready first: recruit all three new officers (Lucy Baldwin, the Padre, Tobias “Deadman” Smith) and buy the top Jackdaw upgrades.

Black Flag Resynced legendary ship locations
The coordinates below are the in-game map coordinates published by the guides we checked. They mark a patrol area, not a fixed spot. Guides disagree on El Impoluto: PC Gamer and GamesRadar give 161, 804, while Game Rant, Vandal and TheClick give about 115-117, 841-842. Both are in the far north-west of Dry Tortuga, so sail into that corner and look for the skull marker.
| Legendary ship | Region (fort) | Map corner | Coordinates | Main threat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| El Impoluto | Dry Tortuga | North-west | 161, 804 or 115-117, 841-842 | Ramming and long flaming broadsides |
| HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign | Eleuthera | North-east | 811, 858 | Two ships flanking you from both sides |
| La Dama Negra | Serranilla | South-west | 240-241, 72-73 | Armoured sides and an incendiary mortar |
| HMS Prince | Navassa | South-east | 854, 55 | Hides in fog and shells you with mortars |
These are the same four corners as in the 2013 game, and the Assassin’s Creed wiki’s pages for the original put the ships in the same waters: El Impoluto in the Gulf of Mexico, the twins on the Atlantic edge of the Bahamas, La Dama Negra south of the Serranilla fort and HMS Prince south of Saint-Domingue. According to Vandal, when you get within firing range a cutscene plays and the fight moves to a closed-off arena. You can only leave by sinking the ship or being sunk, and legendary ships can’t be boarded or added to Kenway’s Fleet.
Black Flag Resynced legendary ships rewards
Ubisoft’s naval deep dive says each legendary ship gives “unique cosmetic skins for The Jackdaw, for the figurehead, hull, wheel, and sails,” and that each set belongs to one encounter only. PC Gamer, Game Rant and GamesRadar list the full drop the same way:
| Encounter | Reales | Jackdaw cosmetics | Ship model |
|---|---|---|---|
| El Impoluto | 12,000 | El Impoluto figurehead, hull, wheel, sails | El Impoluto |
| HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign | 12,000 | HMS Fearless figurehead, hull, wheel, sails | Brothers in Arms |
| La Dama Negra | 12,000 | La Dama Negra figurehead, hull, wheel, sails | La Dama Negra |
| HMS Prince | 12,000 | HMS Prince figurehead, hull, wheel, sails | HMS Prince |
Beat all of them for Devil Of The Caribbean (“Defeat all legendary ships” in Ubisoft’s achievement list). TheClick’s guide notes that the Fearless and Royal Sovereign fight counts as two ships, so if the achievement doesn’t pop, check that you sank both ships in that fight. Equipping a cosmetic in every Jackdaw vanity slot is a separate achievement, Dressing Overall.
Recommended order: easiest to hardest (our ranking)
This order is our own call, based on how the guides we checked rank the fights. Their authors played them; we haven’t. They mostly agree on the easiest ship and split on the hardest:
- La Dama Negra. Game Rant calls it “by far the easiest,” and GamesRadar puts it first too. It’s slow, and once you know to hit the bow and stern, it goes down.
- HMS Prince. PC Gamer calls it “arguably the easiest,” but its fog phases drag on, and Game Rant rates it among the toughest. It’s a test of patience rather than of raw damage.
- El Impoluto. PC Gamer calls it the second-hardest and Vandal says its speed makes it “arguably the most difficult.” It’s in the starting region, but don’t go there early.
- HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign. GamesRadar ranks this fight hardest, and PC Gamer’s author had the most trouble with it. Game Rant finds it easier if you follow two rules (below). Do it last, with the most upgrades.
Before you fight: Jackdaw upgrades and officers
There’s no fixed level requirement listed for any legendary ship in Resynced. GamesRadar says you can trigger the fights “basically at any time,” but every guide we read recommends a fully or nearly fully upgraded Jackdaw. PC Gamer suggests at least the best armour, broadsides, swivel guns and ram, and points to the Ultimate Ship Plans (TheClick counts 12, some behind treasure maps). Ubisoft says the Harbormaster in your Hideout has three levels that “increase the number and tier of upgrades you can purchase,” so upgrade it first.

The three new officers matter most. Ubisoft says Adéwalé tells Edward about Lucy and the Padre once you reach Great Inagua. Deadman is recruited through the new endgame chapter, A World Without Gold:
| Officer | Perk | Where to find them |
|---|---|---|
| Lucy Baldwin | Perfect Brace: a well-timed brace almost cancels incoming damage | Imprisoned on a Man O’ War at Salt Key Bank (Ubisoft); quest “A Proper Shipwright” after Sequence 4 (PC Gamer) |
| The Padre | Ram Dash: a high-speed ram with its own camera, buffed from the original | Punta del Caracol (Ubisoft); quest “A Second Chance” after Sequence 4 (PC Gamer) |
| Tobias “Deadman” Smith | An extra broadside volley, plus Deadman’s Cohort, a mortar mode that drops many carcass bombs you aim by hand | “A World Without Gold” questline; PC Gamer names his quest “No Box Dark Enough” after Sequence 11 |
One more setting to check: update 1.0.8 added Nightmare difficulty, which you can set separately for naval combat, and it increases all ship damage. If a fight is too hard, the naval difficulty is the setting to lower. TheClick says difficulty doesn’t affect the achievement. The full 1.0.8 changes are in our Black Flag Resynced update 1.0.8 breakdown.
How to beat La Dama Negra
La Dama Negra’s hull has metal plates on both sides. PC Gamer says the plates cut side damage and block swivel-gun critical hits, so aim for the bow and stern. Game Rant’s plan is to sit behind it and hit the stern with your bow chasers.
- Use chain shot or shrapnel barrels to slow it, then get around to the front or back.
- Watch for glowing orange patches on the water, where its incendiary mortar will land, and brace just before the hit.
- In phase two it drops explosive barrels behind it. Shoot them with your swivels as they fall to damage the ship.
- Stay at close to medium range: Game Rant notes it fires its mortar less when you’re near.
How to beat HMS Prince
The “ghost ship” opens like a normal Man O’ War fight, with broadsides, mines and mortars. After it loses a chunk of health, it runs into the fog and shells you with mortars. PC Gamer says this happens twice (phases two and three).
- Mark it with your spyglass at the start. Game Rant says the marker stays on your HUD within range even when the fog hides it.
- During the fog phases, don’t chase its old position. PC Gamer suggests sailing to cut it off. Game Rant stayed still with sails raised and only moved to dodge, and TheClick sails in wide circles. Either way, brace for the mortars you can’t avoid.
- When it comes back it fires flaming shot. Hit it with Ram Dash, mortars and broadsides while it’s close.

How to beat El Impoluto
El Impoluto opens by ramming you and keeps doing it, firing heavy shot from its bow on the way in. Its cannons have long range, so you can’t just sail away.
- Brace for the first ram instead of ramming back. PC Gamer and GamesRadar both say you lose that trade.
- When it lines up a charge, drop fire barrels behind you and land a mortar in its path, then slide down its side for a broadside. Vandal reports chaining five or six of your own barrels against it this way.
- Chain shot to the sails stops the rams for a short time, which is your safest damage window.
- From phase two it fires long sweeps of flaming cannonballs. GamesRadar suggests staying far away and using mortars during these. Deadman’s hand-aimed mortar helps a lot here, according to Game Rant.
How to beat HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign
Two Men O’ War try to pass you on both sides and fire both broadsides at once. They have less health than the solo ships. When one sinks, the other sets itself on fire and keeps ramming you.
- Rule one: never sail between them. Pass one ship side-on, from outside the pair.
- Rule two: damage both evenly. Game Rant and GamesRadar both advise getting both low, so the burning survivor is only a few shots from sinking.
- Use chain shot to slow one ship and leave it open to mortars and rams.
- In phase two they drop barrels or mines behind them. Avoid them, or shoot them with your swivels as the ships turn past.
- GamesRadar suggests playing with the sound up, because you can’t keep both ships on screen.
HMS Ipswich: the extra story ship
Game Rant counts a sixth legendary ship that’s new to Resynced: HMS Ipswich, the boss at the end of the A World Without Gold chapter. VGC calls it the questline’s “true final boss.” It’s a story fight, not a corner-of-the-map encounter. According to Game Rant it doesn’t respawn and only gives an HMS Ipswich ship model. VGC’s tip: your weapons barely hurt it, so wait for it to drop fire barrels and shoot them with your swivels. Each detonation takes about a third of its health. Once it’s at 1 HP, ram it to start the fight with Robert Maynard. PC Gamer, GamesRadar, Vandal and TheClick don’t list Ipswich with the legendary ships, and we couldn’t confirm whether it counts toward Devil of the Caribbean.
What changed from the 2013 original
| Black Flag (2013) | Black Flag Resynced (2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Encounters | 4 (5 ships) | 4 (5 ships), plus story boss HMS Ipswich per Game Rant |
| Reward for all four | Ram ability for the Jackdaw | Per-ship cosmetics, Reales and ship models; Ram Dash now from the Padre |
| Rematches | No (Ubisoft lists replays as new) | Yes, ships respawn (Ubisoft) |
| Strength | Original stats | “Stronger, tougher, and meaner” (Ubisoft); more health, more damage and clearer phases (PC Gamer) |
Respawns can be slow. Game Rant sometimes had to sail to the coordinates, or fast travel away and come back, before a ship reappeared.

FAQ
How many legendary ships are in Black Flag Resynced?
Four encounters with five ships: El Impoluto, HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign (together), La Dama Negra and HMS Prince. Game Rant also counts the new story boss HMS Ipswich, which makes six.
Which legendary ship is the easiest?
La Dama Negra in our ranking, and in Game Rant’s and GamesRadar’s. PC Gamer picks HMS Prince instead. Attack La Dama Negra from the bow and stern, not the armoured sides.
Do you still get the ram for beating all legendary ships?
No. In Resynced, Ram Dash comes from recruiting the Padre. The legendary ships give Reales, Jackdaw cosmetics and ship models instead.
Do legendary ships respawn in Black Flag Resynced?
Yes, the four free-roam ones do. Ubisoft says “they respawn after a while.” Game Rant says HMS Ipswich doesn’t.
Do you need New Game+ to fight them?
No. They’re available in your first playthrough and after the story. New Game+ (added in update 1.0.8) makes regular sea encounters harder, with max-rank ships patrolling.
