Every Modern Warfare 4 killstreak at launch: 17 streaks from the 4-kill UAV to the 12-kill Gunship, unlock levels, Hardline costs and suggested setups.

Modern Warfare 4 launches with 17 MW4 killstreaks, priced in five tiers: 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 kills. You equip up to three per loadout, the Hardline perk cuts every cost by one, and objective play now feeds the streak meter alongside kills. Below is the full list with Activision’s official kill costs, unlock levels and descriptions, plus suggested combinations built from what each streak is officially said to do.

All numbers come from Activision’s “Ready for Launch: Weapons Detail” post (October 19) and the MW4 launch patch notes, checked October 23, 2026, 04:50 UTC. One official number conflicts (the UAV), and we flag it below.

Quick answer

  • 17 killstreaks at launch, all Multiplayer: 4 cost 4 kills, 4 cost 6, 3 cost 8, 4 cost 10 and 2 cost 12.
  • Three slots per loadout. Streaks are attached to each Custom Loadout (up to 12), so switching class switches your streaks.
  • Available at Level 4 (when Create-a-Class unlocks): UAV, Artillery Beacon and Attack Helicopter. The last one, Air Lockdown, unlocks at Level 55.
  • Hardline (Perk 2, Level 4) reduces every cost by 1, so 4/6/8/10/12 becomes 3/5/7/9/11.
  • Smartstreaks: capturing or holding objectives also fills the meter; kills remain the main driver.
  • The Tactical Nuke is not one of the 17. It is not equipped; beta reports put it at 30 kills.

All 17 MW4 killstreaks: kill costs and unlock levels

Costs are the official kill requirements without Hardline. “Unlock” is the Player Level at which the streak becomes available in Create-a-Class.

Killstreak Kills With Hardline Unlock level What it does (official description, paraphrased)
UAV 4* 3* 4 Recon ship that shows enemies on the minimap
Bomb Glider 4 3 6 Hand-held glider you pilot into a target with an explosive payload
Care Package 4 3 9 Drops a random killstreak at your position
Impact Warhead 4 3 12 Explosive payload that drills down through several floors
Artillery Beacon 6 5 4 Thrown beacon that heat-seeking missiles home in on
Crossfire 6 5 20 Two airstrikes that hit from opposite directions
Combat Drone 6 5 26 Remote-controlled anti-personnel drone
Counter UAV 6 5 31 Scrambles every enemy minimap
Wheelson 8 7 16 AI ground vehicle that hunts nearby enemies or guards you
Missile Salvo 8 7 24 Aerial platform that fires lock-on missiles
Railgun Sentry 8 7 38 Electromagnetic cannon firing tungsten flechettes; deploys as an autonomous sentry
Attack Helicopter 10 9 4 Overwatch helicopter that gives air support and tracks targets
Deathstalker 10 9 35 Remote-controlled helicopter with twin turrets that can overheat
Advanced UAV 10 9 40 Orbital UAV that shows the enemy’s direction on the minimap in real time; immune to lock-on
Argonaut 10 9 45 Heavy assault armor with a pump-action cluster grenade launcher and a burst-fire sidearm
Gunship 12 11 51 Heavy gunship with 105mm, 40mm and 25mm cannons
Air Lockdown 12 11 55 A series of bombing runs plus anti-air coverage while it is active

*UAV cost: the Ready for Launch post lists 4 kills, but the launch patch notes say “UAVs are 5 kills (or 4 kills with the Hardline perk equipped)”. Both are Activision documents; check the number in your Create-a-Class menu.

Why some lists show 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 kills

Those were the beta’s starting costs. Activision’s open beta guide said streaks unlocked at 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 eliminations. For Weekend Two, the beta patch notes (August 28) raised every killstreak cost by one kill to cut down on “Killstreak spam”. The launch patch notes confirm that increase stays at launch. If a guide was written during beta Weekend One, or its author was running Hardline, it shows the lower numbers.

How killstreaks work in MW4

Streaks are set per loadout

For the first time in a Modern Warfare game, killstreaks are part of each Custom Loadout rather than a single account-wide set, according to the launch patch notes. Activision’s beta guide says you can build up to 12 Custom Loadouts, give each one up to three killstreaks, or apply one streak set to all of them. In practice that means an objective class and a slayer class can carry different streaks, and switching class mid-match swaps them too.

Smartstreaks: objectives count

Activision’s multiplayer systems overview describes Smartstreaks: “Kills remain the primary driver, while playing the objective also counts toward your progress.” The launch patch notes give capturing a point in Domination as an example. Activision hasn’t published how many points each objective action is worth, so treat objective play as a supplement to kills, not a replacement.

Perks that change your streaks

Perk Slot / unlock Effect on killstreaks (official text)
Hardline Perk 2, Level 4 “Reduce Killstreak cost by 1.”
Kill Chain Perk 1, Level 48 “Kills from Killstreaks and award half streak points.” (As printed: the wording suggests streak kills give half credit toward your next streak.)
Combat Grid Perk 3, Level 4 Spot enemy Killstreaks, equipment and vehicles through walls
Ghost Perk 1, Level 24 Undetectable by UAVs, Portable Radars, Heartbeat Sensors and enemy callouts
Cold-Blooded Perk 3, Level 36 Undetectable by AI targeting systems, thermal optics and Recon Drones, among others
Birdseye Perk 2, Level 40 Zoomed-out minimap; UAV and radar pings show which way enemies face

Hardline and Birdseye are both Perk 2 options, and MW4 uses a Pick 3 system with one perk from each of the three categories, so you can’t run both. Hardline also competes with Blood Rush, which is now the only way to get Tactical Sprint.

Best MW4 killstreak picks (suggestions, not tested meta)

MW4 has been out for hours, so there is no reliable data yet on which streaks perform best. These combinations are suggestions based only on Activision’s descriptions, costs and unlock levels. Expect the community meta to settle over the first weeks, and expect balance patches.

Setup Streaks (kills) With Hardline Why it fits
Starter (Level 4) UAV (4), Artillery Beacon (6), Attack Helicopter (10) 3 / 5 / 9 The only three streaks open when Create-a-Class unlocks: one of each type (intel, area damage, air support)
Team intel UAV (4), Counter UAV (6), Advanced UAV (10) 3 / 5 / 9 Pure information and denial; pairs well with Smartstreaks on objective modes. Available from Level 40
Objective anchor Care Package (4), Wheelson (8), Argonaut (10) 3 / 7 / 9 Wheelson can guard the area around you and the Argonaut’s heavy armor and grenade launcher suit holding a point. Level 45+
Hands-on damage Bomb Glider (4), Combat Drone (6), Deathstalker (10) 3 / 5 / 9 All three are piloted, so your aim decides the result. Level 35+
Long streak UAV (4), Crossfire (6), Gunship (12) 3 / 5 / 11 A cheap intel streak and a mid-tier airstrike keep you earning on the way to the Gunship. Level 51+

Trade-offs to keep in mind:

  • Cheap vs big. A 4-kill streak arrives almost every decent life; a 12-kill streak usually needs Hardline, objective points or a very long life. The gap between tiers is fixed at two kills.
  • UAV changes at launch. Infinity Ward raised UAV health from 100 to 150 for launch after beta feedback that UAVs were too easy to shoot down, which makes the cheapest intel streak harder to remove.
  • Wheelson changes at launch. The launch notes say its pathing and targeting were reworked to be “more aggressive”.
  • Care Package is random. It drops “a random Killstreak”, so it can be better or worse than what you would have picked.
  • Argonaut fix. A launch fix addressed a bug where the killstreak counter could reset after using the Argonaut.

How to counter enemy killstreaks

Several launch items are designed to deal with streaks, according to the official descriptions:

  • Launchers (PILA, RPG-8, JOKR): Activision says launchers specialize in destroying vehicles, equipment and killstreaks.
  • SAM Airburst Turret (Field Upgrade, Level 8): a portable missile turret that targets aerial threats.
  • Smoke Grenade (Level 4): blocks vision and automated targeting systems.
  • Shock Stick (Level 29) and DDOS (Level 4): the Shock Stick makes vehicles go haywire; DDOS temporarily jams nearby enemy electronics.
  • Signal 50 Inferno Apex Attachment: incendiary .50 rounds with a significant increase to vehicle and killstreak damage. The Kastov 762 ARC Apex uses a jammer to disrupt enemy killstreaks and equipment.
  • Ghost and Cold-Blooded keep you off UAVs and AI targeting.

For the guns and Apex Attachments themselves, see our MW4 weapons and Operators at launch rundown.

Is there a Nuke in MW4?

Yes, but it isn’t one of the 17 killstreaks you pick. The launch patch notes mention it directly (“Improved the Nuke sequence audio mix”). Insider Gaming and esports.gg report that a player earned a Tactical Nuke in the beta with a 30-kill streak, which ends the match. Activision hasn’t published an official requirement, so treat 30 kills as reported, not confirmed for the launch build.

Unlocking every killstreak: the leveling path

Killstreaks unlock through the main Player Level (1-55). Three are ready at Level 4, and new ones arrive steadily until Level 55, where Air Lockdown completes the set. If you choose Classic Prestige, level unlocks reset, so you’d earn these again. Our MW4 Prestige guide explains Classic vs Regular Prestige and the XP trade-off. Campaign challenges such as the one-life YOLO difficulty are separate from Multiplayer levels; our MW4 YOLO mode guide covers those.

Level Killstreak unlocked
4 UAV, Artillery Beacon, Attack Helicopter
6 / 9 / 12 Bomb Glider / Care Package / Impact Warhead
16 / 20 / 24 / 26 Wheelson / Crossfire / Missile Salvo / Combat Drone
31 / 35 / 38 / 40 Counter UAV / Deathstalker / Railgun Sentry / Advanced UAV
45 / 51 / 55 Argonaut / Gunship / Air Lockdown

Killstreaks are a Multiplayer system. Activision notes that DMZ has a different set of equipment, so check our MW4 DMZ beginner guide for that mode. If you can’t get into a match yet, our MW4 server status and error fixes page tracks launch issues, and the MW4 release time by region list shows when it unlocked where you are.

FAQ

How many killstreaks are in MW4?

17 at launch, from the 4-kill UAV, Bomb Glider, Care Package and Impact Warhead up to the 12-kill Gunship and Air Lockdown. The Tactical Nuke is separate and isn’t equipped.

How many killstreaks can you equip in MW4?

Up to three per Custom Loadout, according to Activision’s beta guides. Each of your up to 12 loadouts can carry a different set.

How much does Hardline reduce killstreak costs?

By one kill for every streak. Hardline is a Perk 2 option available from Level 4.

Do objectives count toward killstreaks in MW4?

Yes. The Smartstreaks system counts objective play, such as capturing a point in Domination, toward your meter, though Activision says kills remain the primary driver.
