God of War Laufey releases on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PS5. Santa Monica Studio’s next mainline God of War puts Kratos’s late wife Faye in the lead, and pre-orders are open now on the PlayStation Store at $69.99 for the Standard Edition and $79.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. A separate $149.99 Collector Box went up for pre-order on October 13, but it does not include the game.

God of War Laufey release date and platforms
Sony revealed the game on June 2, 2026, as the closing announcement of that day’s State of Play. The September 28 pre-order post confirmed the February 16, 2027 launch, and pre-orders opened on September 29 at 10:00am local time.

There are two editions and a $10 upgrade. The Standard Edition comes in digital and physical versions. The Digital Deluxe Edition is digital only.

Pre-order bonus
Pre-ordering any edition gets you three items:
- Last Wish Armor Set for Faye
- Golden Leaves appearance for Phranque (cosmetic)
- In-game resource pack
Physical buyers get it as a download code (valid until February 16, 2037). Armor and Dark Alchemy gear unlock through story progression, not at the start.
God of War Laufey Collector Box
Sony announced the Collector Box on October 13, in an “Update” note added to the top of the original pre-order post. The box contains:
- Light-up Faye statue: 8 inches tall, showing Faye, Phranque and Rue fighting Begtse’s soldiers. Phranque lights up when the statue is plugged into USB power.
- 51-card oracle deck: every card has a custom illustration by artist Megan Lara.
- Physical mini artbook: concept art chosen by Santa Monica Studio’s art team.
It costs $149.99 / €149.99 / £129.99 and is sold only through PlayStation Direct in “highly limited quantities”. It ships on February 16, 2027. Pre-orders opened on October 13 in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. You have to buy the game separately.

Story and cast: what Sony has confirmed
Faye wakes up after her own death in the Everywhen, which Sony calls “the afterlife of the gods”. Gods from several mythologies compete for power there, and the reveal gave a first look at two of them, Sekhmet and Begtse. According to Sony, her story starts just as Kratos and Atreus set out to scatter her ashes. In other words, it begins at the same point as the Norse saga that ended with God of War Ragnarök. Sony says Laufey works as a standalone game, but recommends playing God of War (2018) and Ragnarök first.
- Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye, returning to the role from Ragnarök.
- Jack Quaid plays Phranque, a cosmic cube.
- Perlina Lau plays Rue, the enchanted ribbons who guard Faye’s new sword.
- Christopher Judge (credited as Chris Judge, the voice of Kratos) joined the cast panel at Comic-Con in July. Sony hasn’t said how big Kratos’s role is.
Bear McCreary is writing the score. Faye fights with a sword, a new Serpent Bow and soul magic that can tear an enemy’s soul from its body.

Not announced yet
Sony has not yet announced the unlock time, pre-load date, file size or game length. It also hasn’t announced a physical Deluxe Edition, a collector’s edition that includes the game, or a PC version. We’ll add these with an “Updated” note once Sony confirms them.
