What is Knightica?

Knightica is a turn-based roguelike autobattler made by Mad Mango Games and published by Goblinz Publishing. You pick a Commander, recruit troops from a shop between battles, then place and rotate them on a grid before each fight. Once you hit Fight, the battle plays out on its own. Each run through its three demon-filled worlds offers different units, items and paths, according to the Steam page.

The game launched on August 21, 2025 with 49 troops, 9 Commanders (such as the Warlock, who spends his own health on curses), an Endless mode and an Arena mode, per its version 1.0 notes. Since then, a Codex (bestiary) arrived in October 2025, and the December 2025 Trinket Trials update rebuilt trinkets into 80 picks unlocked through XP, plus 9 new boss souls. The latest patch, v1.2.1 in February 2026, added a setting that shows real health, damage and attack speed.

Is Knightica good?

Steam players rate it Mostly Positive: 74% of 1,141 user reviews are positive (checked November 6, 00:05 UTC). The studio said launch reviews found it too hard, and it eased Normal mode and the first three Endless maps in patch v1.0.1 on August 27, 2025, according to its Steam news posts.

Who Knightica is for

It’s worth your time if you like short strategy runs and hunting for unit combos. The fights are hands-off, so the thinking happens in the shop and on the grid: which troops to buy, where to place them, and whether to risk an elite demon. Skip it if you want direct control in battle or a long story. Steam lists full controller support and 12 languages.

Knightica Faraway Tales DLC launches the same day

Knightica’s first DLC, Faraway Tales, is dated November 12, 2026 on Steam, the same day the Epic giveaway starts. The developer’s announcement lists:

  • Three new Commanders: the Corsair (completes bounties for big bonuses), the Crystalist (uses immovable Rocks as obstacles and allies) and the Emperor (a Traits system the studio says expresses its “love for Teamfight Tactics”).
  • 3 Commander-exclusive troops and 5 new troops for every Commander (2 Rare, 1 Epic, 2 Legendary).
  • 3 new encounters.

Steam showed no DLC price yet at our check. Epic’s promotion data covers only the base game, and we couldn’t confirm whether Faraway Tales will also be sold on the Epic store.

Can you play Knightica before November 12?

Yes. Knightica: Prologue, the free version of the game, has been on Steam since July 31, 2025, so you can try it now. More free picks on Valve’s store are in our free Steam games this week list.

The full game is $14.99 on Steam (not on sale at our check). Goblinz Studio’s official page lists it on Steam, GOG, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox, but the Epic giveaway is the PC version only. Steam’s minimum specs are modest: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3, 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage.

How to claim Knightica free on Epic

  1. After November 12 at 16:00 UTC, open the Epic free games page in a browser or the Epic Games Launcher and sign in.
  2. Select Knightica, click Get, then Place Order. The total shows $0.00.
  3. Claim before November 19 at 16:00 UTC. It stays in your library after that, and you can install it whenever you like.
