How to beat hard Colony Flow levels: the five-slot rule, hidden ? boxes, boosters, ads and prices, plus which videos match levels 214, 224, 547 and 740.

Colony Flow levels are won or lost in five slots. Every ant box you tap sits in one of them until its ants have nothing left to carry, so a hard level usually fails a few taps early, when a box goes into a slot before its color can be reached. This guide covers how ABI Games’ ant puzzle works, the hidden boxes and boosters that make the late levels tricky, what the ads and purchases cost, and where to find a real video walkthrough for levels 214, 224, 547 and 740, the level numbers players search for most. Store and chart details were checked at 19:30 UTC on October 23, 2026.

Quick answer

  • Only tap boxes whose color the ants can reach right now. ABI’s own store text warns that a box with “nothing left to carry” leaves its slot clogged, and two fan guides give the same rule.
  • Keep one slot free. Fill all five with blocked colors and the level is over. Save the last slot for a box that will start emptying at once.
  • Work from the outside of the picture in. The ants can only carry blocks with a clear path, so the outer colors come first and buried ones later.
  • Gray “?” boxes are a gamble. You only see their color once they are in a slot, so tap them while you still have room to absorb a bad reveal.
  • Stuck on 214 or 224? Both were changed in recent updates. Match the picture before you copy a video (see the table below).
  • Ads and purchases: both stores say the game contains ads. Apple lists a $7.99 “No ADS” item and purchases up to $39.99.

The game is climbing fast: it was #15 on Apple’s US free chart and #20 on top grossing a day earlier, and it’s #9 and #21 today. If you like the sorting side of it, our ranking of the best color sort games on iPhone and Android covers the rest of the genre.

How Colony Flow works

The rules come from the official App Store listing, which uses the same text as the Google Play page. Each level shows a pixel picture made of colored blocks, with a stack of ant boxes below it and “just five open slots”. Tap a box and it moves into a slot, and its ants march out to carry every matching block they can reach back to the nest. When a box is empty, its slot frees up again.

ABI spells out the trap itself: “Open a color that has nothing left to carry and that slot stays clogged. Fill all five and your colony grinds to a halt.” The number on each box is how many ants it holds, according to the fan guide Colony Flow Guide (colonyflowlevels.com). That’s why a big box can sit in a slot for a long time: it only leaves once all of its ants have finished.

The listing also promises “no timers, no lives, no pressure”. Players describe something different. App Store reviewers mention an energy system, infinite-lives timers, and watching ads for 15 minutes of unlimited lives, and a recent walkthrough video shows a heart counter with a refill timer on the home screen. Expect a lives system, whatever the store text says.

Colony Flow obstacles: hidden boxes, locks and linked boxes

ABI doesn’t publish a list of obstacles. Here’s what its store screenshots, walkthrough videos and two fan guides show:

Obstacle What it looks like What it changes
“?” boxes Gray boxes with a question mark in the stack The color shows only once the box is in a slot, so a bad reveal can block a slot (fan guide colonyflow.games; also a common App Store complaint)
Locked boxes Boxes you can’t tap yet According to colonyflow.games, a locked box can’t be picked while another box sits directly above it in the stack
Key and lock boxes A lock box that needs a key One reviewer on level 342 describes having to clear blocks in front of a key to open a lock box with more boxes inside
Linked boxes Boxes joined by a bar (store art, levels 53 and 140) The store doesn’t explain them. Watch the in-game tutorial the first time they appear
Two nest holes A second hole in later boards Ants use the hole closest to their target, per colonyflow.games

The “?” boxes are the part players argue about. One App Store reviewer calls the game “a slot machine” because you sometimes need one specific color and can’t tell which hidden box holds it. Another player, at level 622, says every level they’ve played was solvable without power-ups, “even if it takes a few tries”.

How to beat Colony Flow hard levels

We can’t play the levels ourselves. These tips are the points that agree across ABI’s store text, the two fan guides (colonyflowlevels.com and colonyflow.games, neither affiliated with ABI), and players in App Store reviews:

  1. Read the picture before the first tap. ABI’s advice is to “read the picture, count what’s left, and choose your boxes in the right order”. Look for the outermost color: per colonyflowlevels.com, that’s the only one the ants can reach at the start.
  2. Never start a color you can’t finish. All three sources give this rule. A box whose blocks are buried, or already gone, just sits in a slot. colonyflow.games says to trust the white ring, which marks boxes whose color is reachable right now.
  3. Treat the last slot as an emergency slot. Fill all five and you lose. colonyflow.games puts it directly: don’t fill the last empty slot unless the box you load starts emptying at once.
  4. Peel the picture in rings. colonyflowlevels.com suggests clearing the outer ring, then the next ring in, then the body and finally the center. If a color won’t move, clear the one covering it first.
  5. Give buried colors a head start. colonyflow.games suggests starting the color with the most buried blocks early so it gets slot time before the easy colors run out.
  6. Tap “?” boxes early, not late. A hidden box is safest while two or three slots are still open. With one slot left, a wrong reveal ends the level.
  7. Use 2x speed freely. The ▶▶ x2 button in the top corner only speeds up the animation. It doesn’t change the result, per colonyflow.games.

Colony Flow boosters, coins and lives

The four boosters

Four booster buttons sit under the board in every store screenshot, each with a stock counter. ABI doesn’t name them anywhere we could find, so the names below come from colonyflow.games, which also runs its own browser version of the game. Its booster coin prices are far below what players report in the real app, so we’ve left those prices out.

Icon Name (fan guide) What it does (fan guide)
Tray with a green + Extra Slot Adds a slot, up to 7
Crossed arrows Shuffle Rearranges the boxes left in the stack
Grabber claw Pick Up Sends a box from a slot back to the stack
Blue round button Not confirmed colonyflow.games lists a fourth booster, Vacuum, that clears one color, but we couldn’t match it to this icon

The Extra Slot is the most useful one on a Super Hard level, because the whole game comes down to slot space. Use it while you still have a free slot, not after the board has jammed.

Coins are tight

This is the most common complaint in reviews on both stores. One App Store reviewer stuck on level 240 says most levels pay about 20 coins and the cheapest booster costs 1,200. A Google Play reviewer says boosters can only be bought in sets of three. Several players say some levels feel unbeatable without a booster. Others say every level can be cleared with patience. Free sources players mention are ad rewards for coins and lives, daily coins, and events.

Events right now

The App Store lists a Spooky Fest event from October 14 to November 9, 2026, with Halloween cards to collect and festive missions. Since August, updates have also added a Team feature, a Colony Pass, an Olympian League and limited-time bundles. More Halloween events are in our mobile game Halloween events roundup.

Ads and in-app purchases in Colony Flow!

Google Play says “Contains ads”, and the App Store lists advertising. One App Store reviewer says ads start around level 15 to 20, and others describe a banner plus ads after each finished level. One reviewer who bought the $7.99 No Ads item says the x2 speed button then started asking for an ad. Another reports an ad that kept opening the web browser mid-level.

The App Store lists these as the top in-app purchases (US prices). Apple shows only the top 10, so other items may exist:

Item Price
Coins Pack 1 $1.99
LIMIT BUNDLE $4.99
FAIL OFFER $5.99
No ADS $7.99
Coins Pack 2 $7.99
SMALL BUNDLE $9.99
Colony Pass $9.99
NO ADS BUNDLE $11.99
MEDIUM BUNDLE $19.99
ULTRA BUNDLE $39.99

The name “FAIL OFFER” suggests a deal shown after you lose a level, when buying is most tempting, so decide your budget before you play. Skip the “unlimited coins” mod APKs too. They aren’t from ABI, and modded game files are a common way to spread malware. The same “watch an ad or pay” trade-off shows up in our Magic Sort! hard levels guide and our Block Out! hard levels guide.

Colony Flow levels 214, 224, 547 and 740: walkthrough videos

We don’t publish tap-by-tap solutions we can’t check. A video lets you compare the board with your screen first, and that matters here: ABI has changed some levels in updates. Here’s what YouTube had for these levels when we checked on October 23. The pictures come from the video thumbnails.

Level Picture to look for Label Walkthroughs from
214 New version: a cat in a purple hat. Older version: an orange house Hard (per video titles) New version: ZCN Games (about 52,000 views), a channel called “Colony Flow” (about 41,000), GAMESOL, Crazy Games Walkthrough. Older house version: SB Gaming Channel, Crazy Games Walkthrough
224 New version: a pink cupcake. Older versions: green frogs, or a mushroom and rainbow Hard (per video titles) New version: Bamsi Gaming 2.0 (about 20,000 views), Xinis Game Guides, Dig Dig Gamer, ZCN Games. Older versions: Crazy Games Walkthrough, Nova’s Puzzle Den
547 An angry orange pufferfish Hard (per video titles) Crazy Games Walkthrough (about 38,000 views), Nova’s Puzzle Den, Puzzle Game Answer
740 A purple camera Hard or Super Hard (sources differ) Puzzle Game Answer (about 28,000 views), Gamerstein, Crazy Games Walkthrough

Three cautions. First, these are fan channels, and we couldn’t confirm that the channel called “Colony Flow” is run by ABI. Second, videos tagged “New Update” show the current version of 214 and 224. If your picture doesn’t match, try a video of the other version. Third, “colony flow level ###” pages on random websites are often auto-generated text with no real solution. Stick to videos where you can see the board.

FAQ

Who makes Colony Flow?

ABI Games (abigames.com.vn), which publishes it as ABI GLOBAL LTD. on iPhone and ABI GAMES PTE. LTD. on Android. It came out on the App Store on June 13, 2026.

Is Colony Flow the same game as Pixel Flow?

No. Pixel Flow! is a different pixel-art puzzle from Loom Games, a separate developer. Both are high on Apple’s US top grossing chart this week (#21 and #24).

How many levels does Colony Flow have?

ABI doesn’t publish a total, and updates keep adding “new levels”. YouTube walkthroughs already go past level 2,700.

Can you beat every Colony Flow level without boosters?

ABI doesn’t say. Some long-time players in reviews say every level is solvable with enough tries, while others say some Super Hard levels need a booster. The hidden “?” boxes are why the two groups disagree.

Does Colony Flow work offline?

Google Play tags it “Offline”; the App Store listing doesn’t say. For more games that work without Wi-Fi, see our best offline mobile games, and for what else is climbing the charts, our trending puzzle games on iPhone and Android.
