Block Out! hard levels come down to one thing: the order in which you send blocks out. Every colored block has to leave the board through the door of the same color, and on Hard and Super Hard levels one early move can wall off the lane another block needed, usually with the timer running low. This guide covers the rules, every obstacle Grand Games has added this year, what the boosters, coins and lives do, where the ads and in-app purchases are, and where to find a trustworthy video walkthrough for the level you’re stuck on (levels 69, 99, 224, 248 and 619 are the ones players search for most). Store details were checked at 09:10 UTC on October 22, 2026.

Quick answer
- Look before you touch anything. Find each door, then work out which block has to leave last and plan backward from there. Grand Games’ own Quick Play Guide says the same thing: plan ahead and manage your space.
- Clear the blocks that open lanes first. A block that’s in the way of three others is worth more than one that’s already next to its door.
- Hard Level and Super Hard labels appear under the timer. They mark the toughest boards, so expect to fail them a few times.
- Three boosters sit under the board: a clock, a rocket and a UFO. In Grand Games’ store art the clock costs 300 coins and the UFO 1,200 coins.
- Stuck on one level? Search YouTube for “Block Out level” plus the number. Gamer Fox, Block Out Walkthrough, MiniBoss and CherieGaming all post level-by-level videos. Check that the board in the video matches yours.
- Ads and purchases: both stores say the game contains ads. The App Store lists in-app purchases from $1.99 (Starter Bundle, 1,000 Coins) up to $49.99 (Deluxe Bundle).

Block Out! is the second Grand Games hit in a row. Mobidictum reported in April that Block Out! and Magic Sort! held the top two US iPhone download spots at the same time. For the rest of the genre, see our list of the best color sort games on iPhone and Android, where Block Out! is the pick for sliding-block puzzles.
How Block Out! works
The rules fit in three lines of the official App Store listing: slide the blocks to the matching doors, position them carefully to manage space, and move fast enough to beat the clock. Every level has a countdown timer at the top of the screen. Blocks come in Tetris-like shapes and leave the board through a door of their own color.
Two things make it harder than older block-jam games, according to a Friendly GameDev design breakdown from August. First, the levels are fixed rather than random, so the same board comes back each time you retry it. That means any progress you make on a hard level carries over to the next attempt. Second, bigger levels open up in sections as you clear them instead of showing everything at once.

Every Block Out! obstacle and what it does
The store description names moving elevators and block generators. Since May, Grand Games’ update notes on the App Store have introduced a new obstacle every few weeks. Here’s the list in the developer’s own words, with the update that added each one:
| Obstacle | What the developer says | Added |
|---|---|---|
| Block generator | Named in the store description. In the store art it shows a counter and the shape of the next block it will drop | At launch |
| Moving elevator | Named in the store description (“moving elevators”), with no further detail | At launch |
| Color Shutter | “A colorful new challenge” | May 25, 2026 (v573) |
| Hay Block | Clear blocks to uncover the hidden block beneath the hay | June 22 (v637) |
| Ivy | Clear blocks to trim the Ivy and reveal the doors | July 20 (v729) |
| Multilayer | Peel away each outer layer one by one to clear the block | August 17 (v840) |
| Color Grinder | Clear blocks of the same color as the Grinder to open the way | August 31 (v933) |
| Locked Shutter | Clear gem blocks that match the lock’s color to unlock it | September 28 (v1062) |
Grand Games’ screenshots also show keys and padlocks on blocks, ice panels with a number on them, and a dynamite block with a counter. The numbers suggest that these obstacles break after a set number of clears. The developer doesn’t describe them in text, so check the in-game tutorial the first time one appears.
What the obstacles have in common: most of them unlock only when you clear other blocks first, often of a specific color. On a level with Ivy, a Color Grinder or a Locked Shutter, your first moves should go toward the blocks that remove the obstacle, not toward whatever’s closest to a door.
How to beat Block Out! hard levels
We can’t play the levels ourselves, so these tips come from Grand Games’ own Quick Play Guide, the strategy notes on fan walkthrough sites such as blockout.cc and LevelSolve, and the walkthrough videos. They all agree on these points:
- Read the doors first. Before moving anything, note where every door is and which blocks sit between each block and its door. That tells you which blocks can’t leave until space opens.
- Find the last block and work backward. Both fan sites put it the same way: pick the piece that has to leave last, then plan the order back to your first move. The wrong block first locks the others in.
- Open lanes, don’t just score exits. LevelSolve sums up the game as “opening the right lane before the board locks itself.” When two moves are possible, take the one that frees more blocks behind it.
- Use dead space as parking. Corners and empty side pockets are where you park a block while you clear the path behind it.
- Deal with obstacles on purpose. If a lock, grinder or layered block is guarding a door, plan to clear the blocks it needs early. Leave the blocks it doesn’t need where they are.
- Retry with a plan. Levels don’t change between attempts, so a failed run still shows you the order. On the next try, play the opening moves quickly and save your thinking time for the part that beat you.
- Slow the video down. Gamer Fox notes in the channel’s walkthrough descriptions that “the time runs out quickly” and suggests watching at 0.5x speed. That’s the easiest way to copy a sequence from a video.
Players in App Store reviews say the difficulty rises noticeably past roughly level 100, and some say they had a pattern figured out but ran out of time by a few seconds. That’s where the boosters come in.

Block Out! boosters, coins and lives
The three boosters
Three booster buttons sit under the board on every level in Grand Games’ screenshots:
| Booster | What the store art shows | Price shown |
|---|---|---|
| Clock | An alarm clock, next to the level timer | 300 coins |
| Rocket | The “Activate Boosters” screenshot shows a rocket flying at a block marked with a target | Shown with a stock count instead of a price |
| UFO | A flying saucer, the most expensive of the three | 1,200 coins |
The store listing doesn’t spell out what each booster does, so check the description in the game before you spend coins. Friendly GameDev’s breakdown says boosters and level retries are both paid with coins, which you earn by finishing levels and events. One App Store reviewer warns that the button for spending coins to continue sits where it’s easy to tap by accident, so watch your thumb when a level ends.
Lives
Lives limit how many times you can retry. One App Store reviewer gives the cap as 5 lives. According to Friendly GameDev, the game’s main ad placement is an optional rewarded video that refills lives, and the premium pass raises your maximum number of lives. Another reviewer says you can watch an ad to keep playing a level for about 10 more seconds. If you’d rather not watch ads or pay, the free option is to wait for lives to refill and come back to the hard level later.
Events that reward careful play
Some events pay out only if you don’t fail. The Lily Leap event (added August 10) asks you to “beat levels without failing” to earn its grand prize, and the Streak Race (June 8) is built around streaks too. On those events, failing a Super Hard level costs more than a life, so it can be worth using a booster to save the run.
Ads and in-app purchases in Block Out!
The stores contradict each other here. The Google Play description promises an “Ad Free Experience: Play without interruptions or distractions.” But Google Play’s own label says “Contains ads,” and the App Store’s age-rating box says “Contains Advertising.” App Store reviewers disagree too: one says the game barely has any ads, while another reports ads every few levels after the first 20 or so. The description of an episode of the 2.5 Gamers industry podcast credits interstitial ads with an estimated 32-36% of Block Out!’s revenue. In short, expect some ads even though the Play description says otherwise.
The App Store lists these as the game’s top in-app purchases (US prices). Apple shows only the top 10, so other items may exist:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| 1000 Coins | $1.99 |
| Starter Bundle | $1.99 |
| Brick Bundle | $4.99 or $9.99 |
| 5000 Coins | $7.99 |
| Block Pass 10 | $9.99 |
| 10000 Coins | $14.99 |
| Premium Bundle | $19.99 |
| 25000 Coins | $29.99 |
| Deluxe Bundle | $49.99 |
No separate “No Ads” item appears in that top-10 list. One reviewer says a $9.99 purchase removed ads but also took away the option to watch an ad for extra time, leaving only coins to continue a level. Keep that trade-off in mind if you rely on ad continues. The same “watch an ad or pay” question comes up in our Meowdoku tips and Gossip Harbor energy guide.

Block Out! level 69, 99, 224, 248 and 619 walkthroughs
We don’t publish move-by-move solutions we can’t check. Video walkthroughs are the reliable way to see a level solved, because you can match the board to your screen. Here’s what YouTube had for the most-searched levels when we checked on October 22. The difficulty labels come from the video titles.
| Level | Label in video titles | Walkthroughs from |
|---|---|---|
| 69 | Super Hard (Gamer Fox) | Gamer Fox (most viewed, about 27,000 views), Block Out Walkthrough, MiniBoss, CherieGaming, Game Rush |
| 99 | Super Hard (Gamer Fox) | Usman’s Gaming (about 34,000 views), Block Out Walkthrough, Rock Gaming Channel, Gamer Fox, MiniBoss |
| 224 | Not labeled | Game Rush, CherieGaming, Rock Gaming Channel, MiniBoss, ZCN Games |
| 248 | Not labeled | Block Out Walkthrough (about 27,000 views), Gamer Fox, CherieGaming |
| 619 | “Hard” (Gamer Fox) or “Super Hard” (Level Tapped) | Block Out Walkthrough (about 29,000 views), Gamer Fox, CherieGaming, ZCN Games, Level Tapped (with an explained replay) |
Two cautions. First, these are fan channels, not Grand Games, and channels label level 619 differently. Updates can also change a level, so check that the blocks and doors match yours before you copy the moves. Second, avoid “block out level ###” pages on unrelated domains that show up in search. They’re auto-generated title lists with no real solution, and some walkthrough sites give generic steps (“move the top block into an empty column”) that don’t describe this game at all.
FAQ
Is Block Out! on Android?
Yes. It’s on Google Play from Grand Games A.Ş. (package com.grandgames.catblockjam), with a September 8, 2026 release date and 1M+ downloads. Earlier coverage from the summer says the game was iOS-only, so that’s now out of date.
Can you play Block Out! offline?
Yes. The App Store description says “no wi-fi required,” and Google Play shows an Offline tag. Events and rewarded ads will likely need a connection. More picks in our best offline mobile games list.
How many levels does Block Out! have?
Grand Games doesn’t publish a total. Almost every update adds “brand-new levels,” and walkthroughs for level 999 were already on YouTube by mid-October.
Why does Block Out! say Hard Level or Super Hard?
The label appears under the timer on tougher levels. Friendly GameDev’s analysis says it’s there to set expectations before you start. Those are the levels where it pays to plan the whole order before your first move.
