15 free Sims 4 mods for realistic gameplay, each checked against patch 1.129 on its creator’s page: MCCC, SNBank, bills, health, autonomy, plus install steps.

The best Sims 4 mods for realistic gameplay right now are MC Command Center for story progression, tyjokr’s Deeper Social Autonomy and Interests for believable behavior, SimRealist’s SNBank, SNB – Bills and Private Practice for money and health, plus a set of small LittleMsSam fixes for daily routines. All 15 picks below are free, family-friendly, and backed for the current patch 1.129 (the October 27, 2026 update, PC 1.129.39.1030) by the creator’s own page or the mod’s CurseForge listing, checked November 3, 2026.

Every date and compatibility note in this guide comes from that mod’s CurseForge page or its creator’s site, read on November 3. Nothing is from memory, and EA has not posted a November update as of 12:20 UTC that day.

A “tagged 1.129.39” mod is one whose creator set the current game version on CurseForge. It isn’t a written test report, so read the creator’s latest comments if something misbehaves. For the community-wide list of what broke and what was fixed after this patch, see our Sims 4 broken mods list for patch 1.129.

Story progression: MC Command Center

1. MC Command Center (Deaderpool)

Deaderpool describes MCCC’s goal as adding the “missing story progression” to The Sims 4 and letting you fine-tune the game to your play style. Its population, pregnancy and career modules keep NPC households growing and changing while you play elsewhere. Version 2026.6.0 is the current download. The creator’s downloads page says it was tested with all packs up to Royalty & Legacy and the October 27, 2026 patch. Modules are optional, so you can remove the ones you don’t want. For a family-friendly setup, skip the separate MC Woohoo download. You don’t need it for the rest of MCCC. Our MCCC update guide covers safe upgrades and Last Exception fixes.

Mods that make Sims act like people

2. Deeper Social Autonomy (tyjokr)

This one rewrites the autonomy tests for Friendly, Funny, Mean, Mischief and Romance interactions so that mood, traits, preferences and relationship strength decide what a Sim does. In the creator’s examples, Happy, Playful or Confident Sims are more sociable, while Angry, Sad or Stressed Sims hold back. It draws on every pack you own but needs none of them. It requires Lot 51 Core Library (v1.43.1, October 19, 2026).

3. Social Variety (tyjokr)

Social Variety adds autonomy to more than 300 hand-picked social interactions and puts cooldowns on the ones Sims spam. It also blocks interactions that make no sense in context. It comes as five modules you can install separately, and the creator says it doesn’t overwrite any game files, so it shouldn’t conflict with other mods. It pairs well with Deeper Social Autonomy and also needs Lot 51 Core Library.

4. Interests (tyjokr)

This brings back the Sims 2 idea of interests: 18 topics, such as Animals, Arts & Culture, Civics and Food, that grow and fade with a Sim’s activities, skills and career. Static likes and dislikes never change; these do. Young adults and older can hold up to three interests and three disinterests. You can view and edit the values with shift-click “Stats” under testingcheats, or through MCCC. It conflicts with Zerbu’s Unlimited Likes and Dislikes. If you already use Zerbu’s Custom Preferences Mod, delete the included file named tyjokr_CustomPreferences_DeleteIfUsingZerbu.

5. Phone Call Overhaul (lotharihoe)

You can set extra conditions for incoming calls, such as relationship requirements, and block calls when a Sim’s needs are too low. All the settings sit on any mailbox: shift-click it with testingcheats on. The creator notes it doesn’t change custom calls added by other mods.

6. Social Activities (LittleMsSam)

This adds a Social Activities menu to the phone. You can send Sims to visit friends, family or acquaintances (pets allowed), go on a date, or head to city venues. A visit takes 120-180 minutes and fills Fun and Social while building friendship. Kids with unfinished homework do it with their friends. It requires XML Injector.

Money, bills and health: the SimRealist set

SimRealist posted a status note for the October 27 update saying testing is complete and its mods are compatible with PC 1.129.39.1030 and Mac 1.129.39.1230. The itch.io pages for SNBank, SNB – Bills and Private Practice repeat that line. The public versions are free on CurseForge, and itch.io lists them as “name your own price”.

7. SNBank (SimRealist)

SNBank aims to build a full banking system in the game, so storylines can turn on savings and debt the way real ones do. The creator lists one known conflict: direct deposit and debit cards don’t work with LittleMsSam’s Scarlet Allowance mod, so pick one of the two.

8. SNB – Bills (SimRealist)

This replaces EA’s single bill with separate Water & Sewer, Electricity, Trash, Cable, Internet, Cellphone and Property Tax bills. Each unpaid bill has its own consequence. It also adds child support, alimony and a basic welfare system. It started as a standalone add-on, so you don’t need SNBank, though the two work together.

9. Private Practice (SimRealist)

Private Practice reworks the health system around a medical clinic. NPCs catch illnesses and build herd immunity, and allergies depend on the world you live in. Your household can be diagnosed and get medication. Check-ups are free, and sick visits cost 80% less, if one household member has a standard career. It requires the Get to Work pack.

10. FlowFit (SimRealist)

FlowFit expands exercise at home and at the gym with an elliptical, a rower, a climber and a new treadmill. The creator says a FlowFit Cycle is coming next.

School and study

11. SimU: Academic Life (midnitetech)

This is a base-game online degree system built from scratch: 13 degree programs with six modules each, custom coursework, no deadlines, honors outcomes, study groups and career boosts. It also includes a custom Academic skill and a way to learn any skill online. It requires the creator’s midnitetech_modlibrary, updated November 2, 2026 and tagged 1.129.39. The creator says to download the newest library whenever a new version comes out.

12. Better Autonomous Homework (LittleMsSam)

A, B and C students now do their homework on their own, though the creator suggests you still check in the evening. D and E students still need to be told. Optional add-ons make homework faster at higher grade levels, have Sims put homework in their inventory instead of leaving it lying around, and limit NPC homework to home. It’s compatible with Scarlet’s Homework Overhaul and needs XML Injector.

Daily routines

13. Sleep All Night (LittleMsSam)

Sims stop waking up just because their Energy is full. They still wake for low needs, school (around 6:30 a.m.) and work, and unemployed Sims get up around 8 a.m. It needs XML Injector.

14. Sleep In (LittleMsSam)

Children and teens normally get up at 6:00 a.m. even on weekends. With this mod they sleep in on weekends, school holidays and free days, and still get up around 6:00 a.m. on school days. An optional add-on lets unemployed and self-employed Sims sleep in too. It has no dependencies.

15. Heat Up Leftovers (LittleMsSam)

This adds “Heat Up Leftovers & Eat” to fridges and food whenever a microwave is on the lot. Sims grab a serving, microwave it, then eat, and get a small buff. Sims can use it on their own, but the creator says they won’t always pick it. It needs XML Injector.

How to install Sims 4 mods on PC and Mac

  1. Turn mods on. In The Sims 4, open Options, then Game Options, then Other. Tick Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed, click Apply Changes, and restart the game (CurseForge install guide).
  2. Find the Mods folder. Windows: C:Users[user]DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 4Mods. Mac: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/. Lots and households go in the Tray folder instead.
  3. Unzip everything. The Mods folder takes .package and .ts4script files. Put both files from a mod’s zip in Mods.
  4. Keep scripts no more than one folder deep. Deaderpool’s installation page says the game only looks one level deep for script mods: ModsMCCC works, ModsScript ModsMCCC does not. The XML Injector page says to put its files straight into Mods, not a subfolder.
  5. Install the libraries once. XML Injector (v4.2) for the LittleMsSam picks, Lot 51 Core Library for Deeper Social Autonomy and Social Variety, and midnitetech_modlibrary for SimU. Keep only one copy of each.
  6. Update cleanly. Delete the old version’s files before adding the new ones. For MCCC, keep your mc_settings.cfg so your settings carry over.
  7. If mods don’t show up and you use OneDrive, CurseForge’s troubleshooting page suggests quitting OneDrive and restarting the game.

Popular mods we left out

  • Adult and mature mods (for example WickedWhims, WonderfulWhims and Basemental) aren’t on this list, which sticks to family-friendly picks.
  • Kuttoe’s Home Regions is popular because it keeps townies in their own world, but its latest file (October 8) is tagged 1.128.90 and we found no 1.129 note on its page. Check the page before you install it.
  • Patreon early-access builds aren’t free. Several creators here, including tyjokr and kuttoe, run Patreons, but everything in this list has a free public download.
  • DLC unlockers and piracy tools are never covered here. For legit ways to change your game, see our Sims 4 cheats list.

FAQ

Do these mods work on console?

No. These mods go in the Mods folder of the PC or Mac version, and the console versions have no Mods folder or script mod setting. Console players can use EA’s built-in cheats and the official Marketplace content instead.

Are these Sims 4 mods free?

Yes. All 15 have a free public download on CurseForge. SimRealist’s itch.io pages let you pay what you want, including nothing.

Which mods need expansion packs?

Only Private Practice, which needs Get to Work. The other 14 work with the base game.

What should I do after the next Sims 4 update?

Turn off “Enable Custom Content and Mods” until your mods are confirmed. Check each creator’s page for a new version or compatibility note before turning them back on. Our October 2026 update notes show what EA changed in patch 1.129.
