Baldur’s Gate 3 console commands don’t exist in the vanilla game. There is no tilde key, no cheat box and no debug menu for players on PC, PS5, Xbox, Mac or Steam Deck, and none of Larian’s patch notes from launch to Hotfix #36 (March 26, 2026) added one. What Larian does support are cheat-like options built into the game: Custom Mode sliders for healing, gold prices and difficulty, full respecs at Withers, the Magic Mirror, and since Patch 7 an official in-game Mod Manager that has a “Cheats” filter. Larian says mods turn achievements off, though. This guide covers each option, what it does, and the catch. Checked November 4, 2026 UTC.

Quick answer
- Console commands: none in the vanilla game, on any platform. Lists of “BG3 console commands” online come from third-party tools, not from Larian.
- Closest thing to a cheat menu: Custom Mode. It has options for a full heal on short rests, no death saving throws, long rests at half the camp supplies, and a trade price modifier as low as 1x.
- Switching mid-game: since Patch 6 you can move a running save from Explorer, Balanced or Tactician to Custom Mode. Honour Mode saves can’t switch.
- Change class, stats or feats: talk to Withers at camp. bg3.wiki puts the respec cost at 100 gold per character.
- Change your look: use the Magic Mirror at camp (custom characters and the Dark Urge only).
- Items, gold, level 20: the only routes are mods. The official Mod Manager (Patch 7+) lets you filter by a “Cheats” category on PC, PS5, Xbox and Mac.
- Achievements: Larian states that “achievements are automatically disabled when you’re using mods”.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have console commands?
No. Larian never shipped a player console. Larian’s Steam news feed for Baldur’s Gate 3, from Patch 1 through Patch 8 and the 2025-2026 hotfixes, never mentions console commands or a cheat menu. The one mention of “debugging” is in the Patch 7 notes, and it’s about the modding Toolkit: mod authors can reload their own Osiris scripts, handle build errors, “and also carry out basic debugging”. That’s a tool for making mods, not a command line inside the game.
Larian’s patch notes do show that cheat tools exist outside the game, and that they can cause problems. Hotfix #4 (August 2023) let “players with modded or cheated savegames with characters at Level 13 or above” travel to the House of Hope. Hotfix #17 (January 2024) “guarded against crashes caused when certain character resources (Actions, Bonus Actions, Superiority Dice, etc.) were added and later removed by a mod or cheat engine”. In other words, editing a save from outside the game can crash it.
The command lists you see on other sites come from the Script Extender, a third-party PC tool made by the modder Norbyte. It’s not made, shipped or supported by Larian. Larian thanked Norbyte in the Patch 7 notes and said its testing with mod authors “should mean that mods that require Script Extender will continue to work”. But Script Extender mods count as third-party mods, so they can stop working after game updates and can affect your saves, and like all mods they switch achievements off. They don’t run on consoles at all. We don’t cover installing it. This guide sticks to what Larian supports.
Baldur’s Gate 3 console commands vs official cheats: what’s built in

How to turn on Custom Mode in Baldur’s Gate 3
Larian added Custom Mode in Patch 5 (November 30, 2023) as a mode “that allows you to pick and choose the type of experience best for you”. It’s the closest thing BG3 has to a cheat menu, and the settings are official, so they don’t count as mods.
- New game: choose Custom when the game asks you to pick a difficulty, then set each option.
- Existing save: open the pause menu, pick Difficulty and switch to Custom. The Patch 6 notes say you can switch from a set difficulty “except when already playing Honour Mode”. According to bg3.wiki, you can’t switch back to Explorer, Balanced or Tactician afterwards, and Custom starts with the values of your previous difficulty.
- Multiplayer: since Patch 6 the host can set up Custom options in the lobby while friends join.
- After an Honour Mode death: Larian lets you continue in Custom Mode. That ends Honour Mode for the save.
Some settings are locked once the campaign starts. bg3.wiki lists the ruleset (Standard or Honour), the Honour-style single save, and multiclassing. Everything below can be changed at any time.
| Custom Mode setting | Balanced value | Easiest value |
|---|---|---|
| Enemy aggression | Balanced | Explorer (“Enemies will not be as ruthless in combat”) |
| Character power | Balanced | Explorer (friendly characters stronger and harder to kill) |
| Enemy loadouts | Balanced | Explorer (basic spells and items only) |
| Proficiency bonus | 0 (+2 at level 1) | Up to +4 (+6 at level 1), but it applies to enemies too |
| Enemy critical hits | On | Off |
| No death saving throws | Off | On |
| Camp cost multiplier | 1x (40 supplies) | 0.5x (20 supplies) |
| Short rest full heal | Off | On |
| Trade price modifier | 2.5x | 1x |
| Preview dialogue check difficulty | Off | On (see how hard a check is before you pick it) |
The values come from bg3.wiki’s Custom Mode table. For comparison, Tactician uses a 3x trade price and 80 camp supplies per long rest. Explorer gives a 20% merchant discount and turns off multiclassing.

How to respec in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Withers)
Respeccing is official and works on everyone in your party. Larian’s pre-launch Community Update #22 says you can respec “not only your chosen protagonist’s class but also that of your playable companions and pre-authored Origin characters”. It also warns that some Origin stories are tied to the character’s class. A non-cleric Shadowheart or a Wyll without his warlock pact will change the dialogue and story options you get with them.
- Where: Withers, the robed skeleton who joins your camp in Act 1 (you can free him in the Dank Crypt).
- Cost: 100 gold per respec, according to bg3.wiki. The character goes back to level 1 and re-levels with new choices of class, subclass, ability scores, skills, spells and feats.
- What stays the same: race, gender, background, origin and appearance. Paladins who broke their oath have to restore it with the Oathbreaker Knight first. Withers stops offering respecs at the final battle in the High Hall.
Change your appearance: the Magic Mirror
Patch 3 (September 2023) added the Magic Mirror to your camp. Larian says it “allows you to change up your appearance whenever you’d like, however many times you’d like”. Origin characters, hirelings and full illithids can’t use it, and changes that come from story choices stay. bg3.wiki adds that the mirror can’t change race, subrace or body type.
How to get gold and items without console commands
There’s no “add item” command in vanilla BG3. You have two options:
- Change trader prices: set the Trade Price Modifier to 1x in Custom Mode. Gear then sells for its full value and costs no more than its value, which makes every trader a better source of gold.
- Use a supported mod: the Mod Manager has a Cheats category (see the next section). Larian has featured mods such as Weightless Gold and Weightless Consumables. Remember that mods turn achievements off.

How to use the official BG3 Mod Manager (PC, PS5, Xbox, Mac)
Patch 7 added Larian’s in-game Mod Manager and the free Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit. It came to PC on September 5, 2024 and to consoles and Mac on October 1, 2024. Mods made with the Toolkit are hosted on mod.io. By December 2025, Larian counted 10,000 mods uploaded and more than 350 million downloads. How it works, from Larian’s “Playing With Mods” guide:
- Open the Mod Manager from the main menu.
- On the Browse tab, use the filters. In Larian’s Patch 7 screenshots, the Type filter includes Cheats, Classes, Equipment, Quality of Life, Spells and more.
- Read the mod’s description. Some mods need a second mod (a “dependency”, which downloads automatically) or need you to change a setting.
- Press Download.
- On the Installed tab, tick or untick the box next to a mod to enable or disable it. Larian warns that “disabling some mods might affect your existing saves”.
When you load a modded save or join a multiplayer game, the Verification Window appears so your mods match. It offers to Download, Enable, Update or Downgrade mods, and it lists any third-party mods that the in-game browser doesn’t have.
Mods on PS5, Xbox and Mac
- Only Toolkit mods that pass Larian’s internal testing are released for consoles and Mac. Many PC mods aren’t available there.
- The Patch 8 notes set a limit of 100 mods on consoles and say: “Third-party mods cannot be used on consoles.” PC players hosting cross-play games can filter for mods tagged “Available on Console & Mac”.
- A PC cross-save that uses mods not approved for consoles can’t be loaded on a console.
- On the Steam Deck native build (Hotfix #34, September 2025), mods you subscribed to come across automatically if your Larian account is linked to mod.io.
To get to level 13-20, Larian has highlighted UnlockLevelCurve by Dustbag, available on PC, Mac and consoles. For parties larger than four, it featured Adjustable Party Limit by PixellBytes, which allows up to 15 other party members. Both count as mods, so achievements are off while they’re enabled.
Do cheats or mods disable achievements in BG3?
Mods do. Larian’s guide says it plainly: “Achievements are automatically disabled when you’re using mods, so keep this in mind if you’re still planning on completing your Baldur’s Gate 3 achievements!” Larian makes no exception for mods from its own Mod Manager.
Larian hasn’t published a statement on whether Custom Mode itself affects achievements, so we won’t promise either way. Two difficulty rules are known from bg3.wiki’s achievement list. The Critical Hit achievement needs a Tactician completion, and Foehammer needs an Honour Mode completion. Explorer turns off multiclassing, which makes the Jack-of-all-Trades achievement impossible. If achievements matter to you, keep a separate save with no mods.
Third-party mods: what Larian’s support says
Larian’s Mod Issues support page defines third-party mods as “mods created using a program other than our official Toolkit”. You can still use them on PC, but Larian can’t fix them, and it recommends removing them after major updates if the game won’t start. Larian’s cleanup steps:
- Delete the Mods and Public folders in the game’s
...Baldurs Gate 3Datainstall folder, if they exist. - Delete
modsettings.lsxin your profile folder, unless you’re using a new profile for the current patch. - Check
%LocalAppData%Larian StudiosBaldur's Gate 3Modstoo. Larian notes that uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesn’t remove all mod files.

FAQ
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have console commands on PS5 or Xbox?
No. No version of BG3 has a console. On PS5 and Xbox, the only extras are Custom Mode, Withers and the Magic Mirror, plus Larian-approved mods from the in-game Mod Manager (up to 100 on consoles).
How do I open the console in BG3?
You can’t. There’s no key for it. The “open console” instructions you’ll find online are for the third-party Script Extender on PC, which Larian doesn’t support and which disables achievements like any other mod.
How do I add items in Baldur’s Gate 3?
There’s no add-item command. Without mods, lower the Trade Price Modifier in Custom Mode and buy from traders. With mods, look in the Mod Manager’s Cheats category. Achievements turn off while mods are active.
